History / Battle of Warsaw movie in production [24]

Location shooting has started 40 km from Warsaw on a feature film about the 1920 Polish-Soviet War, where Poland's newly independent forces won a famous victory over Trotsky's Red Army.

The production, being filmed with 3D technology, is being directed by Poland's veteran filmmaker, 78 year-old Jerzy Hoffman, who stresses that the defeat of the Bolsheviks - the so-called 'Miracle of the Vistula' - was the first genuine Polish military victory since the middle of the 17th century. The first scenes, shot the Modlin stronghold (Twierdza Modlin) this week, depict the preparations for repelling the Soviet invaders.

I really hope they will make a good movie out of it, and not a ****** low budget movie.

News / WHY DOES POLAND BUY GAS FROM RUSSIA? [105]

"Russia warned Poland" Could end up with no gas in October.

Poland agreed with Russia to buy 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year through 2037, but the final agreement has not been signed. Earlier a representative of the Russian Economy Ministry warned Poland that if the country did not sign the agreement soon, it could end up with no gas in October.

Seems like the russians want Poland to sign the deal before Poland finds some shale gas.

News / Candidates for presidency in Poland: Situation in Belarus is a real challenge [7]

Yesterday evening TV debate took place in Poland. Presidential candidates Jaroslaw Kaczynski and Bronislaw Komorowski met face-to-face for the first time in this election campaign. They are the candidates who reached the second round. Representatives of the election headquarters of the both candidates have agreed upon the form of the debates, in accordance with which candidates were asked by journalists. Questions touched upon the three spheres: social, economic and foreign policy issues.

The former Prime Minister of Poland stated: "I know that to talk with the regimes like Lukashenka's regime, is worthwhile only when argument of pressure and all kinds of incentives are also present. Law and Order Party had been carrying out the policy exactly like that. And unofficially, totally unofficially, we carried out negotiations with some representatives of this regime".

Kaczynski underlined that the Polish authorities must defend Poles abroad, and at the moment exactly the Poles in Belarus need as wide defense as possible, and any president must do that.

And finally Jaroslaw Kaczynski stated: "This is the issue which is also to be discussed with Moscow, and when President Medvedev would visit us, and I would be a president, I will raise this question certainly. Though Belarus is a separate state, this question could be discussed".

Bronislaw Komorowski immediately responded to the concluding words of his opponent. "It is an unprecedented idea to talk with Moscow about Belarus. I totally disagree with that. It contradicts Polish interests completely, and in general it is not accepted in the international policy. It is the same thing as if Belarusians would plan to talk about Poland's problems with Moscow or Berlin," Komorowski stated.

He stressed that Belarus' problem is a real challenge which the West cannot meet too. "We must primarily influence on the policy of Europe, to speak in a louder voice in the negotiations with Lukashenka," believes the candidate for presidency of the currently leading party of Poland.

Who had the best arguments?

And what do you think should be done about the oppressed Poles in Belarus?

Life / EXPATS in POLAND: 10 things you miss / don't miss about home . . . [138]

Thread attached on merging:
Foreigner in Poland

How does it feel to be a foreigner in Poland?

Was it like you expected? or maybe worser/better?

What do you miss the most from your own country?

Do you get along with the polish people in general?

Is it a huge cultural difference between your countries?

Have you been learning polish? Was it easy/hard?

If you could bring back 10 polish things to your own country, what would it be?
(It could be food/way of life/mentality/tradition etc etc.. )

If you could bring 10 things to Poland from your country what would it be?
(It could be food/way of life/mentality/tradition etc etc.. )

I would really like to know how it is to be a foreigner in Poland.

But please be honest, and don't worry we don't got KGB in Poland :)

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

It is not bad idea to give Kaliningrad back to Germany, but in the same time!

Im serious now. iv'e been seeing you posting this russian nonsense for quite some time now.

And my conclusion is this. That you are paid by the Russian Kgb to spread russian Propaganda over the internet, and you get a bonus for every poor soul you succeed to brainwash.

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Yeah well, Danzig was to 95 percent German at the last census before the war...you can't get much more Germany than that.

And kaliningrad is 99% russian today so that means that it's a russian city with no historical connections to Germany right?

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Yes David but these guys were germinised and the crushing majority of Wrocławs population was German, western part of Silesia stopped being polish in 13 century, central and eastern parts remained Polish throught history but not Wrocław.

German??????? Germany didn't exist at that time.

Silesia was a duchy that was very closely connected with Poland by BLOOD.

Wrocławs population was German

Yah well in that case Gdansk should be considered german also right? same with Riga...

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Wrocław back, if Poland re-aquires Lwów the question of Wrocław will rise the moment some Steinbach monkey comes to prominence in Germany.

Ever heard about the silesian piasts? Wroclaw and the whole Silesia was ruled under the Silesian branch of the polish piasts untill the end of the 1700'th century.

Lets assume we get Lwów back what then? Do you kick the Ukrainians out?

No :) We let them work for us, like they'e been doing for centuries.

Also David while Ukrainians are poor they're not cavemen, for all their faults they're our neighbours i'm not pleased when Westerners sh*t on Poland because they've got more moola, lets not do it to others eh?

Neighbours or not. They have a country that they got no historical rights too.

Rich or poor, i don't care.

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

They like strong leadership, that much is certain. I think the Russian character also prefers stability over freedom - look at the chaotic instability of the Polish State versus the somewhat stable Russian State. And to be fair - a strong centre is what keeps Russia together - after all, "Russia" is really made up of so many different components and nationalities.

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Why? Poland was given access to the West very quickly and wasn't so badly neglected as the outposts of the USSR were. If you knew your history, you'd understand this ;)

can you explain me this?

How come that in over 1000 years the russian people have been opressed by their own leaders, and haven't lifted a finger about it. While the Polish people have been free, and when their freedoom was taken away they fought to regain it?

I mean are the russians dumb? how hard is it to make a uprising? just look at the poles, when something ain't right they revolt.

What im trying to say is that, the russians and the people under their influence lives in poverty because of the lifestyle they been having for the last 1000 years.

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Is it possible "politically" to give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany?

If Poland and germany would have to pay for it, how much would those areas cost?

If not money, what would Russia and Ukraine want in return for Lwow and kaliningrad?
