News / Poland one step closer to visa waiver by US Senate [59]

All depends on whether one beliefs official statistics. According to USA numbers Poland simply didn't exceed the limit for the first number. So nothing to do with diplomacy.

Another thing is that officials could have been told to go easier on the visa refusals

Food / Vodka for a Polish Wedding [40]

Well, when I do drink czysta I become entertainment for my friends- apparently I make a very funny face after I drink the shot. I must say that while I generally prefer other alcohols, wòdka has its good points. 'Długie Polaków nocne rozmowy' are done best with clear wòdka.

Hmmm, few years ago Krupnik seemed to be in fashion and not too expensive.

UK, Ireland / Do people still get married for passports, visas etc to stay in the UK? [7]

Well, if a couple is commited etc they might consider speeding things up a bit or even going for the formalities at all (earlier it didn't make much difference). However from what I know it doesn't make much difference in the status. All those laws about how much one has to have in a bank to bring non EU spouse etc- if the same will apply to EU citozens than I don't think it will become a thing- easier to relay on the fact that one already has a life here, job, place in community etc.

Btw- are you talking about new arrivals or the people who are already here?

Life / Financial incentives to increase fertility in Poland [9]

the most important factor here is that it is agrarian, poorly educated and patriarchal societies that reproduce well.

Of course that's the trend. As soon as women know how to prevent pregnancy and have the means to do it thay usually start to opt for less kids.

However I do agree with Maf that rather than simply giving money the better option is childcare, job security, housing conditions and more equal share in household chores ( although the last one is of course outside of the system and between the partners). Money are good but only as a safety net so the parents know they won't starve if something happens

Law / Preventive police phone call in Poland [9]

It's not preventive police but the department of prevention (Simple Bobbies). They might have contacted you for verious resons. Some more serious than others

Life / Is it OK in Poland to walk a dog in a graveyard? [11]

Well, it won't be something common... It's a place of grief, mourning and respect for the dead. Somehow dogs peeing and pooping everywhere don't match that image

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

Where I live is irrelevant

It does when you talk about taxes and benefits. In Poland she wouldn't get the same things as a women raising her kids with a husband. You didn't pay a penny to the system so what women do in any of those countries don't affect your precious money.

And being in a relationship with a muslim guy doesn't mean one qualifies to the group you mentioned
- at first we talked only about relationships- doesn't mean there will be kids
- even if he does have a kid from that relationship it's a far cry from being single with a bunch of kids from different fathers.

The thing that you don't seem to get is that women are not anymore the property of a man and it's her choice what she does even if not always the best choice ( because of course man never make bad decissions ).

No right to criticise a person's choices (probably what he mean's be being offended)

Well I have no intentions of trying to figure out what he meant and instead responded to what he actually said.

And I am indifferent to the state of that mixed relationship to the point a law is broken. The same goes for couples of the same background. What I'm tired of is men trating women as the property of the nation and supposing they can have any right to limit their choices and feel betrayed when they cannot score over a 'stranger'

But it's not your buisness- the mother may be offended that the father of her child doesn't treat her culture equally but you? You are a stranger that has absolutely no right to be offended by who an adult chooses as their partner.

And the couples with muslim father that I know have names from the cultures the kids are being raised in so I don't find confirmation of your words in my experience

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

But the legal process is different

Process is different at first but not their legal responsibilities. Both have to support their kid.
