News / Pokłosie - should the film have received funding from Polish state coffers? [37]

You are sly but it is old news. Ukrainian trait I would say.

there is nothing sly about paying taxes in Poland Irons. Look the meaning of the word up again and it may pointing to you;).

Back on topic: it seems to be money well spent, since the movie has restarted a discussion about how some Poles have a problem with remembering the darker parts of themselves.

I would rather see that money spend on some movie about Wolyn massacre

why not, I don't have a problem with that. After all I am paying taxes in Poland and you don't, do you?

tell me aphro are Ukies still see themselves as victims?)

you have to ask the Ukies, whoever they are. I don't claim to speak on behalf of all Ukrainians:D.

Yep, and as a Polish tax-payer, I'm happy that some of the money I pay went on this film.

Me too:D

Life / Age chauvinism in Poland regarding young people [17]

Somehow I feel that people in other countries are more prone to teach respect by giving respect and support to their children and young people in general.

sounds true to me and a good observation on your part, but it is not limited to young people only. Generally mutual respect is on the low side in Poland in my opinion in comparison to other countries. Simple luck of manners doesn't help either.

You should change the thread subject because it doesn't make sense as it is!
Kids know ***** and that is a general true! The qestion you should ask - are they wise up when they get older? A: Some do and some don't!

here is one example, although Irons does not reside in Poland.

Sweetie, here is my advice, say things in a clear and simple way that make sense, and older people will respect that.

another proof of such behaviour, yet both of the posters are low on respect in general:D. Not sure what the reason is, but I suspect the good old self esteem has something to do with it.

Should the Polish tax payer fund a film project of this type, which goes over the top in blackening Poland's international image?

yes, I rather have the money spend on such film, then on some useless stuff the Polish administration spends it on. There is a LOT of public money wasted as you well know. I think it is time the uncover the truth about some parts of Polish history, especially the parts, which are shameful. This film is part of that process, not about all Poles.

UK, Ireland / Canada targets UK Poles to fill labour shortage [19]

but welfare income in Canada is below the poverty line- so you don't really get to do much but exist.

very true, not room to abuse the system really.

Life / Abrupt Poles explained ! [51]

Maybe some Poles are just rude and it comes out in the intonation;).

Simple lack of manners shows in the intonation.

Po polsku / Czy ktoś pamięta ORMO? [22]

Jezeli fakt nadania mu rangi wiceministra w rządzie PiS świadczy o czymkolwiek - to chyba tylko o tym, ze PiS nie jest aż tak bardzo antyczerwony jak to z perspektywy USA może się wydawać.

no:D.

Life / Abrupt Poles explained ! [51]

This is less about Polish directness and more about British waffling, which is famous around Europe. This guide is based on an observation originally made by the Dutch contingency within the corridors of the European Union in Brussels:

Can you post a link to that, please?

UK, Ireland / Canada targets UK Poles to fill labour shortage [19]

That chap Kenney seems like a bit of a snake.

not difficult to foresee.

Had to come home after paying a fortune in visa fees, accommodation, flights and what not. They were on the radio crying about it a few weeks ago.

that is my point. The Canadian Immigration still paints the country as if it was an easy buck, but it never has been and it never will. unfortunately one cannot see it from across the pond;D. The should update their poaching tactics;).

It is common to bring the the foreign doctors to Canada and leave them alone driving taxis, even though they were allowed in because of their education- so Canadians like their taxi drivers well educated I presume;). On the serious note, I think that many people have been cheated, because of the Canadian propaganda. Shame.

UK, Ireland / Canada targets UK Poles to fill labour shortage [19]

better economy

probably true

better social mobility

How does one measure that? I really doubt it.

a lower cost of living than the UK

that is probably true, BUT it it way further then the UK.

hopes that Polish migrants from Britain will be easier to integrate than people coming directly from Poland because they already speak English

so Canada will save on schooling those immigrants. Smart.

We do have a shortage of labour ...

good point, yet the Canadian government wants immigrants to sustain the growth of population as well. Who is going to pay your retirement when you grow old, eh? Not the people on welfare. ;)

The UK is way more interesting then Canada:D.. Going to Canada would be like immigrating to the UK from 50- 100 years ago to a degree;)

Work / Strange Polish school inspection regime [3]

Not unimportant matters obviously, but not as important as: Did the students learn anything in the lesson, and if so what?

I understand what you are talking about. At the private school last year ( I don't work there any more) I was inspected by a similar person, who happened to be a member of the stuff (metodyk). Such methods are outdated and they contribute nothing to improving the learning process. From what I understand, such inspectors are there to make sure the teacher has a whip. I am not fond of such methods, so I am no longer working there. The funniest comment I heard was: is that how you pronounce that word in Canada? lol I don't have to mention that she was not interested if students learnt anything.

Oh,besides. It is a good job post;).

News / Kudos to RCC for turning Poland into a laughingstock... again. [38]

On another note, a quick question to those who live in Poland.

pretty much. I read comments from Poles to that article yesterday and they're pretty much agreeing with you, so not to worry. Poles are not that naive.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

true. I should complain more often- Poles love it;D

Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by ******** :)

I know that line:D.

thanks for that. The summer is over and I will be ****** off until spring;D.

Fortunately there is quite a lot of sunshine this fall. No rain where I am.

Love / Why don't Polish women treat education seriously for themselves? [130]

I have been interested in a long time in testosterone and estrogen.

It is all true. I prefer working with men as well in the office too. Always have and always will. It is a generalization, but Kondzior has some really good points. I also agree on the hormone thingy. It is TRUE. I have made observations over the years. You can all shoot me now, but I don't care. Hard facts against wishful thinking and PC:D.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

What are they negative about?

as pip said: people in general. I should not get into details, but I will. I am running to households within a 150 km distance. Mine and my father's. I can see how people are waiting for me to give in. A couple of winters ago (the winter was heavy) I was the first one at my father's town to shovel the snow:). On top of that I prepared the whole x-mas. Tip top- it was fun and. One of the neighbours said: wow, you can you everything, instead of asking me if I need help. It was said not in admiration, but in envy. Yes, I can do everything. Most people can and I don't see it as a big deal. The other day (my father lives in the building with a few apartments) another neighbours asked me to clean the stairs, although I don't live there. So according to her I have to travel 150 km to clean the stairs she uses the most. This is just an example. I would not clean the stairs, because they have a co-op and there is more then enough money to hire a cleaner. I also don't feel like doing it and she is on my black list now:D.

People in Poland don't like mighty people in general. I see a problem and I find a solution. I don't like wasting my time on things.

So now I make jams and that probably pisses them off lol. Apart from that I made my own web page and I am running 3 blogs on various interests. I got rid of an abusive guy in my building who was mistreating his dog and possibly his partner, although it took me 3 months. Check.

There are other things, but I am not gonna write about them.

I can relate to that. My father gets on my nerves, because I constantly come up with ideas of improving things. lol. On the other hand when I see somebody succeed I am very happy for them, because I know it takes a lot of work and determination. My sister doesn't trust anybody and thinks that everybody is trying to get her including me, especially when I am trying to be assertive- she just can't take it. She says that I am aggressive. I just tell her how it is. lol

So in general those attitudes are very draining. Fortunately, there are people who are not like that in Poland as well, but it is still a minority I think.

Oh, the other day I had a guy posting on my blog and telling me that I know nothing and how dare I write about my interest if I am not A professional. Polish people are very stuck up on being professional, yet most of them have no idea what it means. That happens very often with Polish men here - he must have been criticized a LOT, when he was young, so now he became the judge. I find it pretty draining at times.

My motto used to be "expect the worst and then its hard to be dissapointed".

It is not my motto, I am just realistic, some thing will work and some will not. I am not that easy to discourage to be honest. However having somebody say something nice for a change would be nice:D.

Poles like to complain, but often this is when it stops. No action to follow.

PS. Rybnik, do you know that according to some studies, there is only 10 % of trust in society in Poland, that is VERY LOW. I was shocked. However, I am not surprised, but that is another topic all together.

the end of rant:D. Thanks all.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

Tuwim's was funny. Hard to believe he wrote it (the dupa thing and all :)

he was indeed. Regardless of vulgarism in his poetry, not many things have changed here since his time, or we both represent the same sensitivity;).

Are you fed up aphro?

sometimes I am. The negativity in Poland is getting to me and it boils down to often small things.
