Life / Cheapest car spares in Poland? [23]

We love Mercedes, Audi, VW, Skoda ;) and buy only well known brand aftermarket parts

I would agree with you there having always had a VW ,but the Lemforder suspension arms are cheaper that the genuine ones and they are poop as I used them once and only lasted 18months before the dreaded squeak and clunk came back to haunt me.Do VW in Poland have a TPS?

UK, Ireland / Can I use a Polsat Hard Drive on my Polsat Decoder in the UK ? [2]

I cant see the that there would be a problem as it is only a recording device. If its the decoder you are wanting to know about I don't see a problem with that working outside of Poland.I have a Polsat card and cam which I purchased in Poland and works fine here in the UK.I have just purchased a new box with PVR capability but have not tried to record directly to the box as its networked to my pc and I can record to that

got a normal sky dish and so far so good, no problem wi signal at all

Is that a zone 1 or zone 2 dish? Ive tried a zone 1 dish and it pulled in a poor signal when the weather was not so good.I only tried as it was a redundant dish on the house and have it hooked up in the spare room for when the in laws visit.I was thinking of changing it to a zone 2 as they are a larger dish

UK, Ireland / Polish car Insurance for UK [8]

1st off read this to register the car in the UK and take out the appropriate insurance: gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/registering-an-imported-vehicle

Please do not try doing it on the sly because if you are involved in an accident its easier for all to sort out.Remeber that if some crashed in to one of your family members or worse killed one how would you feel if the person involved was not properly insured!Sell the car and buy a cheap car run about

Work / Why is Polish workmanship so bad? [52]

In my experience, Polish workmanship isn't bad. Quite the opposite. They are good carpenters

Same here,We are currently installing a pool and inground spa at an amazing property. Its a new build and when we turned up 90% of the workers from brickies to sparkies are Polish and and their work is top notch.

Life / Rules in Poland about Christening - can Church of England be godparent? [11]

My wife and I had our daughter christened last month in Poland and both God parents had to be Catholic.May be it depends on the priest of the church bit his reasons were they had to be Catholic so they could give our daughter guidance in the Catholic way.Im not a Catholic I'm COE so I thought it to be a bit strange.

We had to provide him with our wedding cert

[quote=teflcat]He did a nifty disappearing trick with the banknote I slipped him.

Did you not ask for a reciept ;-)

UK, Ireland / Getting Polish internet tv in the UK [4]

Is your internet tv box an open box? A satellite set up does not have to be expensive,Get yourself a Dreambox 500HD get a dish up and do some reading here [satellites.co.uk/forums/dreambox-500-hd/] If you go for a motorised dish you will be amazed at what you can view. You can get a clone dream box 500 hd for around £150.00,80cm Dish & Lnb would be about £60.00ish Motor from Maplins around £45.00.Then your brackets and coax.Cosidering the cost of subs these days this is the way to go.Do some reading here [satellites.co.uk/forums/] and here [alsatforum.com/forum.php]

Setting up a motorised dish for the 1st time is frustrating but well worth it.If you go this route there are loads of tutorials of how to do this on the above forums

Also read up on ccam on the above forums

Polish have a habit of moving the frequencies around so the dish has to be retuned

You dont need to retune the dish, you can do whats called a blind scan on most boxes which will scan the satellite you are pointing at (Polish tv is on Hotbird13)

We have a similar set up at home and we get all Polsat has to offer ;-)

Thanks for your help.

No worries. Is your wedding going to be a civil or church one?You will need various bits of paper work.Passport, birth cert, and if you have been married before decree absoloute these had to be translated and given prior to the wedding.Depending where you get married I can pass on the contact the numbers of the band, photographer and video chap.Only the photographer was local and the band and video chap came over from Rabka

Love / Any suggestions for wedding venues in South of Poland [28]

G60Edition, if you've got any info on costs of your wedding, then that would be verrry useful.

Ok I have spoken to the wife and the wedding cost £7k ish
Now that did include the two receptions
Food (Cost will depend how many dishes you have)
Cakes given to the guests the day before and the wedding cake
Wedding car hire
Mini buses to collect guests from the airport and running people back and forth on both days
Alcohol (we supplied our own Vodka, beer and various spirits and soft drinks)
Photographer (extra depending on size and what pictures you want to purchase)
Video (You will need to feed and water him/her)
Band(factor in feeding and watering the band)
Flowers
Invitations
Gifts for parents ,best man and brides maid
That did not include the wedding dress and my suit and rings
Im sure you can get it cheaper and also pay a lot more its just depends on what you and your future wife wants
Hope this gives you rough idea of costs

The costs can be sizeable but you can recoup most, if not all, through money gifts.

Very true

Love / Any suggestions for wedding venues in South of Poland [28]

I have been to a few fantasic wedding parties here but not sure on the costs stynol.pl. If you are on a tight budget you may want to try here kasper-suski.pogodzinach.net/galeria.html as they also have accommodation and the park/gardens there are great for photos (I know we used the park/gardens for some of our wedding pictures. The accommodation is a little basic but clean. We had our reception here hotels.com/ho346518/monttis-sucha-beskidzka-poland/#descrip tion. The food and service was top class could not fault them and no complaints from friends who used their accommodation. We took our own alcohol and got our own band in with no charges. We had our second day in a different Stynol in Zawoja opposite the ski lift which was good as we took all our guests up for photos.Ill have a chat with the wife about the costs as I cant remember.

A wedding party for 50 is going to cost you a bundle wherever you hold it.

So very true

UK, Ireland / Polish Prams & Baby Travel Systems [12]

Hi,We purchased a Jane Rider Matrix Light as we travel from the Uk to Poland on a regular basis. We bought it because is suited our needs. It is light and compacts down well with removable rear wheels. The pram part can be adjusted in to a car seat or and I believe it is the only one on the market that the pram can be used on the back seat in the lay down posistion which is meant to be better for the baby on longer journeys. There are host of add on you can get for this system. But be aware as the frame of the pram is oval a universal parasol will not fit and Jane will be happy to relieve you of around 40 pounds for there one.Saying that it is good quality and is UV protective.

Here is a link to a polish site that sell them.Hope this of help: janecenter.pl/wozki

Travel / DRIVING TO POLAND THIS THURSDAY ANY TIPS? [35]

I have driven several time and its not all that bad.Just do a few basic checks on your car before you go.Water, oil, screen wash, tyre pressures including spare. Its also worth checking your exhuast rubber mountings nothing like sat on the side of a motorway for the sake of a few pound. You should have a first aid kit, warning triangle and spare bulb kit and a hi viz.A supply of redbull and a pack of pro+ will help ;-) Dont buy beam deflectors black insulation tape works just fine and easier to remove when you get home.Have a safe journey

Love / American marrying Polish woman in Poland - Church problems [79]

No im not that old, being a divorcee was always going to be problem. But being christened within the Church of England the Catholic church do no accept it as a religion as the Queen is head of the church. We were told by the RC priest it would have been easier if I was not C Of E.That info was given to me by a RC Solicitor who did the interviews. The priest of the church my wife attends was very helpful and understanding but the local Polish priest was very unhelpful and rude. The Polish marriage classes were a hoot
