USA, Canada / Financial requirements for US greencard? [10]

hi, does anyone know anything about the financial requirements for a us citizen wanting to marry a polish national?

It says the annual income of the us citizen needs to be at least 125% of the poverty level for the household size. so if im alone that would be $10 k but if i live with my fiancee then it would be over 18k a year. My girlfriend and I were thinking of getting these fantastically wealthy friends of ours to sponsor us but then we realize that they technically earn zero yearly income - they're just filthy rich. I thought of getting my friend to sponsor us who earns 100k a year but most of this income is off the books in the form of tips, gratuities, etc which is the same with me.

Would these get in the way of having my girlfriend's green card application accepted?

all answers are much appreciated thanks!

Language / I'm gonna learn Polish in a month! [86]

oh shit alright guys here's the deal, I chose a bad time to take up this challenge, I went away for a week and a half, and much of my free time otherwise has been taken up with this website I'm making which is killing me because I'm trying to use Flash/php, for which I have no experience. I really wanted to ace this Polish challenge and leave all of you awed and shut-faced, now I just feel like moron, sorry..I will renew this challenge again once I make sure that the month ahead is clear of major happenings.

Believe it!

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

No one is bashing Poland here at least not from my point of view, but you have only been here a few months and when you have lived here for a few years you will understand what problems are dealt with by Polish and us foreigners alike.

Oh I know what it's like believe me it doesn't take very long to get acquainted with the Polish Bureacracy, but whenever I've complained about something, and I've seen this happen to a couple of other people, we usually get the "like it or leave it" routine...

LondonChick

Good luck to you as well, as for trying to learn Polish, I wrote out a silly short story in plain english and had it translated (on this forum) then learned that, and now I spend time re-writing it in the first person, second, person, etc, past tense, present tense, future tense, etc.

Polish actually isn't that difficult since there are apparently just three tenses, and apparently, there is some regularity to the way verbs are conjugated - who would have thought?!

Well, I'm falling behind a bit on my studies actually, so time to get back on track -

Dude, perhaps a more grown up goal would be more useful? How about something like -

Wel it should go without saying that if I can read children's books then I have the grammar and basic vocabulary needed for all the things you mentioned...

I speak French because i Lived in Geneva for 10 years. I used to have a basic grasp of German, completely lost it, but i'm gonna get around to that one too.

And yes I expect someone here to challenge me within a month:)

Daniel temmet learned Icelandic in 7 days.

Language / I'm gonna learn Polish in a month! [86]

I've been here since january but I haven't even tried to learn polish, I got too scared. However, as I mentioned in a previous post, I missed out on a 8000.- a month opportunity because I don't speak polish. So now i'm determined to challenge myself and pick up a working knowledge of Polish in 30 days. Plus I feel like a bastard coming here and expecting to get by with english.just The goal is for me to be able to read children's books in Polish within a month. I might ask for help once in a while with translations etc.

It can be done!
