Love / I dont get why you guys think are too young for sex even though aoc in Poland is ok [40]

With all that cellulite and stretch marks? Gross...

nah. I'm not perfect neither. nor are you.
there is no reason why one couldn't chose a milf that takes care of herself. Sure- gravity is still a *****, but "Kto wybrzydza, ten nie rucha" ;)

nah, but seriously- the best shags I ever had were with women 35+ years old.

Study / Study in Poland without English IELTS? [28]

why do you think that he studied law in English and not in whatever his native tongue is (assuming he did indeed study it)?

Study / Study in Poland without English IELTS? [28]

oh, c'mon. OP's English isn't really *that* bad. I've heard (or read actually) far worse... but ad rem: no, if that's the English they use, there is no point of starting English language course.

Life / Your favourite Polish Music Album [25]

If I'd have to pinpoint a single album, it would be Svann's "Granica czerni i bieli" ("The border of blackness and whiteness" or something like that).

It was created almost 15 years ago by the people from Abraxas and Closterkeller; their two vocalist sing together. Songs are only in Polish, that group came to existence only for that album.

Love / How common or culturally accepted is divorce in Poland? [43]

isn't church's morality a rather funny thing? cohabitating with your partner is deemed a bigger sin than sleeping around (when you are single).

but ad rem: in towns/cities almost half of marriages end in divorce. Quite a low figure, to be hones, considering how many people get married because of wpadka (and then poison each others' lifes, together with their child's)

UK, Ireland / Polish career criminal gets six years for rape [43]

If the U.K. had control of its borders (and thank god it will soon again, and the Home Office will be slashing legal immigration)

you, my dear, are delusional.
UK always had a total control over non-EU citizens- yet we cannot even do that (i.e. control them).
claims that "we will finally control our borders" are utterly idiotic- where will the UKBA (or however they are called now) recruit its officers? and when?

Language / Are Anglophones able to detect different Polish accents? [17]

I've met some Poles who lived in the UK for a while and speak English with a sort of weird mix of British/Polish accent.

funny fact: after living in the Mighty for over a decade, I have- apparently- developed a.. French accent o.O
and I was told that by a few Brits, as well as by.. Polish (in Poland- they have noticed my accent has changed). Funny thing is I speak no French, never learned it etc.

UK, Ireland / Are you able to hear the different English accents? [97]

@DominicB
oh, c'mon.
I have no problems (usually) understanding local (Northern English- Southern Scottish) accents. Also, distinction between (general) British and (general) American is pretty clear- and Texan was detected by me straight away (I met a pair of Texans when I've visited Orkney Island).

Life / Apple v IBM computers in Poland [37]

1. now there is no reason to distinguish "Macs" and "PC"- almost all of them now use ibm-compatible architecture (well... AMD64 to be specific). UEFI is a standard too.

2. Price of apple-branded hardware is ludicourously (ok, I know I misspelt it) high, considering they don't really offer anything extra in return than no wonder people don't buy them

UK, Ireland / Polish man jailed for using dog to attack Muslims leaving mosque [45]

The interesting question here - post-Brexit, will such animals be simply deported upon conviction?

there is no reason scum like him could not be deported now, before brexit.
after March 2019, UK will have to have to arrange compromise with (hopefully) EU as-a-whole or with every country separately (good luck with that!).

Australia / Newborn girl -ska or -ski ? AUSTRALIA [12]

.... or you could just name her according to the convention of the country you live. You know- assimilate (in the same way everyone would require other migrants to in Poland).

congratulations to you, I hope she and her mum are fine btw.

Food / Papa John's Pizza coming to Poland [28]

I love their base- the toppings are the same as elsewhere, but the base beats the dominos, pizza hut and others!

Travel / Winter clothing for Poland (Gdansk) [11]

I like Helikon's clothes. Nothing can beat decent fleece and thin, membrane jacket on top of it. Lighter, cheaper and better than wool/fur combo

Language / Best book for a language noobie? Learning Polish. [22]

Well... few posts were deleted meanwhile, but as Delphiandomine has written: it's not for me. I'm always available for her for help, but this book should have a pretty decent description of grammar terms just in case if my help wouldn't be enough (but, gods thanks, there is always PF!)

Language / Best book for a language noobie? Learning Polish. [22]

thanks you guys for the answers!

@delphiandomine
I was looking for something with slightly better grammar part- i.e. that would explain the case system (with examples of course) as well as perfective/imperfective verbs, modals etc etc- although I have only tested russian course on duolingo (as I hope to learn it), the grammar part there is... well, it leaves room for the improvement

@Lyzko
yes, I'm looking for a modern language book. full immersion isn't, unfortunately, an option.

Work / Polish employer suggests I have my own company in UK [21]

don't do that. US (urzad skarbowy) will demand from you unpaid taxes etc, if you live and work mostly in Poland and have your company registered abroad (UK or Czechia). it's well-known scam for naive people

Language / Best book for a language noobie? Learning Polish. [22]

Hi!
I'm looking for a book to learn Polish for my partner; it would be great if the book would be written in simple language- it's for someone who doesn't know other language then her mother tongue and isn't, unfortunately, good with languages. Polish is my native language, so I'll obviously help her with it.

I'm looking for something like "daily russian" kind of book (but, obviously, for Polish language).
TIA!

USA, Canada / Can you BE Polish without SPEAKING Polish in the US? [256]

you cannot be Polish if you don't speak Polish.
in the same way- one cannot be considered English if one speaks no English (preferable English English).
considering how often Poland was conquered and mixed with their neighbors (nothing unusual on the continent Europe), sticking to DNA marks (assuming they are any) only is IMO stupidity; it's the cultural heritage (of which language is a big part) that matters; not whoever your parents were.

Genealogy / How to legally change your name in Poland? [15]

(...)You better off with your USC office if you're residing here.

oh c'mon. you don't give him enough of credit. I assume he knows whatever his country of origin allows dual citizenship (Poland does).

Most countries will either deny or make it complicated and very time consuming to change your name based on the fact that you hold second citizenship.

hm... As I've written above- my case was simple. Or, to be more specific- not harder than any other case of name change (other than by the marriage or by adoption etc). Rules are quite straighforward, admin workers were helpful. easy peasy.

The Polish embassy will not come to your rescue when you get detained in your own country of birth or other foreign country.

aye. it's essential to either know laws of both countries, or use trusted lawyers (and pay for it).

Genealogy / How to legally change your name in Poland? [15]

May I ask you if you changed you name in the foreign country too?

sorry for such a late answer.

whatever you are allowed to have two different passports (of different countries) with different names- well, it is somehow a grey area (or maybe I do not understand the law). remember- your, let say, US ID doesn't really matter in Poland if you also have a Polish one.

I've changed my name (from, let say, Jan Kowalski to John Smith) first in the UK (where I chose to settle)- I did it through the deed poll. I don't really know where are you from, but in the UK one needs not to bother the courts if one wishes to change their name- deed poll is enough (of course- signed by the witness!).

After I've got issued with the British passport- under my anglicized name and surname- and after I changed my driving license (de facto main ID card in the UK) I went to the Urzad Stanu Cywilnego (USC- not UPC which came I have no idea from tbf) of my (former) town where I used to live- and wrote a letter basically stating that since I am a resident of other country, and I do have dual citizenship, and since I actually use my new names I wish to change them in Poland as well. As a proof I have provided my passport and driving license which were photocopied there- btw, the admin workers there were really helpful and nice, I couldn't say a bad word about them even If I'd like to do so; well, anyway- the permission was granted by- AFAIK- the Wojewoda (I'm not sure about that: the only thing I'm sure is that it was still a request that could be refused; unlike in the UK where you just state that you are no longer JK but JS /and setop using your old name/)- anyway, since I was born in different part of Poland they have to send some papers to the USC where I was born to change my (Polish- as I have no other one) birth certificate; they have changed it and put my new name and surname on it. Than I got a full copy of it (pelny odpis aktu urodzenia) and filled documents to get my Dowod Osobisty (ID card- as it's more conveniant to carry it than passport) which was issued quite quickly (not that I was in the rush or anything).

I hope I helped you, somehow. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask them.

Polonia / Learning Polish in Amsterdam [19]

Scots isn't a "separate" language, Norn however.......

well... that's debatable.
Although the Frisian is the closest relative of English language (or rather: languages) outside the Britain, I find Afrikaans to be much more to it than the Dutch is. Plus, it has much better orthography and grammar rules than its mother tongue (i.e. the Dutch).

Love / Urgent Relationship help - wife wants to stay in Poland [118]

@BritboyByd

my advice: get rid of her.
keep supporting your children (that's obvious), but stop sending her that amount of money. remember: kids do have both parents, there is no reason you should contribute to more than half of their upbringing (i.e. sponsor her lazy ass).

ideally, you should open a bank account and pay some money in for each of your children, they could use it when they grow up. they, not their mother.
