UK, Ireland / Immigration and Identity: how to keep Polish identity when living in UK. [30]

Yeah, he clearly hasn't heard enough Polish but I like what he had to say. Poles are the wake-up call that Brits needed. Poles have enough of their own shops there to be settled. Besides, many are lone wolves that don't want to be overexposed to Polish ways. They feel cheated by their country and I don't blame some of them for that. They study very hard and for what?

History / Was the Polish/ Lithuanian commonwealth a European power? [111]

doesn't deserve her present (though earn is a neat idea in a way) and is not entitled to her future (though allow expresses it quite well) or has no right to her future.

Anyway, back to the thread.

No, I meant that the order of the world has changed somewhat markedly and that sometimes you have to realign yourself in that scheme of things and not overly dwell on the past. When you sign to new commitments, you should honour them.

Love / Scottish & Polish relationships [229]

Well put, gercasty! I really get on well with all kinds of Poles here. I can actually use cześć with many shop workers to keep the mood light and they are fine with that. Trevek promoted your magazine.

UK, Ireland / Polish Lessons / Polish tutor wanted in Manchester [22]

I think so too. I just assumed that you'd understand the English I wrote. I like your tutorials and input to language threads, Polish Tutor. I say that without sarcasm and as an experienced teacher.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, that's true! (not reducing you to pudding here either, ;) ;) ;)).

Thanks, TM!!

I'm endorsing you, PT.

Pretty decent translation, Mr Grunwald. I won't be pedantic and correct it as I understood what you wanted to say. I agree with it. However, some breaks from the past are needed in a substantially altered new order of things.

Love / ARE POLISH GIRLS GOLD-DIGGERS? [359]

Talk about generalisations ;) ;)

Many Western men can impose discipline and lay down ground rules, believe me.

It seems like a garbage source. Don't you know that many are paid to write such nonsense by interest groups? Also, they sometimes just want a story and any old rot will do.

I put an end to the discussion a long time ago by saying that some are and some aren't.

What absolute garbage, KP!! Every relationship has its own dynamic and an understanding of give and take transcends national boundaries.

Life / Is Poland a safe country for people of color? [241]

So some Poles are allowed to have big mouths and offend the space of others but not immigrants, right? (a common complaint of immigrants, that their space is taken).

They don't have the right of freedom of association? Are Slavic girls terrorists that they can't talk to? Are you paranoid?

History / What connects Poland with Vlad Impaler or to say Vlad Tepes or simple Dracula [43]

The Wars of Independence in Yugoslavia were largely Slavic internal affairs, Crow. Allegiances were strained and friendships ruined over divided loyalty between Yugoslavia and ethnic kin.

As for Poland, Ukraine and Russia, all 3 constantly harp back to past wounds and differences. This is not a revelation, Crow, it's just fact. My wife thinks many Russians are 'dziki' (wild) and I'm sure similar sentiments are felt between Poles and Ukrainians.

A few lessons in conflict avoidance wouldn't have gone amiss. Celts too.

Life / Is Poland a safe country for people of color? [241]

Many Poles do tend to be indifferent, that's true. Still, I wouldn't like to be a coloured person out on a Friday or Saturday night in quite a few parts of Warsaw or certain towns in the east of Poland. Gliwice is quite a conservative town so coloured people are noticed but often left alone. It just takes a drunken idiot to spark off fights.

You need to get over yourself, jarnowa. What is all this elitist Slavic BS? Slavic this, Slavic that. Some Slavs are some of the wildest people on Earth. They fight amongst themselves all too often. If a foreigner wants to get a prized (LOL) Slavic girl, so be it. He has that option.

A fresh infusion gets away from the stale club thoughts. Communism is like a club too, do you like commies?

Why is knowledge of other members important? Sharing thoughts and opinions is. This is a forum.

I see you haven't paid your club subscription ;) ;)

Polish or not, it is still a forum to discuss Polish issues and I'm frequently asked what I think about various aspects of life here. That's the point!

She has a right to voice her sentiments.
