Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

Dnz has a point. There is a large element of selfishness in Poland's being in the EU but we can hardly blame them after they were dropped in communism.

Yalta and Tehran were a disgrace.

The problem with Britain is that you often have to carve out your own openings. If I returned, I'd likely look at ways to become self-employed. I've learned how to manage my own affairs with the help of my able-bodied wife. I've travelled widely and know the ropes.

Travel / Why some travelers hate Poland? [45]

True, it makes no sense to target the whole country at all. Those who don't appreciate the hospitality or wide range of markets are just blind. Poland is a great country to explore and learn new things.

Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

Aha, ok. I think you have to be less fussy about the accountant that you find. You are hardly spoilt for choice there.

How's the teaching going anway?

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

That's what I meant, it was pretty reasonable in Silesia and that's where Auschwitz is located. Well, I consider it as Silesia ;) In other parts I wouldn't be so sure.

Law / Apostille stamp in Warsaw [26]

I don't imagine there to be many problems getting it in a short timeframe, ls. The consulates aren't that busy typically. Try it out, I don't see complications.

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

Some were and some weren't I'd say.

I wouldn't say that Poland had a particularly developed transport network overall. It just had the routes that the Nazis needed. That was enough.

Law / Apostille stamp in Warsaw [26]

I'm sorry, it's a very specialised question but I hope the following helps, apostilleinfo.com/poland.htm

I can remember thinking that I'd get it quickly from Scotland but I didn't need it after all. As for India, I hope that it doesn't follow banking timeframes. India is perhaps the only country where you may have to wait up to 3 months to get a Nationwide CHAPS transfer, transferring money from Britain to India.

I think, being a Hague Convention issue, they will have streamlined it and you should get it promptly.

Law / Apostille stamp in Warsaw [26]

The apostille stamp is a verification document of sorts, jonni. It can act as certification that there are no impediments to marriage. Try the British Consulate website the Foreign&Commonwealth Office (FCO). I found them to be very helpful.

Aha, you are Indian so of course try the Indian Consulate.

Food / Herb used in Polish rosol (chicken soup)? [88]

Spoken like a true Pole :) Scots like it salty but Poles take it to a whole new level. Still, we are ahead of you in coronary heart disease ;) ;)

News / Sikorski or Komorowski for president? [32]

I haven't read a newspaper in Lord knows how long. I don't need all the spin and useless information that comes from them. Everything is online anyway.

News / Sikorski or Komorowski for president? [32]

Varsovian, what on earth are you talking about? PO like Jewish people. Isn't that clear? Because he refused to answer your e-mail doesn't automatically make it part of Polish culture to not participate. Poland, after communism, became a fledgling democracy and, relative to other world powers, is doing remarkably well thanks.

Juliet, I am no fan of Zionists (that much should be clear) but Sikorski doesn't fit that bill. He is not a patch on Joe Biden, for example. Sikorski can converse freely in English and he is quite charismatic. For me, a key test would be his modernity. If he is back in the Stone Ages like the Kaczyński brothers then no thanks.

Love / Scottish & Polish relationships [229]

I would say there is more of a separation, Mr G. They identify more with their region than their country. In Scotland, we had a clan system across the country and that was a source of national pride. Polish highlanders aren't promoted enough, maybe only in beers like Harnas and Żywiec ;) ;)

Love / Scottish & Polish relationships [229]

Yeah, we both have a great tradition in that respect. The Polish highlanders are more temperamental, it is said. Scottish ones are more patriotic in the main, they identify with the whole nation more.

News / Can Poland expect similar bomb attacks as in Moscow? [85]

Before you know it, the Celtic/Slavic connection will be reestablished ;) ;)

Poland doesn't know what's round the corner. They can't leave anything to trust. Terror knows no boundaries and we can't get complacent!

Life / Mosquitoes in Poland [40]

I've had a few 'kopruchy' here already. Little blighters!

These kopruchy need to be killed off.

Classifieds / Poland Tartan Army [19]

We are different from England in that respect although they have really clamped down on hooliganism and violence abroad.

News / Can Poland expect similar bomb attacks as in Moscow? [85]

Crow is right. Russia must deal with this themselves. Poland has already unopened the can of worms that could lead to foreign fighters getting revenge. It may have been incidental that Stanczak was Polish but he was seen as an invader and maybe hand-picked due to his Polish status. Poland, although they should dislike Soviets, should keep a mellow tone with Russia but not intervene by sending GROM for any political help mission. That won't happen anyway. Let people determine their own interpersonal relations but keep Poland strong by not flexing a muscle that doesn't need flexing/to be flexed.

Food / Herb used in Polish rosol (chicken soup)? [88]

Jonni, it might be a Silesian thing but Maggi is added to broth here but it may well be a matter of preference only and not so widespread. I tend to observe more important things in life :) Parsley definitely is.

Love / ARE POLISH GIRLS GOLD-DIGGERS? [359]

Stick, LOL. He meant clingy. What's wrong with being attached to your man anyway? Life in Poland isn't easy so the man should be supportive.
