News / 4th Polish Republic may re-emerge [244]

SP would get 8%? PSL 10%? Play lotto if you like betting on random generated numbers.

What's more, it's assuming that the PSL would risk their parliamentary future for the sake of a coalition with a man known to spy on coalition partners.

Right. Just like Marcinkiewicz, who was being controlled from the back seat. And what is the point in that?

And who was removed as soon as he started threatening to walk an independent path.

Our beloved leader Kim-Il-Sung, the eternal president. Sounds familiar.

Some people might say that this is the only way that PiS can survive as a party.

I'm more likely to open a beer and enjoy the wacko's seventh failure in a row.

I wonder what kind of excuses he'll come up with after this defeat?

It's almost becoming enjoyable to watch them blame the voters for being stupid.

News / 4th Polish Republic may re-emerge [244]

Not until 2015. PiS will get 39% and will team up with Solidarna Polska (8%) and PSL (10%).

Except Solidarna Polska haven't got a chance of getting such a result. PiS would also have to do something that they've never done, at a time when they cannot get higher than 30% in the opinion polls. The PSL are also highly unlikely to get 10% if PiS get 39%.

Only a PiS-led coalition would be able to form a cabinet.

Let's take your hypothetical scenario of PiS getting 39%. They would still be forced into opposition by the current electoral mathematics (PO, PSL, SLD and RP all voting against them) - therefore guaranteeing another 4 years of opposition.

Kaczyński will not be the PM but Gliński will.

Glinski is a non-starter. He lost the vote of non-confidence, and he would be widely seen as a Kaczynski puppet.

Kaczyński will be voted the lifelong honorary chariman and elder statesman of PiS and will retian a prominent consultative role.

Which is why PiS would never enter a coalition with the elephant in the corner. The other parties know exactly what his game is - and they won't be fooled.

If the forthcoming IV RP is not to your liking, you're free to leave.

Fortunately, we have nothing to worry about - PiS have no chance of getting elected with Kaczynski at the helm.

The real question now should be - who will lead PiS into the next parliamentary election? Will the party really want to keep Kaczynski there if they know that they can only get 30% of the vote yet again?

Polonius, what you completely fail to understand is that disillusioned PO voters are not going to vote PiS - they will vote SLD, PSL or RP. The decline in the polls of PO is mirrored by the rise of those parties - not the rise of PiS.

Love / Fresh, wholesome country lass in Poland - getting married and going back to the US [167]

What would you advise a 50-year-old PolAm bachelor who asks where he can find a fresh, innocent, whoelsome, country lass in Poland to marry and return to the States with.

That he has no chance. I know some women who are "fresh and innocent' as you say, and they would never go near such a man.

He is hoping for someone no older than late 20s, so that may be a problem.

You're right there - can't imagine there's much in the way of "young fresh innocent girls interested in older men" in Poland.

I told him Polish Duszpasterstwa Akademickie (University Ministries) tend to attract more relgious and virtuous young ladies than the club scene.

You would be right, but at the same time, why would they be interested in him when there are plenty of younger options available?

Is he wealthy?

Work / Any Speed School of English in Poland? [54]

Like Dominic says, it's a Callan school. Go on YouTube and watch some videos - it's not really a "school", more of a factory.

Will this be your first job?

Food / Bar Reservation in Central Krakow- Near The Square [3]

That's about it really...any thoughts?

Most bars will take reservations for a small cost, but you should always make sure that the money goes behind the bar - as in you can get drink for it. If not, then always ask for a receipt.

News / 4th Polish Republic may re-emerge [244]

Not everyone was or is up to the sterling standards of the Brothers Kaczyński.

It has to be said - one respects Kaczynski for still remaining to be a leader after losing 14 elections.

USA, Canada / General differences between Poland and the USA? [184]

The universities are also to blame for opening endless new "directions" that offer a straight route to unemployment.

I don't think it's much of a secret anywhere in the world that someone graduating from a "useless" subject without work experience is heading straight to the unemployment office. I'm always amazed how Polish students take off at the slightest hint of a holiday, or how they return home to the village rather than spending weekends working and gaining experience.

You and your brown nosing. Do you really think that's the only way to get somewhere? Or by "putting an envelope onto somebody's desk"?

I never needed to suck up or pay someone to get a job. Ironside's been gone from Poland for years, things have changed.

A "whatever it takes type"? I'm just a working man.

Likewise. But I never blamed anyone but myself for when I screwed up.

News / 4th Polish Republic may re-emerge [244]

I would say that it is proof enough as to seriousness of their standing on corruption.

Oh dear. You do realise that he wasn't arrested until after PiS lost the 2007 election?

Proves that PiS were soft on corruption when it concerned their own people.

In practice such policy is perused by PO and their supporters

Again, trying to throw mud at PO when the topic is "IV RP".

That is your claim which need to be proven.

Lipiec going to prison is all the proof one needs.

So now you are telling people what to say and what not to say. They can say whether they want and they do not need to follow your guidance as what constitute on topic post and what not.

Is it because they don't want to admit that the 4th Republic was nothing but "teraz *** my" in practice?

Sure it does PO's election platform during the first election of the party put clearly anti-corruption issue and the Fourth Republic concept. Only after they lost to PiS they gradually changed their tune.

I don't remember PO talking about the Fourth Republic.

Let's be honest - the IV RP idea was nothing but a way for Jaroslaw Kaczynski to build a personal kingdom. The way that he threw out Marcinkiewicz, the way that he is still very bitter about losing in 2007 - it all points at a man who learnt everything from Daddy.

The topic has nothing to do with Tusk, PO or anyone else that you hate for not letting your Chosen One win.

The topic is the Fourth Republic, and how corrupt it was.

I edited my previous post.

Perhaps you'd like to comment on the case of Lipiec and why a Minister in the 4th Republic was taking so many bribes? Or perhaps you'd like to comment on why PiS were attempting to bribe people to join them, or one of the numerous other scandals?

News / 4th Polish Republic may re-emerge [244]

First things first : Polonius, why are you so obviously trolling with this thread? You've started a vast amount of threads over the last week - haven't you posted enough rubbish about politics to last a year on here?

Secondly :

Fourth Polish Republic is a plan for moral revolution and political change proposed by the right-leaning Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) party in the 2005 general election.

Fortunately, that plan never came into being.

According to PiS, the current Third Polish Republic is a post-communist creation whose very foundations must be changed to create a truly democratic state free of the communsit past.

In other words, they want to overthrow the legitimate Third Republic for their own creation. Quite frightening, considering Polish history.

A PiS victory in 2015 will enable patriotic Poles to finish the clean-up started in 2005-2007.

Fortunately, they won't win.

Now, let's discuss the PiS idea of "clean up".

Although a central element in Law and Justice's election campaign was the struggle against corruption and the need for a strong government that would establish law and order, the latest scandal shouldn't come as much of a surprise. As soon as PiS came to power, they began purging the state and replacing civil servants at all levels with their own people. At the beginning of the year they sacked the CEO of the biggest Polish insurance company, which is still in state hands, and replaced him with one of their cronies who is suspected of money laundering.

Oh dear.

socialistworld.net/doc/2450

That is what awaits us if PiS ever win power. Treason and corruption - a great combination!

We mustn't forget the example of the former Minister for Sport during the PiS government, who -

A Warsaw court has jailed Polish former Sports Minister Tomasz Lipiec for three-and-a-half years for corruption.

Lipiec, 41, was also banned from public office for 10 years.

A former Olympic race walker, he was appointed sports minister to step up the fight against corruption but was accused of taking bribes.

bbc/news/world-europe-17739880

This is what the 4th Republic is about - nest feathering, corruption, bribery and treason. No wonder Polonius can't wait - he remembers the good old days!

It is interesting that even according to their own statistics, Poles are actually less observant than the natives themselves.

Law / Foreign currency accounts in Poland [49]

online forex exchangers

Do be careful, as there was a high profile collapse of one a while ago called Crown Currency Exchange - they used to offer the best rates on the market, but quite a lot of people got burnt by them. If you do use one, try and find one that is properly regulated.

History / Poland is a Catholic country [177]

I know plenty of people here in Poland who believe in God, consider themselves Catholics but don't go to church for various reasons.

It's a matter of their own faith, but as far as I understood it - not going to Church when you can go is a no-no. It does seem weird that while Church attendance is somewhere slightly below 40% in Poland, it stands at only 8% in the UK among the same people. Mind you, at least part of that is the "oh, look at me, I don't go to the Church in the UK because I'm so fashionable...yet I go at home because I don't want to upset my family" complex.

So maybe people in the West are atheists only because everyone else is? What, those who believe in sth don't want to be looked down upon and ridiculed and so they go with the flow?

At least some of them are - definitely.

I wonder if the Church has any statistics on how many people attend Church in Poland but not in the country where they reside? Impossible to measure, I guess.

Indeed.

I think it's very notable that you don't see such chalking in new developments. Strange how they also seem to abandon public displays of religion as soon as they're out of the crowd, isn't it?

Which entirely fits in with the "lack of peer pressure" felt in the UK as opposed to Poland.

I suspect it's the same with the priest visiting - people only let him in because everyone else is.

No, Polonius. You know the rules, and you were suspended recently for breaking them.

Perhaps you now will choose to explain why so-called Catholic Poles choose to abandon religion when they move to the UK?

News / Shops in Poland to be closed on Sunday? [208]

Openly so. The fact that many millions of others have to work in those countries makes it even more ridiculous.

There's also the fact that those countries can afford to look after poor people. Poland can't.

News / Shops in Poland to be closed on Sunday? [208]

About 10 EU counrties ban or place restrictions on Sunday adn public holiday trading (eg only 4 Sundays a year). Judging by the rants of PF's Sunday shoppers, all those countries must be populated by people bent on harming their countries' economies and imposing hardships on fellow-citizens.

So, Polonius, what are your proposals to provide income for those who lose out as a result of these proposals?

Life / Poland's expats' colonial mentality? [176]

More probably schools will simply tell all potential teachers that if the teacher doesn't have their own company, the school isn't interested.

This is what the British Council have done, and it wouldn't surprise me if others follow. But would it really work in schools paying far less than the BC?

Personally I'd hate to work for a language school that gives umowa o praca: the amount of risk that the owner is taking is far higher than with freelancers and the owner will therefore want a much bigger cut of the profits to cover that extra risk.

This is the other thing : there really needs to be some sort of reform of employment law to allow employers to have less risk yet providing some job security for employees. The amount of danger in giving someone umowa o prace is just ridiculous.

Life / Poland's expats' colonial mentality? [176]

The word on the grapevine is that there is the beginnings of a major crackdown on using these - haven't had it verified though. It seems that they've finally started to wise up to this scam - and with it, the entire "industry" will probably go down the toilet.

In one respect though, there's no reason not to use umowa o prace - there's a 12 week probation period, so any clearly incompetent teacher can be found out quite quickly.

USA, Canada / General differences between Poland and the USA? [184]

Also, a large part of unemployment in Poland is purely on paper for benefits purposes.

Indeed, you get your healthcare paid that way for the entire family. Meanwhile, you can carry on working as before, safe in the knowledge that it is common practice and that no-one is likely to find out.

News / Shops in Poland to be closed on Sunday? [208]

However, that source you have just given us also says that up to 700,000 people would lose their jobs if Sunday trading was banned. Are you and your fellow zealots going to give those people new jobs?

Can the country afford 700,000 people not paying into ZUS and not paying income taxes?
