News / Russian air traffic controllers ignored communication protocol of Polish pilots? [194]

independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/vip-syndrome-and-pilot-error-blamed-for-crash-1942116.html

this is the most up-to-date article I think

Well worth a read. It's probably my broadsheet of choice from the UK. The angle was horrible and all witnesses confirm this. Why didn't he keep it horizontal?

And what of the theory that Russia had sth planted in the forest to wreak havoc with the operating systems of the plane? I don't know too much about aviation so I will reserve judgement.

I know that remote control tech is big business. There is much advanced tech that laymen like me don't fully grasp.

History / Anger at yet another Polish tragedy [30]

It's not sticking in the past, it's sticking in the present, M-G. If you are going to officially proclaim a week of mourning, honour it.

I just hope that Kaczyński didn't force the pilot to go against orders and his better judgement.

I can't believe nobody is asking the question of the departure from Warsaw. Fine, some individuals can be late for an international business meeting when flying from afar but a high-level delegation flying from Warsaw to Smolensk? Sth is horribly wrong with that!! You don't rush such a thing of that magnitude, you give yourself plenty of time to get there. It's not like they couldn't afford a hotel the night before. How did Tusk get there btw? What was his journey path?

He was highly experienced and you had ample flying experience, convex.

He was told the whole time to not fly there. I sincerely hope that the intransigence of Kaczyński didn't cause this but precedent is against him. Why didn't they leave Warsaw earlier? This is what baffles me! Without a satisfactory answer to this very question, the fingers of blame should not be pointed at the Belarussians or Russians.

History / Anger at yet another Polish tragedy [30]

It's hardly mourning when people are focussed on their jobs and school. Why put a 1 week time on it then? Why not just let some people mourn eternally as some people never get over deaths?

To be the pilot of the President's plane is a job not given to just any old pilot. I got a character reference for him as my wife has a contact that knew him. He was the kind to follow procedure which means that he wouldn't've tried to pull off such a strange landing.

Well, the pilot who took Kaczyński to Tbilisi told him to get lost and follow his expertise. He must use his better judgement and there were those on that plane that also had flying experience who could have averted the disaster. It's fishy alright!

Exactly, delph. The danger should have been known to the Polish pilot long before. We know about Aberdeen airport not doing certain flights because the runway isn't right. Here, the combination of an old plane, dodgy runway, fog and obstinance showed clearly the outcome.

However, I hope there is clarification of this as air control goes conveniently wrong at the worst times. NORAD, for example, what a mess that was! The fact that a Russian plane was diverted suggests that more effort should have been made to get the Polish plane to Moscow. 4 times pirouetting? That's bizarre!

Anger is only inverted depression after all so we can understand. I'm glad that a week of mourning has been called. Businesses should be closed so people can capture the spirit of it.

We have to really feel for those sensitive and caring Poles at this time!! Solidarity came through and won over the people once before and can do so again. I second what Filios said above, bickering needs to stop!

Being self piteous is not what is needed here. On the face of it, it appears to have been a mistake and they happen. The black box is being thoroughly investigated. Let's not be defensive here! There was a bad judgement made and we all rue that.

Don't feel angry, try and move on without this constant locking of horns. It can be done!

News / Will todays tragedy effect the economy of Poland? [34]

Avalon, I don't think he was thinking of business and profit though I'm not sure. I don't want to second guess him but this can have repercussions that many eyes don't see at the moment. Look at what happens when the powers-that-be don't get their way. They do it by force! I rue the day when a yes-man is appointed and the global elite are satisfied at the expense of the Polish national interest. That man wasn't supposed to die and I bet some fatcats are rubbing their hands in glee now.

Life / Are Polish ppl capable of revolting? [41]

Geez, Poles have some of the highest potential in the world in this respect. However, too many Poles can't see the inherent dangers in the 'quiet' approach of Tusk.

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

And only the current proliferation of Muslim issues has swayed them from that position. France is still relatively anti-Semitic and a plethora of cases against Muslims does little to detract from that.

Hitler was not going to be dissuaded from his visions, M-G.

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

M-G, read, re-read and read again the statement which you quoted me on. Hitler had a major beef (litote of the year) with Jews and they inadvertently brought the Nazis to Poland. There were many Jews here, thus easy pickings for Hitler. I expressly said that the Jews were not at fault here, Hitler merely seized the opportunity to eliminate easy prey in a neighbouring country. Can't you see what I'm saying? I'm towing the main line, not some far-fetched conspiratorial guff.

Taking on Russian Jews would have been a damn sight harder. Firstly, Germany doesn't border Russia and, secondly, Russia was far more potent than Poland.

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

What does international public opinion say on the matter? Likely that they are raising antiquated claims based on opportunism. The Jews deserve nothing for their mini-Holocaust on Palestinians. Those that had title deeds through documentation have missed their chance. This is Poland and Poles have this property now. It's not their fault that Germany and Russia had nutjobs as leaders.
