Life / Would Poles prefer US or UK medical care? [112]

I'll have to agree with you on that score.

Only, let's not blame others for pre-existing conditions and penalize average US-citizens for not being billionaires! It's a false tack, a wrong direction which is driving us into the ground and making what happened at the Pittsburgh synagogue ever more commonplace.

Where John Q. (usually male) Public feels more and more marginalized, with his livelihood, standard of living, and society being taken away from him, practically right out from under his feet, with ZERO compensation to even accompany an explanation from the Powers That Be, one really can't blame him for giving our country a wake-up call.

That's not "progress", fella, that's REgress and it's unforgivable.

Life / Worst aspects of living in Poland? [82]

"Pan", of course, simultaneously, can mean the formal singular "you", "sir"/"Mr." + both given and family name, or (The) "Lord".
It is intended as merely a form of respect when addressing either male strangers as well as even year-long male acquaintances with whom one is not on more than

a casual footing, e.g. the postman, family physician, older neighbor etc., but certainly not friends in the most European sense:-)

Americans have always been ever so casual in contrast with Europeans, that the all-purpose "you" seems almost a component of the American DNA,
and no matter how long one has lived abroad, many (such as yourself, apparently) simply can't shake it!

USA, Canada / An Ashkenazi Jew's Gratitude to Polish Americans [9]

Far more than not unsung Polish heroes risked the lives of both themselves and their families to help save Jews!
May their memory be for a blessing and their deep sacrifices never be in vain.

Polonia / Don't Poles know they don't get welfare when going Germany to look for work? [22]

The sentiment is understandable, the methods expressing discontent clearly aren't. Where's the Church throughout all of this, hiding? There should be some sort of grassroots movement involving the clergy much as there was in the US during the oft maligned Civil Rights Era, after all this time! Where's the German Father James Gropie?

Oh yeah, the Germans are so paranoid about anything resembling conventional organized religion, the citizens would doubtless throw a fit if the above were suggested openly, and Merkel a pastor's daughter no less:-)

Although the level of competence among doctors in the US, even at the top, leaves much to be desired!
Either they don't know and often don't care, or they DO know and don't wish to share unless it means a sizable fee,

something even more disgraceful.

The professional these days, typically, no longer understands their role to serve, rather than simply to sell to, society.
Most have lost their sense of place and need to be reminded, by legal force, if necessary.

History / How do Poles feel about 10th anniversary of 9/11 [40]

Most Americans in the know, will realize that 9/11 was staged, if not entirely orchestrated, by Dick Cheney, W as well, as an excuse to go to war. The Saudi assassin Fatta carried it out, but because the Bush family and the Saudi Royals were about as buddy-buddy as the Clintons with Sam Walton, nobody dared suggest we attack the Saudis.

Furthermore, VP Cheney instructed NORAD to look the other way and sent them to Iceland on maneuvers instead of being at the ready to bring down the plan and save thousands of lives!!

That's our country for you, G-D BLESS AMERICA, TRUMP AKBAR.
(Roosevelts Teddy and Franklin would be turning over in their graves!)

Hey, guys! We seem to be eternally focusing on illegals mooching off the system. My point is that for a least the past thirty-five years and counting, everyday middle-class, US-born, American citizens have been shortchanged by a system which regularly rewards incompetence with super young medical "practitioners" often fitting the affirmative action theme, more interested in wearing sling-back shoes or fixing their expensive coiffeur instead of practicing medicine.

And the average American who doesn't happen to be a Beyoncé, Madonna or whoever gets shafted.

Back in the sixties when my wife and I were born, the granddaughter of Irving Berlin was being given birth in the room right next to ours, at the now defunct

Doctor's Hospital. He had untold BILLIONS, yet was given as respectable a treatment as the child of a copywriter and part-time children's book illustrator.

If only medicine could remember the Hippocratic Oath and recall that every patient is a valued patient....equal before our Maker!

History / Poland and Israel getting back on the right foot...maybe [132]

When the North took over the South after the end of the Civil War, and some carpetbagger(s) all but "stole" you or your family's rightful property, businesses, land etc., hell Johnny, you'd be fightin' mad and want to get restitution for what was taken from you and which was at the time RIGHTFULLY yours!

After the Anschluss in '38, Jewish property similarly was purloined by the Nazis and many descendents not to mention survivors of those Jewish families to this day haven't seen as much as a penny in compensation. Plenty have, but plenty haven't.

If you've had a belly full of whining, complaints and so forth, just imagine what the Jews had to go through, and of course, the Sinti-Roma along with plenty of others affected! They're as sick of your being sick of complaints as they are of making them, I'm sure of that.

You might not have mentioned it, yet it couldn't have been far from your mind! The question is neither simple, nor to my mind, even a question.

Once more, not everybody is a drug addict. What's more, the latter are people too.
When you start playing games with peoples' bodies, rationing care, scattered site locations for bread-and-butter basic services,
you know the country's in deep, deep sh***t!

I can still remember the doctor of yore, a middle-aged to older, nerdy, bespectacled gent with bad breath who looked as though he
stayed up nights worrying about his patients.

Make no mistake. The issue is black and white, no gray area here or wiggle room for misguided logic; the above way was the right way,

what passes for medicine today is flat WRONG.

Please, please don't blame things on overpopulation. Every human being is equal before G-d and doctors are there to be doctor, and
not play G-d.

History / If Poles were antisemitic, would they ...? [240]

@Ironside, I'm not surprised you agreed with my post! After all, underneath that tough exterior, I always suspected there lay a person of some intelligence lurking

just below the surface:-)

@B.B. My pleasure, sir! Uebung macht den Meister. Practice makes perfect.

History / Poland and Israel getting back on the right foot...maybe [132]

I represent the voice of reason!

Jews doubtless tried to help their gentile neighbors. Many in fact, sent generous funds to the families of Poles post '45 who helped hide them during the war.

This is documented.

Bottom line, folks!

Affordable, adequate to decent Health Care is a BIRTHRIGHT in the US, just as in any other so-called advanced, industrialized, first-world country. not a privilege for the few. About this, "debate" as to the facts, pro or con is not an option.

Israeli Jews distrust American Jews, even considering them to be wimps.
Much as in the Old West, Israel similarly feels, if yer leavin' yer home at any time, better bring a "friend" aka a semi-automatic with ya!

Israelis on average leave the negotiating or brain work to those whom they mistakenly believe possess the luxury of talking:-)

But like the homesteaders or sod busters of old, Israel too might one day turn civilized.
It'll take time though, and a lot of sacrifices.

Heck, ol PM Rabin once tried the latter and got himself killed.
