Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

What do you think?

I think your question is silly. Obviously you've never been. Let me answer in this manner: Honduras and Nicaragua are poor countries. Albania and Romania are poor countries. Poland is NOT a poor country.

Love / Filipino guy with a Polish girl.. [60]

Why not many Polish girls date Asian guys? Is there any reason for that? huh? There are some Polish guys with Asian girls but not a lot of Polish girls with Asian guys..

Because you Filipino men are major mama's boys and are notoriously un-faithful. That's why the Filipinas in the States dread hooking up with you guys. They all hope and pray they'll meet some "American".

Love / More loveless sex of Poles living in the regained lands [73]

so your premise is that these deviant behaviors are more prevalent in the West of Poland as opposed to elsewhere?I'm sorry. I don't buy it. These tings you reference are pretty much universal instincts and impulses independent of geopgraphy.

Love / More loveless sex of Poles living in the regained lands [73]

TVN24 has reported sexulogist Zbigniew Izdebski as saying the Poles most likely to engage in one-night stands and other forms of causal, loveless sex

Just one question: how was this study done? questionaire? Maybe folks in the west lie more than their eastern cousins ;)

Love / Living with a Polish man, but he has a drinking problem? [60]

worriedanita should send him for a counseling if she thinks there’s a problem

The point is the guy with the problem has to want to go. If he doesn't go, the OP should (get on with her life, that is)

Anita,
I concur with the above statements/advice. As someone, who has dealt with addiction on a professional as well as personal level, the addicted needs to realize that they need help before they will seek it out.

Go on with your life!
Good luck

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

Why not check out the meaning of occupation. We've already established that compromised though the PRL was, it most definitely wasn't an occupation.

Technically, you're right. Nonetheless, the people of that time behaved as if they were indeed occupied. Everyone knew who the occupiers were. Everyone knew what the occupiers deemed appropriate and inappropriate. And everyone was in agreement WHO the true occupiers were. No one that I came in contact with during my 7 years ever laid the final blame on Warsaw. All eyes looked East.

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

It's interesting that most Poles agree with the rest of the world, but that some 'Polish'-Americans think that they know better than Poles about what happened in Poland

It's possible that some Poles think that now but back in the day all the Poles I met and developed friendships with and who were not Party members did indeed feel as if they were occupied. They were angry, frustrated and at times fearful. They never, ever felt that they were free to pursue their happiness.....just sayin

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

I'm watching the Polish news and the host is reporting on the lost child from Sosnowiec, who turns out lost his life at home. The mother confessed. So the reporter says that there was ogromny linch(sp) internetowy. Does this mean an online lynching? character assasination? Has anyone else heard this term?

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

The point is not whether there's another language with a usable equivalent for a word in Polish etc..

Agreed![
quote=mafketis]What bothers me is smug self-conscious unneeded borrowings that the speaker thinks makes them look cosmopolitan. Really, in this day and age, borrowing English words into another language is the most unoriginal and banal behavior possible....[/quote]
Well said.

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

From 1945 until the mid 50's - yes, it pretty much was. After then - no. There were just too many people with a stake in the system staying the way it was for it to be an occupation. If you look at who was repressing who - it was Poles repressing Poles. Allowing them to claim "Soviet" occupation is just an easy way out.

I disagree. I lived about a mile from the Soviet Army base replete with MIG fighters. We saw those bastards everyday walking and riding the streets. To us it indeed was an occupation.

@ southern............There was no grey area in this regard. We felt as if we were occupied.

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

This exchange is a rule of language so why get all anal about it?

I'm aware of the exchange but my beef is with the speed of this exchange. So many English words being incorporated at a very rapid rate. What's the rush? Why are these words so attractive to the Poles? I guess I'm intrigued.

Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

Infidelity is grounds for divorce in almost all cultures including Catholics.

No it's not! I'm a RC. I'm divorced, remarried and I cannot receive the Eucharist. I would need to get an annulment. Do you have any idea what that costs?!

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

they are affraid of the Muslim religion more often not of the people,
mostly because we dont understand and know it so good.

they're afraid because it has been associated with violence NOT peace. what I feel is needed is for more of the clergy, the imams, to speak out against all this destruction. Up until now it only the crazies, who are making themselves heard.
