History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

So what difference does it make to you if you win Lwów back or not?

Stronger and bigger Poland.

Your beloved Polish government

My beloved "Polish" government? If I only took over the power in Poland you would quickly see how I "love" them.

Language / Which language is easier for Poles? [43]

Grubas, both refer to the neck so it's not that different.

Now you are thinking in English it does make a difference Sean. For instance women in Poland don't wear necklesses na karku but na szyji hence naszyjnik not nakarknik.Right?

Here in Silesia, kark refers to a guy with a big neck and not the meat

It's common in whole Poland to refer to mafia/organized crime groups "soldiers" as karki. As for meat it's karkówka my friend.

Language / Which language is easier for Poles? [43]

Slavic languages are mutually intelligible if both sides put an effort.

Not true.It is easy to make Polish SOUND like Russian but it doesn't mean that Russian speaker will have ANY clue what you are trying to say.I was learning Russian in school for 8 or so years but when few years ago an Ukrainian girl (a stripper working in Japan btw) approached me on Heathrow airport we both had a very hard time to understand each other.

Any one who puts Ukrainian or Belarusian higher then Czech has no clue about the subject...

True.I guess only Slovakian comes closer to Polish than Czech does.Czech is kinda like very very old Polish though sometimes words means something completelly different. For instance sklep in Chech means piwnica or my favorite szyja in Czech means kark and karkmeans szyja.

Language / Polish past tense of chodzic/ jezdzic? [23]

Forget about szedłem/szłam.
Poszłam/Poszedłem is OK.

I disagree.Poszłam/poszedłem indicates that you actually reached (with some exceptions) the place you were walking to,while Szłam/szedłem does not.

Szedłem I went

No.Szedłem/szłam means "I was walking".For instance:
Szedłem do kina kiedy zaczął padać deszcz-I was walking to the cinema when it started to rain.
Poszedłem do kina kiedy zaczął padać deszcz-I went to the cinema when it started to rain.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

I like repeating myself (OK I lied) every Pole who says we should consider going after Lwów again is nuts

I am not saying we should go agressivelly after Lwów at any cost but we must be prepared to snatch it back (as well as Wilno,Grodno and few other towns) when the opportunity comes.

Let's not forget that we are still -80000 sq km as a result of WW2.I want Poland at least 400000 sq km large and a 100 milions strong.

The western lands (which btw were Polish before they were German) I consider a rightfull compensation (kind of war reparations) for German attack and crimes commited in Poland therefor in my opinion our claims in the East are still valid and we should never give up on them.

It is a beautiful city in western Ukraine, rich in culture, traditions, cafes, museums, theaters, cobblestone, chestnut trees, universities, 755 year-old history and beer tradition of 300 years to be celebrated in 4 years

Yeah,we know 755 year old POLISH history.

History / Why did communism in Poland fail? [180]

Communism, after all, was the Soviet Union's occupation of Poland as a puppet state

Ok,then the only logical answer to OP question is:Communism in Poland failed because Soviet Union failed.Right or wrong?

USA, Canada / Moving from United Kingdom to USA. Is it worth it? [136]

That would be having an airconditioner in the south.

Nah,it's not that bad.Last month I had AC running 24/7 and the total electric bill was $305 but AC is a necessity here.Oh ,and the AC unit is like 5 years old, with older one I guess the bill would be higher.

USA, Canada / Moving from United Kingdom to USA. Is it worth it? [136]

Las Vegas and Phoenix are cheap, cheap, cheap for real estate (provided of course you can get a job).

"Provided you can get a job" that's the key sentence. There is a reason behind real estates being "cheap, cheap, cheap".Can someone smarter explain to me how LV can be doing good when the whole US economy is in a toilet?

Of course I can only talk about Eastern Shore (DE,MD area) and here it is nothing like it used to be even 4-5 years ago.And I mean nothing.Wages offered are ridiculously low and employers expectations are ridiculously high.

In the US, even if you and your spouse have a minimum wage job you can live decent in the US,

What???Dude, tell me how can you live a decent life on $7.25/h (DE min wage)????Pack of smokes is $6.Who are you trying to kidd?

I was struggling as hell making $13/h and you are telling me that you can live a DECENT life on $7.25/h?Not without food stamps and housing assistance.Get a life dude my cable bill is $120/month.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

The school obtained a software that could simulate stock trading.

You are kidding or what?Have you ever traded any financial instruments?Give me a break. No simulation will ever prepare you for a stress in a situation where YOUR MONEY is at stake.Anybody can SIMULATE trading where no money is involved but try it with REAL, YOUR MONEY and you will quickly see the difference.

Life / $3,000-$4,000 a month - would we have enough money to live in Poland? [273]

Well,he has a point.People in Poland could learn a thing or two from Americans.Last time I visited Poland I opened and held the door for some Polish women. Now,in the US she would say "Thank you" and I would respond "You'r welcome" or "My pleasure" (If she was hot).Guess what, this Polish "princess" just walked thru without even looking at me and I was staying there in a deep shock thinking "WTF?".

History / Why did communism in Poland fail? [180]

I would say not only quality of butter has dropped but also quality of other food products dropped in capitalism or whatever we have now.Last time I visited my 50k people town there was only one place my mother was buying bread from.I didn't know it got that bad and bought bread from some random place. That stuff wasn't edible and mind you I eat only American bread daily. That stuff was that bad!

History / Why did communism in Poland fail? [180]

Well, my and my family's experience with "communist" Poland may not be the experience of an average Polish person since my grandfather started private enterprise in 1978.I think it is VERY IMPORTANT when talking about "communist" Poland to indicate which period you are refering to,because my for example grandfather started first private enterprise in "communist" Poland in 1948 and he was forced to close 2 years later but in 70's policy has changed and it was ok to have your own bussines though you were not allowed to hire more than 15 employees I think. Also like I already said it is ridiculous to paint opressive "communism" from early 50's and mild "communism" from mid 70's with the same brush.Talk to some old timers from former Soviet Union who visited "communist" Poland.I did and they were shocked about the number of private stores and enterprises in "communist" Poland. As for miners,Polish miners had it really good in "communist" Poland.

History / Why did communism in Poland fail? [180]

Lets just assume Poland was under communist rule from 1945 till 1988 and let you take it from there.....

I can not talk about 1945 because I did not live at that time. But I can tell much about period from 1982 and I can tell you that I did not experience much of the horrors you describing.I did not endure any opression nor fear either.True, there were sometimes problems with buying GOOD food,I remember waiting in line with my mother to buy Masło extra BUT I also remember big blocks of American salted butter nobody wanted in "starving","communist" Poland. My only encounter with "communist" police was when as a kid I stole a book in a book store (it was "Conan" btw) and I wasn't tortured or anything, they just called my parents to come to police station.

None of my parents or grandparents was any prominent communist party member,in fact only my father was an ordinary PZPR member but he joined only to get an apartament.Very nice,90 sq meters,1982 built apartament. In 1983 my grandmother who never had anything to do with communism and who's husband and my grandfather ran a private enterprise in "communist" Poland got a freshly built, big a$$ town house with underground garage and a small garden. She would never be able to afford this place in a "free" Poland considering that her only income was renta.Funny thing her next door naighbour was a prominent PZPR member and Wojewoda.Another funny thing is that from 1984 my father ran private enterprise and at the same time was a PZPR member.Travelling to "western" countries in 80's was not a problem either. All you had to do was to buy a trip wit Orbis,Gromada or Juventur. From my perspective "communist" Poland wasn't bad at all.

History / Why did communism in Poland fail? [180]

Financial considerations overpowered ideology.

Makes sense what the Jew is saying.I would only add that there was no reason for brutality while creating kibbutzes because I don't think the kibbutz members owned any land before creation of kibbutz.Someone correct me if I am wrong here.In Poland's case in order to create a PGR they had to first take the land away from farmers. There is a good reason for most of PGRs being located in western Poland.I remember an old joke when a farmer for some reason wanted to join communist party. He went for an interview and the comitee started asking questions to see if he really was a communist. So they asked him "Would you give a horse to collective farm?" the farmer says "I would",then they ask him "Would you give a cow to collective farm?" he says "I sure would",the comitee almost convinced that the farmer is a communist ask the last question "Would you give some chickens to collective farm?" farmer says "No way!".Surprised comitee ask him "How come? You would give a horse and a cow but why not chickens?" and the farmer says "Because I actually have some chickens".

History / Why did communism in Poland fail? [180]

to much state control
lack of food choice
lack of food
biased media
no internet
lack of holidays
not easy to travel to none communist countries
fear of establishment
no freedom of speech
everyone and no one was an informant
Russia was at the head of it
curfews
prisons
communist police
social startification
stalin was a murderer
it was forced on Poland

No internet?Hahhaa, tell me who had internet in 1988?Your whole list is full of crap.99,9% of you "westerners" know nothing about communism.I would start with the question WAS THERE EVER COMMUNISM IN POLAND?I DON"T THINK SO.Now,systems of SOCIALIST countries differed drastically in some cases though all were "communist".Another question is which period of "communist" Poland you are refering to?Because you simple can NOT lump together Poland from early 50's and Poland from mid 70's.Two different countries.Tell me how was Poland communist if only 15% of farms were collecivised compared to 90% in Czech Republic?Do you even know what communism is?Give me a break.

Language / Co słychać? Why not Co słychasz [23]

And what are you talking about now?Dude?I can call you dude, man, buddy, bud, pal, home, homie, fella, sir and mr.Lyzko.Who tries to look American? What does it even mean to look and act American???Give me break pal!

Who wants to be an American? Not me bud.Why would I even want to be one?If I could choose where to be born,I would go with Switzerland.WTF mr.Lyzko?

I just remembered, idiot that I am, that "słyszeć" may be from the same root in Polish as "to serve", like someone who is a servant, follower or slave to someone.

Pierdolisz Pan,panie Lyzko."To serve" is Służyć

Yes, but there also exists a verb "słychać" = to hear.

No it doesn't!The only "to hear" in Polish is Słyszeć!

Yes, but there also exists a verb "słychać" = to hear

Słychać is not a verb kolego Lyzko.Słuchać is!Anyway, in Polish verb Słuchać can mean to hear,to listen and to obey-słuchać się.

"Słyszeć" oraz "słychać" samo znaczają.

What do you mean by that? Can you give an exmple?I don't realy remember that stuff from the school so can't explain it to you like some Polish teacher or some PF members would but I am sure as hell that bezokolicznik(?) of Słuchać is Słyszeć not Słychać.

Love / Latest relationship drama in Polonia/USA... [39]

Man, you are ignorantelly (no offence meant) stereotyping people because of their ethnicity."Communism and embracing Capitalism" has nothing to do with the way they act.It has also nothing to do with them being Polish and you being American. We both know there is plenty of Americans driving cars they can not afford but they want to impress others. Some people are like that and you can easily find them among any and every nation.I tell you a story from my family. In 1978 in "communist" Poland my Grandpa started a small private company (you won't believe it but some people in "communist" Poland had private bussineses) and ran it with his 2 sons (my uncles).Fast forward to 1986 in still "communist" Poland, one of my uncles is driving 2 years old Mercedes Benz and the other Polish made FSO Polonez. They both had exactly the same income.Fast forward to 2010, Poland no more "communist", both of my uncles are milioners (in USD terms),one of them is driving 2009 BMW and the other is driving 1995 VW Passat.Do you think I am having a "cultural clash" in my family?I don't think so because they both Polish, more than that, they are brothers from the same father and mother. It's just that one of them likes to show off and the other don't give a ****.
