Travel / What do you think about hitchhikers in Poland? [33]

a place I go to ever year, an island, has a rule that everyone obeys - if you're in the car and see someone walking, you pull over and offer them a ride.

It can become a pain when you actually want to take a walk.

Except for his bad attitude, I don't understand why his lifestyle should bother you. Life is really quite boring when everyone fits the same mold.

In India, for example, there are about 5 million Sadhus, who renounce all their worldly possessions and wander around, relaying on kindness of strangers. Most people think they're there to pay for everyone else's sins (karma) and treat them with respect.

Life / Poles always ask how much money you earn. Why do they do this? [30]

I was surprised at how much of a secret the wages are in the US. Within a company, disclosing your wages can even be a cause of dismissal!

While it may cause some discontent among those on the lower tiers of the payscale, it may be beneficial to see how much the high earners get, compared to the work they actually do.

I, myself, don't think that our earnings should be such a taboo.

USA, Canada / Would like to move back to Poland from New York after living in USA for 20 years. [155]

I flat out disagree. I grew up in NJ. When people I knew lived in Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx/Staten Island/Harlem, they say NYC as well.

not true. When the say NY CITY, they mean Manhattan. Maybe the people you know wanted others to think they lived in Manhattan. Otherwise they say Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx/Staten Island, or just NY. I don't know about NJ, but in NY, when you say you're going to the city, you don't mean Brooklyn.

Love / help needed to warn off troublesome pole [25]

I've been told that when a Polish woman really sets her mind on something, she'll get it.
It could be that Polish men are such pushovers, though. ;)

Law / Question about bureaucracy in Poland. [13]

You have to make a phone call to utility company(ies).

That's not what I heard. You sure your mom doesn't make these arrangements for you?

Law / Question about bureaucracy in Poland. [13]

It's a sadistic tradition, doing it on a very last day.
Funny thing about EIC. I did my son's taxes, too, and he got back more than he put in. Essentially, the government took couple hundred of my dollars and just handed it to him.

Law / Question about bureaucracy in Poland. [13]

Yesterday I did my taxes. All the necessary paperwork was sent to me, clearly marked, I played some computer game for 20 minutes and voilà, taxes are done. 28% sucked to the government, to spend however they please.. but bloody well done!

I realized that one of the things that makes me nervous about Poland is her bureaucracy. I don't want to play head games with some drone to get a stamp anymore. That would seriously lower my quality of life.

Are things getting better over there?
Can you pay all your bills electronically?

Life / Polish culture do's and dont's? [106]

Here is a pretty amusing run-down of Rumanian customs that apply to Poland as well. I think.

Love / Prevention of child abduction by Polish mother. [232]

I've known, or known of the women you're describing. You've said it youreslf, it all starts with good intentions. And then, when the relationship goes to sht (for some unknown reasons that are most in dispute here), some of them have to get tough, or end up on walfare. We're not talking about jetsetters here I presume. Maybe going back to Poland is not such a bad idea. I was just wondering where the disdain for the "clan gathering around her" comes from. That's the first place you should go when you need help - family. Don't you agree?

I still can't figure out natasia...
Are you, by any chance, in love with a man that is pining for his children in Poland? Would you tell me if I was close?

Love / 6 months with my Polish girlfriend and I still don't understand her.. [208]

As long as being ambiguous gets the desired results in the relationship, a person will keep being ambiguous.
It's got nothing to do with gender, or nationality. It's a stupid game, both sexes do it, to keep the other one trying harder.

It also means that they prefer ambiguity in you, so make yourself more mysterious, pronto! ;)
Or don't put up with it and teach her how to communicate directly.

Love / Prevention of child abduction by Polish mother. [232]

Somehow, I doubt if you bothered to read much or any of it.

I don't think anyone does, Zimmy, but bitter, lonely guys. Anyone subscribing to this alpha male crap should have their head examined. I skim about every 10th post you write, hoping that one day you'll start reading something more intelligent, and you always disappoint.

jeez, natasia, that is just as bad of a scenario as the abuser one! Now we have two extreme possibilities.
(and as with most scenarios, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle).
In my mind, I have some questions about your scenario as well.
Doesn't every girl want to meet prince charming, get married and all that?
Is it possible that the relationship went to sht and some of these women take the stance you've described to save face? Like "that's what I wanted anyway"?

And all these catholic Polish grandmas are a part of this insidious plot?
If that's what the woman wants from the beginning, wouldn't it be easier to just go to a sperm bank?

Genealogy / Being ashamed of Polish ancestry? [156]

I was curious, were you talking about Poles, as in Poles get drunk before going out and you are ashamed of that?

I didn't really analyze, it's just at that time, I really didn't want to admit I was Polish. My point was, I think, that logical or not, our actions often do represent a particular group we 'belong' to. Poles were a minority there, but the definitely drunkest and most embarrassing.

Dear Lord, that dude just loves the attention, but sure as hell doesn't pay any.
Anyway, TL;DR.. ;), at a glance he seems to be saying same things over and over, no surprises there.
Patrycja, voice of reason, thanks! ;)
