News / Polish Mom claims daughter got pregnant from swimming in pool! [162]

This is the report that is a big hit on all odd news forums all over the world.

Mom claims daughter got pregnant from sperm floating in pool

A Polish woman has filed a lawsuit against an Egyptian hotel after claiming her teenage daughter got pregnant from using the pool.
Magdalena Kwiatkowska claims her 13-year-old daughter conceived from a stray sperm floating in the hotel's mixed-sex pool after she took a dip, the Sun reports. The hotel was not named.

The teen returned to Poland from holiday expecting a baby. Kwiatkowska said her daughter did not meet any boys while she was in Egypt.
Tourist authorities in Warsaw confirmed the complaint. The mother is seeking compensation from the hotel.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

i must say that after such an enterprise they should be gratefull for Polish tolerance.

When will you suggest that Poles should receive some compensation for their tolerance to Jews? :):):):)

Now comes an exaggeration that even I have to say NO though you know my compassion for Jews. :):):)

haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1090024.html

Poland and Ukraine resist restitution of heirless Holocaust property

Just three weeks before an international conference on Holocaust assets, Jewish and Eastern European delegates are still debating whether countries like Poland and Ukraine should give back heirless property that belonged to murdered Jews.

While those countries have opposed restitution of property whose owners left behind no heirs, Jewish representatives of the Holocaust Era Assets Conference, scheduled to open in Prague on June 26, say such property should go to Jewish organizations in lieu of heirs.

Comment:
said David Peleg, "We don`t agree with this assertion."
Your brothers in the Israeli Knesset certainlly agree with this law, especially when it comes to Palestinian property. Why should Poland and the Ukraine be any different?

And why should Poland and/or Ukraine give Polish/Ukrainian property to a "world" organization when it could be used for Poles/Ukrainians? Maybe Israel should give away lots in Tel Aviv to Iran. Huh?

Yeah! Sure!

haaretz.com/hasen/objects/pages/ResponseDetails.jhtml?resNo=4889426&itemno=1090024&cont=2

or

justice can`t be selective. If restitution/ compensation is right for you, then it has to be right for me too.
Many Palestinians in refugee camps still hold the keys and deeds to their property in Mandate Palestine.
So we say to them tough luck but expect Poland and Ukraine to do the right thing?

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

Let me ask you again, moral judges of Poles, would YOU risk your children lives to save a Jew?

It was a hard decision, especially that every neighbour of yours could be an informer, for financial gratification or out of malice.
Did you read Medaliony excerpt above? Why does nobody help the wounded Jewish woman? There wasn`t any SS, gestapo or blue police around the site for many hours.

People weren`t scared of Germans as much as they were scared of each other. And that is the greatest reason why so few Jews were rescued from Holocaust in Poland.

As for answering your question, nobody knows what they would do in such a situation. But knowing my compassionate nature, I suppose I wouldn`t be able to refuse help. With God`s guidance, everything would end happily.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

Few of the biggest falsities being sold by the Jews is that all Poles were nothing but nazis, were all szmalcowniks and allowed the Gerries to build the camps actively helping them with that task.

If you read more such articles as this one, about Polish peasants in southern Poland who, for gratification, actively helped Germans round up Jews for Holocaust, you may understand why today Jews have such opinion about Poles.

przeglad-tygodnik.pl/index.php?site=historia&name=121

The misinterpreted history is deeply imprinted in the Polish conscience. The poll results prove my point: wyborcza.pl/1,76842,4898613.html - The most popular belief is that many Poles rescued Jews while the few oppressed them.

Do you know Zofia Nałkowska`s Medaliony?

Przy torze kolejowym - By the railway track:

chomikuj.pl/krask/Polish+literature+in+English+translation

A Jewish woman escapes from a death train but gets wounded by guards. She stays near the track, nobody helps her. Finally a young man shoots her out of pity.

Excerpts:

She was alone when he found her. But slowly people started to appear in that empty space, emerging from the brick kiln and village. Workers, women, and a boy stood fearful, watching her from a distance.
Every once in a while, a small chain of people would form. They'd cast their eyes about nervously and quickly depart. Others would approach, but wouldn't linger for long. They would whisper among themselves, sigh, and walk away.
The day was white. The space open onto everything as far as the eye could see. People had already learned of the incident. It was a time of terror.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

We can deabte if it was enought or not ... but no body has done more.

The problem is that an average Pole tends to extend the 6.135 Righteous` heroic deeds over the whole Polish nation.
The truth is that most Poles remained indifferent and many were glad that Jewish problem was solved by Germans. Only a few helped.

Elsewhere, Bartoszewski has estimated that between 1 and 3 percent of the Polish population was actively involved in rescue efforts;

Some estimates put the number of Poles involved in rescue at up to 3 million, and credit Poles with saving up to around 450,000 Jews from certain death.

These are lies that Easy Teran was asking for. Poles didn`t rescue 450.000 Jews.

Who you are ?

:):):):)

And you? Do you think that by taking part in this Polish discussion you will hide your true identity???? :):):):):)

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

Antoni Słonimski
(1895-1976)

Elegy for Jewish townships

They're all gone, gone from Poland, the little Jewish shtetls,
From Karczew, from Hrubiszew, or Belz, for example,
Vainly you'll search the windows for little lit candles,
And strain your ear for singing from old wooden temples.

The last remnants have vanished, Jewish rags and scraps, all,
Blood with sand covered, traces all smoothed, and at least
One coat of greyish whitewash made cleaner each wall,
As after epidemics, or for some great feast.

Shines now here one moon only, strange, cool, and pale-yellow;
Past the town, on the highway, when night's shadows fall,
My surviving Jewish kinfolk, poetic young fellows,
Will not find now the golden two moons of Chagall.

Those moons now encircle a different planet,
They have flown now, scared off by the silence grim-dour,
All these townships are gone, with their shoemaker- poet,
Clockmaker-sapient thinker, frisseur-troubadour.

All these townships are gone, where the biblical hymns
The wind joined with songs Polish and sad Slavic tunes,
When old Jews in the orchards sat under a quince
As they wept over holy Jerusalem stones.

All these towns are now gone, they have passed like a shadow,
And between word and word this dark spectre is lain,
Till they meet up as brothers, for new union ready,
The two nations now nurtured on centuries' pain.

Life / Why is cheating at schools in Poland accepted?! [155]

Free, in one of my class books there is a nice text about British teenagers setting fire to their schools.
The court never bothered to pose the question as to why so many young people take the drastic step of committing arson, let alone why they so frequently target schools. Instead, Robertson railed against the "calculated, pre-planned wickedness" of the boys. On average, three schools a day are set on fire in Britain, with only 15 percent of these believed to be accidental. Schools are at a higher risk of arson than any other occupied buildings; only sheds and barns fare worse.

Life / Why is cheating at schools in Poland accepted?! [155]

As a teacher who has been working for 18 years in various types of schools in Poland, from primary to higher education, I can tell you sth based on my experience:

It's true that some students try to cheat, but no more than 5-15%.

It isn`t accepted by most teachers when they work as teachers, but it is accepted by most students and their parents, even teachers themselves.

The percentage should be reversed: about 5-15% students don`t cheat.

If so, let's see, how this 'cheating in schools' looks in some other countries:

That is different cheating, it refers to copying from the Internet mostly. But Polish students` cheating is more cheeky and complex, it also includes copying information from illegal sources during tests/exams and copying homework, at least in my work. Read this about Polish students` invention.

Post some research or stats that there is problem with cheating in Polish schools!

What for? Real life teachers are telling you sth.
Besides, do you think that Polish educational authorities will deal with such shameful statistics??? :):):):)

What do I do during tests in class?
Students sit at seperate desks. They must remove everything from the desk, even pencil cases. They mustn`t communicate, they mustn`t have mobiles, they mustn`t turn back. I never sit down, I always stand to have a better view. I never leave my eyes from my students. My failure to remain attentive throughout the test usually result in students trying to communicate.

Well, it may seem strict but we don`t treat it this way. It is like a game. :):):) They attempt to cheat and I try to catch them.

Look at the girl in the last row. She is peering at her neighbour`s paper. :):) because he was using an electronic device throughout the test. It didn`t help him, he failed.

for example when you guys quit thinking that your education system is unbeatable and that all Poles are smart simply because of being Polish.

Polish education system has many flaws but its main component is Polish students who are just great. Even with cheating which is prevalent in schools, Polish students are far better than Western ones - more intelligent, knowledgeable, with many interests. :):):) If not for Poles, Britain would have fallen long ago. :):):):)

And we are not arrogant. Who told you such *********? :):):)

Life / Why is cheating at schools in Poland accepted?! [155]

The problem is that they are almost expected to learn at home.

And that`s the way it should go. School hours are not enough to master the whole material. If a student wants to get to an elite school/uni, he/she must swot a lot at home.

If such an attitude like yours is prevalent in US or UK, then I know why Polish students do so well there. :):):)

I hardly think that it is right that the working day for adults is eight hours, but the school day, plus homework, can be longer.

Come on, school lasts from 8 am to 2 pm, about 6/7 lessons a day, each 45 minute long, with breaks in between. It is nothing. :):):) Plus homeowrk, it certainly isn`t more than 8 hours.

Even if it is, competition in the market is hard, those who aim at jobs better than a taxi-driver or shop-assistant must learn.
The problem is that many students don`t care, prefer cheating, and they only wake up when they finish school and get the first lousy wage for their menial job. Then such students organize demonstrations or strikes and demand better life but it is too late. :):)

LOL, you just justified cheating...that's funny!

How do they know, they dont "learn" they cheat!

Even brilliant hard-working students cheat.

pawian:
Polish primary students learn things which are taught in American or British high schools, and so on
Where is your evidence?

There are hundreds of stories on the Net or by word of mouth.
Polish students who migrate to America or Britain are considered stars or aces in schools there.
And the other way round too. One of my students who had spent a few years in US school, with many successes, with head teacher praising her extensively, was a mere E/F student in my class. There was even problem with her passing to a higher form.

So, if the US principal wished to have all his students like the Polish girl, while I was wondering how to tell her parents she might not pass to another form, it means sth. :):):)

Kids in poland get too much homework. The educational system must be reformed in such a way that kids will be able to do most their work in the class room. Quality vs quantity.

No. Homework is beneficial for students. :):)

Life / Why is cheating at schools in Poland accepted?! [155]

I have seen many threads on here....how to improve Poland etc...well start by stopping the cheating culture~!

Yes, it should be stopped but it is too deeply rooted in Polish culture. If you know Polish history, with multiple occupations and foreign domination in the last 300 years, you should understand why Poles still see cheating as sth normal. It was one of their methods of self-defence- cheat an occupant.

Besides, the material to learn in Polish schools is beyond the capacity of an average student. It is commonly known that Polish students do things which in Western schools are done in next type of school, e..g, Polish primary students learn things which are taught in American or British high schools, and so on.

It is no wonder that having so much material to master, Polish students resort to cheating.

Read more: elt.britcoun.org.pl/elt/forum/code.htm

There is a deeply grounded conviction among Polish people that our problems with honesty and cheating are of historical origin. One source of this behaviour might be seen, as presented by a Polish cultural sociologist Żygulski (1975: 221), in Catholic patterns of upbringing. By suggesting a disregard for all earthly property it has not promoted order in social life nor care for one’s rights, as opposed to the Protestant belief that individual development and care for earthly property is a way of promoting one’s future salvation.

Some Poles also think that it might be the famous right of liberum veto (allowing any member of the 17th century Polish Parliament to break a parliamentary discussion for no stated reason) which promoted bad, undemocratic habits among lawmakers. This unfortunate right was one of the reasons for the Polish partitions which lasted for 123 years. During this period people tried to avoid or break the various rules imposed by Russians, Austrians and Prussians who ruled Poland at that time. The same situation happened during communist times after World War II. The communists created laws for Polish people, who then broke them and in this way opposed the foreign power, the Soviet Union.
