News / GERMANS WANT TO GERMANIZE KOPERNIK (COPERNICUS)! OUTRAGE! [1016]

This conversation reminds me recent talk about Malaysian plane shot down over Ukraine. People in radio were saying that it won't be possible to say weather Russians, Ukrainians or Rebels did it. It's so because it's not very obvious who is one of them. There are Ukrainian soldiers who deserted and became rebels, there are Russians with Ukrainian double citizenship. Even if some Russian admitted that he did it, Russia could say that he's not their citizen...

Law / Can you examine goods before paying courier in Poland? [4]

Looker is right. Courier may not want to wait for you opening the package, but he has to, as in case of damage you need his written statement that the damage was caused during transport. I am not sure weather you can open package before paying to courier.

News / China-Poland railway - but why Łódź? [8]

This train will not improve £ódzkie economy, because it's too small scale. The amount transported is tiny in comparisone with seaport in Gdańsk and I've not heard it gaining more popularity. Quite opposite. I've heard that they had to postpone opening of this track few times, because couldn't find minimum number of clients.

USA, Canada / Best way to send thousands of dollars to Poland into a bank account. Paying a bill. [6]

- Someone will need a Power of Attorney over your Canadian accounts back home if you want to physically be in Poland and receive the money.

What about online banking?

-DB charges 250zl (I believe) each transfer out of the account to other banks

wow, that's not cheap at all, but if you intend to exchange your CAD to PLN in currency exchange office, then you should be able to withdraw cash for free and carry it to Kantor.

News / Credit Union - the future of co-ops in Poland [4]

Merged: Bankruptcy of Kasa Wspólnota (a credit union of Poland)

Kasa Wspólnota is one of Polish SKOKs - credit unions. Last year they were included under supervision of KNF (Financial Supervision Authority) and deposits were insured in Bankowy Fundusz Gwarancyjny up to 100 000 eur. Now KNF has found out that Kasa Wspólnota has too many bad debts and cannot function any longer. On 18 July this SKOK filed for bankruptcy.

Cooperative Unions - Credit "Community" goes bankrupt. Is a model example of how over the years the National Credit unions under the current Law and Justice Senator Gregory Biereckiego " heal " the financial situation of Kas.

On Friday, the Financial Supervision Commission , which exercises supervision over Kasami today announced that attempts to heal the financial situation of the Community credit unions have failed . The activities of the Fund has been suspended , and soon the court will be filed for its bankruptcy . This is the first such decision in the history of the Co-operative Savings and Credit.

I don't remember when some bank bankrupted last time in Poland.

Law / I lived in Poland for 5 years then had studies abroad - should I apply for permanent residency or citizenship? [12]

I think that you should have done it before leaving for graduate studies abroad, because one of conditions for permanent staying permit is that you've been staying and working continuously for 5 years in Poland. You broke the continuity by leaving the country. Requirements for citizenship are even more strict. But I would suggest you to ask here: migrant and perhaps consult an immigration lawyer.

Work / I am currently working in Dubai and have an opportunity to move to Gdansk, should I take it up? [25]

Look at this ranking from 2011. Add maybe 10% to what you see there, as salaries slightly increased in past few years:
hays.pl/cs/groups/hays_common/documents/digitalasset/hays_465124.pdf
Look at the column "Woj. Pomorskie" as this is Tricity region. Page 6 is Banking. "Najczęściej oferowane" means median or mode.

Some random:
HR Manager median: 10 000 gross.
Stock Market manager: 13 000 gross.
Tax Manager: 18 000 gross

Net salary is around 2/3 or gross.

Work / Opening new college of computer science in Poland - how can I find lecturers? [13]

The article which you link is few years old. Now median salary of professor is around 4300 net according to: [wynagrodzenia.pl]

How much earns a professor in Poland?

Monthly salary (median) of a professor in Poland is 5727 PLN . Earning 50 % of professors range from 4662 PLN to 7400 PLN . The premium is on average 4 % of the total salary of professor , while 96 % are basic wage . Some professors also receives benefits earnings professors were described in the full report.

Details about how much he earns on the bench professor also allow you to evaluate the salary and remuneration in science and education .
Our respondents come from all Polish . Person communicating to us working in Warsaw, Krakow , Lodz, Wroclaw, Poznan , Gdansk, Szczecin , Bydgoszcz, Lublin , Katowice, Bialystok , Gdynia Czestochowa , Radom Sosnowiec , Torun , Kielce , Gliwice, Zabrze, Bytom, Rzeszów, Olsztyn, Bielsko- Biala, Tychy , Opole.

But they usually have other sources of income than just salary, so this article, says that professors in Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika were earning total (with all extras) 5600 and 9000 pln net. And some of them work in private university during weekend and get extra money there.

It would have to be min 2 x more to convince somebody to go abroad, and 4 x more to convince to go to Iraq (life at risk).

Work / I am currently working in Dubai and have an opportunity to move to Gdansk, should I take it up? [25]

People in Poland are generally friendly toward foreigners, but of course the closer culture, the easier. And it would help if you looked Caucasian, even better if you were christian. For example some Indian guy who works in £ódź (IT I think) was complaining here that he cannot befriend anybody.

Although many people have bad experience with Gypsies, so it's better not to look like one. Some Indians could be mistaken with them, so it doesn't help.

Also Tricity area is quite touristic. But foreign tourists are mostly Germans and Scandinavians.

Work / Opening new college of computer science in Poland - how can I find lecturers? [13]

, in other country us, uk , russia, okrain killing happening

but not in Poland, so why would IT PhD leave to Iraq. Moreover PhD in IT can easily find good payed job in the industry in Poland, or for much more money in the west. Try Ukraine, but even there you would have to offer min. 2000 eur net + free accommodation I think.

Work / I am currently working in Dubai and have an opportunity to move to Gdansk, should I take it up? [25]

Dubai very expensive for going out, restaurants etc - and a lot more temptations than in Poland to spend money on...

Of course. But then there is a dilemma weather to restrict temptation and save. In Poland there is no such, because you start with less money at the beginning :)

I just had an opinion that working in Poland for an year or two could add some value to my Resume. Could you please clarify on this if possible.

Usually the higher GDP per capita the country has, the more prestigious is experience. But even more important is the company you work for, than country. In this context if you had the same job position in similar prestige company from Dubai and from Poland, then I think Dubai counts slightly better. It's simply because Dubai is not outsourcing country and low wages Poland is.

Further I was told that hey also sponsor some educational expenses does it include ACCA or LAW courses ? Do the Employers in Poland generally provide return travel tickets to Expatriates once a year so that they can travel back to their home country ?

We don't have so many immigrants in Poland and most of those who are here work in business processes outsourcing, so they don't get much extras (no tickets back home), as the positions in Poland exists to cut costs. In highly specialized positions, as yours, I guess that you have small space for negotiating extras.

I have one more thought. What do you get for your income taxes in Dubai? Because in Europe it's free education for your children and free public health system. If it's not free in Dubai, then it's plus for Poland. If it is free, then rather minus, because I imagine Dubai having better quality hospitals.

Work / I am currently working in Dubai and have an opportunity to move to Gdansk, should I take it up? [25]

If you intend to spend all your earned money locally, then it seems that your salary, even that 50% of what you get in Dubai, will have similar purchasing power in Poland. Except if it's the most expensive Polish city - Warsaw. Because:

Consumer Prices Including Rent in Warsaw are 39.58% lower than in Dubai according to:

And in 2nd most expensive Polish city: Consumer Prices Including Rent in Krakow (Cracow) are 47.14% lower than in Dubai:

If you want to save some money, then you can save more dollars in Dubai. There are also not material factors. For example if you are Muslim and like hot and sand, then you will feel better in Dubai, than in Poland.

Law / I have overstayed my visa and been banned from Poland. Is leaving Schengen zone and coming back a solution? [10]

I would suggest you to be out of Schengen now anyway, because they must be able to find out when you leave the zone (central registry for all Schengen countries) and if you haven't left yet, then could give you a negative answer. Moreover when you will be leaving Schengen they may have in registers information that you were once caught and ordered to leave within 30 days, what you ignored, thus give you even bigger penalty.

Btw. why have you been crossing borders if you knew that your visa is expired ?
