Life / Worlds most liveable cities (Krakow or Warsaw don't even hit the radar screens) [104]

Monia
uSwitch ranking is rather reliable ranking

Yes, uSwitch is entirely reliable. Proof of this comes from the title of their article "UK worst place to live in Europe: Quality of Life Index": in reality their own table shows that the UK is not the worst place to live in Europe and that Ireland is the worst place to live in Europe. Or at least it is of the ten EU countries which they bothered to analyse.

net income, VAT and the cost of essential goods, such as fuel, food and energy bills, were examined along with lifestyle factors, such as hours of sunshine, holiday entitlement, working hours and life expectancy

And of those:
net income UK 365% higher
VAT Poland 30% higher
hours of sunshine Poland 2.5% higher
holiday entitlement Poland higher but data clearly unreliable and so it's hard to make an accurate assessment
working hours Poland 11% higher
life expectancy UK 4.5% higher
Meaning that Poland wins one of the above slightly and one by more and the UK wins all the rest. But somehow uSwitch thinks Poland has the better quality of life!

And almost any idiot knows that prices mean very little unless purchasing power adjusted.

Travel / Mosques in Krakow? [131]

From your complete refusal to make any attempt to debate the issue and your complete reliance on ad hom insults, it is evident to us all that you very simply can not debate at all. Thanks for making it so crystal clear. Now, as you have nothing to add to this discussion, perhaps you could sit quietly while the adults talk. Thank you.

Islam has a long way to go.

And your proposed solution to that is for non-muslims to take a backwards step. How eminently sensible.

Is the company which prepared above ranking reliable , the company that stands at odds with the law?

Tut tut! Yet again you accuse people of breaking the law; it's only a matter of time before that foolish policy of yours gets you into very hot water.

Monia
This is more reliable company than Mercer by all means undoubtedly .

Really? Is that why they claim that the net average monthly household income in Poland is 3,137zl? The Polish government tells us that the average gross wage in Poland is 3,466.33 zł. So either the Polish government is getting something rather wrong, or a British energy trading company is. I'm shocked that a Pole would ever take the word of a British energy trading company over that of their own government!

Travel / Mosques in Krakow? [131]

Bottom line, would you rather be a) A Muslim in a western country? b) A non-Muslim in a Muslim majority country?

So by your logic it's OK for a man to beat his wife provided that his neighbour beats both his wife and his kids. Nice.

Travel / Mosques in Krakow? [131]

Muslims have been living in Poland since the 14th century. They fought with the rest of the Polish forces at the battle of Grunwald and have earned their Poland in our country. Sorry that bigotted idiots think otherwise.

EdWilczynskiSo Saudi Arabia is a country full of racist bigots?

No, but it certainly is run by such persons.

Ironside
There shouldn't be Mosque in Krakow. Get it out of there!

Yes there should be, if people who live there want one. The only people who should get out of Poland are racist bigots who besmirch the good name of Poland.

Could the mods please note that I clearly am not calling Ironside a racist bigot who should get out of Poland: he has already left Poland.

History / Today is the 1st of September (WWII start in Poland) [138]

Merged: 1 September

Tomorrow, 1.9, is a very important date in history. Can you tell me why? And if you're really good, can you tell me me where and when?

Not where most people think it did.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

Would I? Actually, I can't vote in Scottish elections - if you live abroad, you're automatically disqualified from voting. I won't even get to vote in the independence referendum.

And you can't vote in British ones after year years out of the country (or did they change it to ten?).

Language / Simultaneous translators in Poland [5]

Any way around that or does anybody know any agencies that might be more commercially astute ?

I do know a few translators who would certainly agree to such a test. Why pay an agency who'll take a cut when you can just go direct to the translators?

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

Pay taxes in Poland for just a single year and be able to vote? Hell no! Make it a five year minimum for either residency or tax+ZUS contributions before people can vote here. And also remove, for life, the voting right of people who had Polish citizenship and then took up other citizenship: nobody who has renounced their allegiance and/or loyalty to Poland should ever be let inside a polling booth in Poland!

Work / Job opportunities with Hungarian-Swedish-English languages in Poland? [51]

currently in Krakow, and I'm looking for an English teaching position (TESOL/INTESOL certified). Would Wroclaw be a better area to start out ... or any other city/town?

Krakow is the worst city in Poland to get a teaching job in: absolutely anywhere else will be better. Your major problem is that you don't have a CELTA (or equivalent) and thus lack the main thing which Polish schools want. Sorry but your INTESOL certificate isn't worth the paper that it is printed on; any school which will employ people who have only that type of certification will also employ 'teachers' who have no qualifications at all. On the bright side, now is by far the best time of year to be looking for a teaching job.

UK, Ireland / Polish eligibility to claim benefits in the UK [30]

I think she actually might be able for benefits, maybe housing support, employment search benefits,

No, she hasn't worked at all in the UK and is therefore entitled to exactly bugger all. Just as she should be.

No I want a box with "English". That would suffice.

So write one on there and then tick it.

Would you want to be other if you were a Pole in Poland?

I frankly couldn't give a shiit what ethnic group somebody put me into.

History / Has Poland ever participated in any big wars (except WW2)? [73]

Piłsudski send a note to Masaryk asking for negotiations

Why negotiate what had already been agreed. And Pilsudski's word counted for very little (see for example the sham mutiny which he ordered).

the response on Czech side was- occupation of Spis and Orawa, than attack on Śląsk Cieszyński,

No, it was to demand that Poland ceased the election planning.

which was a breach of 5 November agreement

The one which Poland had already breached on 6 November.

what would you do delphiadomine?give zaolzie(important for Czechoslovakia only for economical reasons) to Czechoslovakia?

Perhaps negotiating a settlement would have worked? Although Poland would then have had to live up to the commitments it made in the settlement agreements and experience shows that Poland was pretty terrible at doing that between 1918 and 1939.

Poland agreed to give Zaolzie(were majority was Polish)

Do you have any links to anything which in any way supports any of that? Or did you just pluck it from the air?

History / Has Poland ever participated in any big wars (except WW2)? [73]

Only a person with strong antipolish bias would accept that as a valid reason for Czech invasion of Zaolzie

So Poland acting contrary to her treaty obligations and refusing all requests to act in keeping with them should have resulted in what? Poland was told to stop doing something she had promised not to do or face specified consequences: Poland chose to face the consequences.

Czechoslovakia was a greedy, hostile state that couldn't be trusted

Perhaps we could compare the number of treaties broken by Poland to the number of treaties broken by Czechoslovakia?

History / Has Poland ever participated in any big wars (except WW2)? [73]

Actually you're lying, no big suprise there, Czechs used polish sejm elections as an excuse to invade

So we agree that Poland's elections should not have been organised in the disputed areas and that because of those elections Czech forces entered the areas.

we know you share Rabbits anti-Polish sentiments already.

And we know that you are an American who pretends to be Polish.

History / Has Poland ever participated in any big wars (except WW2)? [73]

Czechs invaded polish territory twice, in 1919 when Poland was fighting Ukraine, Russia and Germany

Actually Czech forces requested that Poland observed the terms of the interim agreement which Poland had signed. And Poland was fighting neither Russia nor Germany at that time.

Funny how your version of history somehow omits the two Polish invasions of Czechoslovakia in 1918.

suddenly when all of her armed forces are elsewhere Poland finds itself assaulted without cause or provocation

No cause other than Poland deciding to exercise sovereign rule in disputed territory which it had agreed it would not exercise sovereign rule in. And it was most certainly not sudden: Poland was given more than enough notice with regard to what would happen if she did not keep to her word.

it was unreasonable of Czechs to expect no retaliation

You mean that it was unreasonable of them to expect Poland to keep her word? Well, on that we would agree, given the number of treaties which Poland broke in the years 1918 to 1939.

Travel / Getting from Krakow to Warsaw [99]

So I'll be in Warsaw soon for school and was wondering how the public transportation is. I know driving is brutal.

Public transport in Warsaw is pretty good. It is better to stick to trams where possible as the buses often get caught in traffic. Driving is not that bad when you get used to it but the traffic jams are getting worse and worse.

There's an excellent website for planning journeys (all in English too) warszawa.jakdojade.pl/?forcebrowser=true&locale=en

Work / Graduate Certificate in TESOL - respected by potential employers in Poland? [17]

It seems that there are no two ways about it: I'd better come to Warsaw and do a CELTA.

The problem with doing the CELTA in Warsaw is that at £1,050 it's a fair bit more expensive than doing a CELTA in Katowice (£749) or Wroclaw (£799). Details of those can be found here

Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.

And there is a 99.99999999999999999873129999% chance that you made up that particular 'fact'.

Work / Graduate Certificate in TESOL - respected by potential employers in Poland? [17]

I do find it quite hard to believe that it would count for nothing.

A non-CELTA course doesn't always count for nothing but it very simply puts you immediately at a disadvantage to candidates who do have the CELTA: a prospective employer has to decide whether they want to either research the course you did so as to check whether it is any good (which will take them time and offers no real guarantee anyway) or to take the risk that your course is not Mickey Mouse (given the number of rubbish courses out there, it is risk) or to simply hire the next best candidate who has got a CELTA.
