Language / Wesołego Alleluja or Wesołych Świąt? [30]

I have never heard any person use Wesołego Alleluja in any setting in person to person situations - Wesołego Alleluja is just a print fancy thing (or a clergy speak after the mass)

During my 7 years in PRL-Poland, Wesołego Alleluja was used quite often in Wrocław and Zielona Góra where I spent most of my time.

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

Hmm, thank you guys, but I have never been showered with so many compliments before. I am a bit suspicious - I smell a hamster. Why are you praising me? Do you want to borrow money? Go to bed with me? Or else?

Now that you mention it.................;)

History / Wrocław's Train Station: Not A Happy Place. [39]

Yeah not many good times to be had at that place.

Funny you said that using those words. In my day, '79 - '85 ( I know, I know - ancient times), the place was always very clean save for the WC. That place always smelled very, very bad. no beggars though......During martial law me and my friends had AK-47's pointed at our bellies during a document check. I'll never forget that one. I still remember the look on the baby-faced soldier face when he realized he had stopped westerners. It looked as if he was slightly ashamed.

Language / Baby Sayings in Polish - Only know part - need help [6]

A, a - kotki dwa,
szare, bure obydwa.
Nic nie będą robiły,
tylko dziecko bawiły.
Jak sie kotki rozigrały,
to dziecinę kołysały.
Jeden szary, drugi bury,
a ten trzeci myk! do dziury.
Żeby tylko jeden był,
toby z dzieckiem mleczko pił.

many versions:

Kosi, kosi łapki pojedziem do babki, pojedziemy sami, najpierw konikami, a wrócimy potem wielkim samolotem (przy konikach jakby się wodze konia trzymało a przy samolocie rozkłada się rączki szeroko)

Kosi kosi łapki, jedziemy do babci, a od babci do taty, tam jest piesek kudłaty

Kosi kosi łapki pojedziemy do babki, babka da nam mleczka dziadek cukiereczka

kosi, kosi łapci(ki)
pojedziemy do babci(ki)
babcia(ka) da nam mleczka
a dziadek ciasteczka

Law / Poland has too much redtape [14]

Take a look at this series of pictures by Dutch photographer Jan Banning and think about Polish reality:

Very funny! Did you see all the pipes and bongs that narcotics agent had collected?

Work / 22 yo white American studying abroad in Poland, looking for some information. [11]

I spent a year at UJ (Jagiellonian Univ) and I thought it was great. That was a long time ago though. The place has some cache' around Europe as opposed to some other places. I also spent 6 years in Wrocław and am in love with the town. There was an extra benefit to graduating from there in my day: many German institutions recognize the place as their own.

Either place is a good choice. If you can you should come and visit Wrocław and see for yourself. Being so close to Berlin is a big plus!
