Love / Maintenance for child born between Irish/Polish parents. [60]

Don't know anything about the Polish law and don't know the full story here and there're always two sides to each story. If true, your ex-boyfriend is an embarrassment to all us men! What kind of father would ever say something like that? Very sad, hope he comes to his senses, apologizes and that the two of you come to a mutually accepted solution. Wish you and your baby the best.

Life / Things we enjoyed as kids in Poland [140]

Pszczółka Maja (Maya the Honey Bee):

I loved pszczółka Maja!
...and Tytus cartoon
...and "cztery pancerny" (sp?)
and "gumę Donalda z obrazkami" LOL
...and "moją dziewczynę" w pszedszkolu who kept wanting to "show me hers if I showed her mine" while we were taking afternoon naps... LOL

Oh, the good 'ole days... :)

Travel / Can I use an unlocked US mobile in Poland? [5]

Don't know about Poland but I have an extra, unlocked iPhone and use it all over the world by buying local sim cards. I have Chinese, Philippine, Korean, Australian, etc. sim cards and change them when in need. Don't do it often as skype on my regular iphone works pretty well at most places and almost every cafe, etc has free wi-fi. However, i use it when in need, also it helps for "local" friends to get ahold of me, for example i had a Thailand layover and a buddy of mine who owns a motorcycle shop and lives there could call me for free. iPhone uses the standard GSM technology.

There are many prepaid sim cards all over the net...

Language / How similar are Polish and Romanian languages? [75]

Very few similarities as Polish is a Slavic language whereas Romanian belongs to the Romance family of languages. However, with the internet and the multi-cultural society many words are nowadays fairly similar. Also most languages have borrowed Latin (especially Romance languages) and Greek words into their vocabulary.

News / Poland sends firefighters to help Russia [67]

Is that important now?

No it's not, it was merely a reply to Seanus who was emphasizing Rychlik's point. As I said I'm glad Poland chose to help.

News / Poland sends firefighters to help Russia [67]

Ain't killing innocent children in iraq despicable?

What about Vietnam, Korea etc etc

America in one picture :)

Go ahead a spew out your venom on a different thread, you can even start a go-to-hell-America-thread - plenty of those here.

This thread was about helping Russia fight fires that have killed many people. I thought it was admirable that the Polish government sent some help and felt the comment by rychlik was wrong. You on the other hand had to spew out your typical hate garbage just because you felt like it. No fan of Russia but helping out here is at total no-brainer. Not sure if the US did or not but hope we did.

Rychlik's comment reminded me of some Palestinian and other Arab citizens celebrating the collapsing towers in New York. No matter what disagreements we all have, celebrating events or condoning events where innocent people die is simply wrong. If you feel like attacking America (again) please start another thread.

Soon you should be able to get your own section, if not get your own domain -> WorldAccording2David_18.com

That was a good decision but rychlik has a point in that Putin has to put more on the table. He cannot forever plead territorial jurisdiction as Poland has a greater interest factor in a true outcome. International relations has and will always operate under the maxim, 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours'.

America and Russia need to show it more to Poland.

Absolutely but Putin is a totally power-hungry moron and no one will change that. The help was for the Russian people and not for the Russian government.

Sad to hear this. Let them burn for not helping Polish people in the Warsaw Uprising. I hope the Polish firefighters sit on their a'sses across the river and let Moscow burn.

Not a friend of Russia but what you said is despicable.

Love / Possibility of Marriage with a Polish lady [96]

i know that may seem weird or impossible but that is not so out of the norm in the middle east.

Yeah, I was being facetious, I fly into Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait and some other "non-existent" :) places fairly often.

That's kind of what I was implying -> you looking for a virgin then you better be a virgin yourself or you're a hypocrite. Don't care if you're a man or a woman, European, American, an Arab or a Persian - treat others the way you want to be treated yourself.

I'm sure he is a nice guy, he seems to be, I was just emphasizing my point.

Unfortunately I've seen the kind of sexism and racism that would make any ACLU or N.O.W. member have an instantaneous heart attack. What's sad is watching the Indians, Pakistanis, etc. being treated like dirt and many women like possessions.

It's their countries and their rules but it's pretty amazing once you leave the Western hotel areas.

I've also ran into many East European women over there (but also British, Dutch, French, etc.) and often I want to say hello and maybe even get a chance to practice my Polish or if they're from a different country to simply chit-chat, that's always very interesting.

However, most of the time they're there "to make money" and I'll have none of that, have never paid money to be with a woman and never will. It's pretty sad to watch the spectacle in nice bars and hotels, like a human cattle trade; of course sex-trade exists all over the world, it's just the sheer amount of it over there, especially in Dubai that's overwhelming.

Listen to this PBS story, pretty sad and I've seen it with my own eyes. It's about Moldovian girls but I've seen ladies from all over the world over there, sometimes it makes you ashamed as a man. I apologize if I'm ruining shekofte's thread and maybe I should post this somewhere else because by no means am I implying he has anything to do with that. This is just a sad state of affairs all over the world and it's very prevalent in some Middle-eastern countries.

Love / Possibility of Marriage with a Polish lady [96]

There are plenty of virgins in Iran, right? I'd say the veil so many wear keeps them "safe".

The fact you care so much about her being a virgin is worrisome. At 27 are you a virgin yourself? If so, will you stay a virgin until you find a virgin wife? That's only fair, wouldn't you say?

A

You seem like a nice guy and I sincerely wish you the best and hope you will find the lady of your dreams whether she's Polish or not. I also hope that you will treat her exactly the same way you'd want to be treated. I'm not singling you out because you're a muslim or an Iranian, this of course applies to all men, myself included. Your preoccupation with a woman's chaste and virginity is somewhat perplexing to me, that's all.

PS.
There are many beautiful women in Iran. Neda, the student your government killed was gorgeous.

History / United States of America Vs Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth [74]

So who does the taxes benefit if not the rich?

Change the percentages into dollar figures and you'll see it benefits the "poor". I believe in the same tax percentages for everyone no matter what your income is. You think it's unfair to those who make less? So do I and I encourage them to change jobs, get additional education, etc. Revenge taxism is wrong. I'm biased because I make good money but I believed the same when I used to deliver pizza to pay the bills.

Nationwide sales tax (not VAT) could be an additional tax revenue -> you want to cut your taxes? Don't buy the item.

I know my concept is hard to understand to an ardent socialist.

Travel / Any PRACTICAL advice for a new visitor to Warsaw? [29]

I'm taking my first trip to Warsaw and Lublin Poland next week. Any practical advice for a Polish-American female, on her first-time travel to Poland?

Wow, virgins are so rare nowadays... :)

No advice but would love a detailed summary of your visit to the father-, I'm sorry, to the motherland.

I'd like a Yankee perception of Poland, yes Kalifoornians count as Yankees. ;)

(Well, just please don't take any clues from that Aussilady who went to see "Danzig", Poland (sarcasm smiley if I had one).

History / United States of America Vs Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth [74]

Instead of insulting my IQ maybe you can discuss with me like a normal person.

Ok, well that wasn't fair, I agree, can't change it now so let's say the IQ comment magically disappears or is aimed at the ideology of communism/socialism. In my view you don't understand the whole premise of this country, how government control was the main reason America rebelled, you make up stuff based on your own ideology and your own leanings and call it "the truth" and yet you throw out those crazy statements such as our taxes are too low, etc. I say they're way too high and 90% of all federal employees should be fired, the government should handle the military and very few essential services. That's it! If there's ever a risk of America's demise it'll be due to "big brother," big government mentality ideas such as yours.

History / United States of America Vs Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth [74]

Yeah, the American taxes are embarrassing low LOL! I thought for a while you were talking about your IQ? Your Mockba influenced knowledge of economics and history hardly makes any sense, instead it shows how incredibly limited an apparatchik's thought process is. Keep spewing your hate into your wishes of America's demise if it makes you feel better. ...but hey, at least you don't call us a fascist state, it's very much en vogue here on PF nowadays. Amazing how communists and socialists like to use their fellow socialist term for everything they disagree with. So I guess it's a progress and it's official - our demise is now gonna be like the Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth's demise. What a relief, thought it was gonna be like the third Reich's demise...

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Arlen Specter's disproportionate election loss to a relatively unknown candidate, some say was partly due to his so called Polish jokes that voters didn't forget.

Huh? You can't be serious. He lost because people finally figured out what a scumbag and a weasel he really is. Good riddance!!!!!!!!!!

you on the other hand have "almost 20 years in the US.....and am yet to hear an American tell me a Polack joke" so one must wonder where you derive your comparison from.

Well, trying to be cordial here so I'd appreciate if you refrained from calling me dude. Mr. Dude however is very ok. :) Dude, I'm totally kidding here. ;)

My point is that you've chosen some very mellow redneck jokes and pretty mean "Polack jokes". Yet I've heard some very mean and demeaning redneck jokes and I'm sure there are some funny, innocent Polack jokes.

I personally don't feel very engaged in this issue because I think it's way overblown. At the same time it seems to bother you and some others here and although I disagree with you, I do respect you being upset over what seems to be important to y'all. I just think it's silly when some members here (not you) exclaim that those jokes must originate in America because they represents the "typically American sense of humor." Talk about being judgmental...

I'll butt out of this discussion as I honestly don't have many feelings or thoughts on this subject. In my view it's a storm in a glass of water viewed through the magnifying glass of "us versus them" mentality.

Just to lighten things up:
A Norwegian airplane was getting ready to land at Stockholm airport. The control tower contacted the pilot and asked for his current position. The Norwegian pilot seemed surprised and didn't answer. So the tower repeated the question: "Please report current position." The pilot finally understood and replied "well, I'm right here in the front seat, ...as I always am..."

Q: How do Norwegians forge ten crown bills?
A: They scrape one zero off a hundred crown bill."

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

They share some similarities, but they are not the same.

Listen, I've heard the same or similar jokes about Arabs, blacks, blonds, while living in Sweden about Norwegians, etc., etc. To have a joke paranoia is simply silly. This is a pointless discussion as many here have this preconceived notion of some kind of anti-Polish bias when it comes to those jokes. It's ridiculous but hey, y'all believe whatever makes you happy. If thinking that people are out there to get Poles by making jokes about them - by all means go ahead and believe that...

I can say the same thing about other nationality jokes. None of them are like polish jokes...Actually I think that polish jokes can't orginate from Europe. They represent typically american sense of humor, certainly not german.

Are you certified in the knowledge of the American humor? Does it take a certain degree to figure that out? Because I've lived in so many different States here for so many years and find that many of the jokes you hear in the Southeast for example are the very same jokes you hear in the Northeast but now poking fun at the other side.... Rednecks versus Yankees, etc., etc.

Next time you hear a Polish joke (and I never do) just smile and move on, stop blaming others and you'll live longer.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

not really, man. redneck jokes and polish jokes are completely different.

Nope, Chicago Pollock is spot on. Both are insider jokes who one way or the other turned mainstream. While Polish jokes are almost extinct nowadays (almost 20 years in the US, have lived in numerous States and am yet to hear an American tell me a Polack joke) the redneck jokes are very prevalent.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Take a good look at how vicious Americans can be as soon as they perceive a comment as personal attack on them, no sense of humor whatsoever. Read some of the comments made by your compatriots on this very forum, then we can speak of who's guilty of what sin.

I wasn't looking at the us versus them comparisons, I simply agree with pgtx that Polish jokes, something other Poles came up with generations ago to make fun of themselves and lighten up the mood has become such a sensitive issue. Unnecessary because they're so rare to begin with.

PS. You quoted pgtx's words under my name. My quote would've been:

Yeah, I think you're right

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

Amen, finally some common sense here. The Polish Joke sensitivity is just silly.... Poles making fun of other Poles and getting pissed at the world for it... ;)

America looks at Poland as just another country in Europe, that's all. From the military perspective I do know that the Polish Special Ops are very well regarded, heard it myself from our green berets and 101st Airborne soldiers. I've had the privilege of getting to know a few of those guys and am a proud owner of one of those patches...

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/POL_Wojska_Specjalne.svg

I've lived in America for almost 20 years now and have lived all over it, Southeast, West Coast, Northeast, Alaska and Hawaii. I'm yet to hear a Polish joke from an American. Black and Mexican jokes? Sure pretty often, Polish jokes? Nope. Maybe if I lived in Chicago but I haven't.

PS. Are we not allowed to post pics anymore here on PF?? I noticed that no matter what I do the url creates an arbitrary space in its address here preventing posting of the photo??

"Why are the Italians and Polski so much alike?"

I have a question regarding the title... If Allison meant to combine English and Polish when asking the question wouldn't the proper question be "Why are the Italians and Polacy so much alike?" Or "Why are the Italian bambinas ;) and Polki so much alike? (if gender specific).

No critisism whatsoever but the word Polski in that question throws me off. What am I missing?

Well, can you blame him? Mexican food is delicious, no doubts about it...

Must be the British way of spelling things. I was rooting for a name ending in a "y". :)

Po polsku / Wymowa polska nazwisk na Wyspach Brytyjskich? [15]

I disagree with you. I hate, hate, hate (did I mention I hate? ;) when a CNN, MSNBC (yes I watch enemy news too), etc reporter speaks with a perfect American accent only to end by saying This is (with a strong Spanish accent) "Alexandro Guiterez" reporting from New York. Wtf, the guy is born and raised in America and all of a sudden has the need to pronounce his name in perfect Spanish? Hypocrite

I'm proud of my heritage and will happily help people with spelling and even the proper pronounciation of Polish names if they're curious but in the daily life will always pronounce Polish names the American way because I live in America... When I finally make it to Poland I promise to pronounce them the Polish way and will butcher all American names using the Polish grammar. Until then Kaziijusko it is... :)

W Ameryce mówimy po Angielsku i w Polsce mówimy po Polsku.

Travel / Passenger plane converted into restaurant near Katowice, Poland [21]

is it realistic though? do you have the child behind you kicking your seat??? :)

Well, no screaming kids that we could see but it's pretty realistic ...and I should know as I'm very familar with the airplane. It's a 747-jumbo classic meaning an older version with analogue gauges as opposed to the digital 747-400 version.

A while back shortly after the hotel opened up my ex-wife and I stayed in the cockpit suit, wanted to give her a taste of my daily life. The service was good although we didn't need anything, we were pretty much to ourselves while there (3-day stay).

I think it was a neat experience for us both and it was certainly the first time ever I got to sleep while in the cockpit lol. Well, those few moments when we actually slept... ;) wonderful memories...

I guess my point is that I find it amusing a person on a Polish forum complains about the way Polish names are pronounced in the UK (or US for that matter). I mean really? Who is Ronaldzie Reganie? His name is/was Ronald Reagan yet the Polish language allows for this butchery of non-Polish names and I'm totally ok with it since it's Poland we're talking about and they should pronounce all names the Polish way.

At the same token we should be able to pronounce all names our way whether in the UK or the US.

PS. Tony Bleer should be pronounced Tony Blair ;)

Love / Ideas For A Good Gift for my Polish girlfriend [16]

Hi,
My girlfriend of 6 months returns next week after being away for over 2 weeks. I would like some present ideas.. Can anyone help.

Turn her getaway into hers and yours getaway - whether it's at your house or if you can afford a 24-hour getaway at a cute, romantic hotel where you take her by surprise, spoil her, let her talk and tell you everything about her trip while you give her very nice, sensual massage or even treat her to a nice spa for the two of you, a side-by-side couple massage. Nice candle-lit dinner, soft music, a cute gift, make her feel like a real princess and years later when she's recalling her two-week she'll remember the way you made her feel, being pampered by you the very most... Have fun... :)

Meant to say:

...and years later when she's recalling her two-week getaway she'll remember the way you made her feel upon her return, she'll remember being pampered by you the very most... Have fun... :)
