For the simple reason that these fortifications were build in the most convenient way of advance - for logistical reasons. A Heavy equipment and all those details. :)

Anyone know why the Germans didn't just advance around it and leave a siege force to wait them out?

BB you lost the war to Soviet Russia and the all your beef about expelled you should address to Russians as the real shakers behind the territorial lost for Germany.
Regardless what actually happened to people from said territories, criminal and bestial manner in which Germans were governing occupied country's,made them for ever lost any moral ground to ask for anything. You can only blame yourself, really.
I don't know much about the way the museum is or will present history of the expels -but if they try to shift the blame on Poles - they should be shot really !

jeszcze jedno - jak ktoś wyraża się jak burak, to wszystko gra jak długo zgadzasz się z nim/nią - a nich tylko ktoś z kim się nie zgadzasz wyrazi się jak burak to zaraz jest brutal i faszysta!
tego właśnie nie lubię u nikogo!

A czy nie przyszło wam do głowy, ze nie tylko Polacy tu zaglądają, a może ktoś chciałby się nauczyć języka polskiego, albo rozumie na tyle polski by śledzić rozmowy?
Jakie świadectwo dajecie o Polakach? Zastanowił się jeden z drugim?
Chcecie się wyżyć macie okazje w sekcji angielskiej, tam jest tyle gierek, układów, faworytyzmu, ze naprawdę można i tak mała strata.
Tu jednak moglibyście wziąć na wstrzymanie - ćwiczenia jakieś lub pigułki!
A szczególnie ty McCoy - jak jesteś spokojny, to nie masz usprawiedliwienia.

This is a hell of the statement, could you elaborate please or I'll be forced to agree with plk123(horror:)).
Poland needs to give up the past and look to the future. If they would have done this after the Polish-Russo war in the early 1920's they may have been better prepared for WWII and just maybe avoided the 1940's Polish holocaust.

By the same logic, Lithuania, Bielorus', Ukraine, Czech and Slovakia should have received nice chunks of Poland for waging the war multiple times against its neighbors.
