USA, Canada / Sending money to Poland from the USA? [48]

WU is pretty easy to use. I'm making use of them for the 2nd time in the last couple of weeks and the procedure is simple.

Food / Polish Duck Soup [117]

Forget the blood part, I'd love some duck soup with proper Bombay cuts :) :)

Coming from a MD, LOL. You guys at the top tend only to be about putting as much in your pockets as you can. Me? I'm a teacher and settle for less, give to charity and claim no benefits. I was only saying that I understand the mentality of those that take benefits as not everyone can be an MD. Now who has the mentality and reality problem? I don't take from anyone else, they take from me. ZUS at 890PLN being a prime example. So, you were saying?

Food / Fishy Kiełbaski! [9]

I've seen such a thing but they could be classed as bizarre. Still, worth trying :) :)

Food / Fishy Kiełbaski! [9]

A fishy sausage? There's a joke there but it's too early to tell it ;)

In all seriousness, I think the LSD might still be having an effect as that's just bizarre!! Then again, I've tried sausages with cheese here so...

Work / Englishman seeking non teaching work asap - to stay in Poland or ..? [37]

When you lose a teaching job, it can be really tough to set yourself up again. Not that I have but I can well imagine. I'd also go home as the harsh reality is that it's a dog-eat-dog world and you ain't gonna get into Polish places without Polish. Even sweeping leaves is for a Polish worker.

UK, Ireland / "If it's not Polish, it's shite" - What is great about Polish Beer in UK? [78]

Poland has some really good beers but, for me, the tastiest Ukrainian, Slovak and Czech ones are higher quality. I'd much rather drink Obolon, Zlaty Bażant and Budweiser Budvar than any Polish beer. The general quality of beer here is good but I've tried many international beers (sth of a hobby) and Polish ones wouldn't feature in my top 10.

Simply put, many Poles have a tendency to overrate their products but if they like it......

Love / Any suggestions for wedding venues in South of Poland [28]

For normal people or for VIPs only? Isn't it too risky to have weddings there with many drunks stottering around and collapsing into the pictures and skiting along the ornate rug floors?

Love / Any suggestions for wedding venues in South of Poland [28]

I don't think they do weddings in Pszczyna Castle but if they do, it would be a truly fantastic venue :) Worth investigating that option!

More realistic is in Chorzów, the Bathory part I believe. My wife's bro had his wedding there in Aug 2007 and it was a spacious hall for around 100-150 guests. Lovely food and a nice dance floor :) :) The band that played was really good too.

News / The cross in Polish parliament - Does it bother you? [100]

Olaf, it wasn't off-topic at all. I was trying to get you to comment on the nature of a dead man and how you found it creepy. Martyrdom is central here. Was Jesus a martyr or not?

I think Jesus would prefer to see fish and bread :) :)

Original sin? That's a dangerous and downright erroneous concept right there. This is where Protestantism fares much better than Catholicism IMHO.

News / The cross in Polish parliament - Does it bother you? [100]

But that dead man, in the eyes of many religious folk, saved us all. Now we moan about the concept of martydom but Jesus essentially started that so why can we have cause for complaint when Palestinians do it for a noble cause?

Olaf, the RCC will get in and about in any which way it can. It's their way to spread their tentacles into every nook and cranny of Polish life.

Yes, I see the difference. Jesus Saves in the eyes of Christians :) :) Still, the cross can be used as a RIP symbol. You are blessed with life so can be blessed before the afterlife, as some believe.

As Bill Hicks jokingly said, though, do you really think Jesus wants to see a cross upon his return as the Divine Messiah? ;) ;)

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

It's pretty much what they are prepared to pay. Corporate work should pay much more than regular teens classes.

UK, Ireland / Websites for Poles to benefit from Britain! [210]

Rozum, because swamping is what GB experienced, simple. Mass influx, deluge, pick your word. The meaning is pretty much the same. Swallow is not swamping ;)

Carrie, true. Those offices are horrible places to be.

UK, Ireland / Websites for Poles to benefit from Britain! [210]

You have to read it correctly. For me, I believe that Britain has to accept a little bad with the good. There are positives to MC life and it has been part of our national fabric for quite some time. I've said this elsewhere. However, I personally don't believe there should be any swamping. It drains resources, especially when much of the money generated goes back to home countries like Poland.

My point, rozum, was that the geopolitical goons wanted swamping, not me. Umbrella control becomes so much easier then. The only thing I've "swallowed" is what they are up to.

I am not the only one to find that the British benefits system doesn't give a hang for its own people most of the time. They went out of their way to pander to newcomers. Of that I have no doubt. Britain was meant to be swamped.
