Real Estate / Cost of room in Warsaw? Where to look for accomodation? [31]

Do you think as a Chinese it is more dangerous to live there? By the way, What is the general view to Chinese among Polish people?

As a Chinese you will be probably mistaken with Vietnamese. There is big (over 20 000) group of Vietnamese living in Warsaw. They mostly sell some Chinese products in small shops. I think Chinese are considered peaceful and hard working and they are not usual target of racism. But search better for saver neighborhood if you're not Caucasian.

Study / How good is Politechnika Warszawska? [33]

According to rankings and opinions the best are: Politechnika Warszawska, Uniwersytet Warszawski, AGH in Kraków, Politechnika Wrocławska. If you want private school, then only one has good reputation: Polsko-Japońska Wyższa Szkoła Technik Komputerowych (Warszawa). Those schools are good mostly because top students go there, but it doesn't have to be the case when you want to study in English.

If you want to come here, then don't do that for university, because they won't be better than best Turskish (especially that you want to study in English). If you want to stay later in Europe, then it is some option for you. Study time will count (in 50%) to 5 years period after which European Permanent Permit is granted. With Polish graduate diploma you don't need work permit and search for job in Poland.

Travel / Baggage size limit on Trains in Poland? [16]

Transport of items (including baby carriages)
A passenger holding a valid ticket can transport - free of charge and as hand luggage - objects which are easy to move and possible to be kept above and under the space occupied by this passenger (including also a disassembled bicycle, a folded baby carriage and one pair of skis).

What items can be transported upon payment of an additional fee?
1) objects which are easy to move, but cannot be kept above or under the space occupied by the passenger - PLN 5.10 per piece;
2) unfolded pram (it should be placed in the first vestibule of the first car or in the last vestibule of the last car of the train) - PLN 9.10 per pram,
3) one non-disassembled and unpackaged two-wheeled bicycle (detailed information can be found in the "Transport of bicycles" section).

Objects placed in cars cannot pose a threat to the safety and order of transport, cause nuisance to other passengers or cause harm to their property.

Real Estate / Cost of room in Warsaw? Where to look for accomodation? [31]

I've never lived there, only passing through. I think there are more beautiful places in Warsaw:
Google Maps: Tadeusza Korsaka 6, 03-744 Warszawa, Polska
(and turn on street view)
As for location, it's not the worst if you want to use SKM (city overground trains), because it's very close to eastern train station.

Statistically it doesn't seem much more dangerous than any other place:

but here on the other hand Praga Połódnie belongs to one of more dangerous neighborhoods. It shows number of crimes with use of weapons in 2013 per 10 000 citizens:

Personally I wouldn't like to live there, as Praga looks ugly. And as for safety towards foreigners it depends weather you're Caucasian or not.

Study / Where I should study journalism(in Poland ) [32]

Well that was wrong because everyone studied it, and the bubble burst, and at the end of the day.

Maybe you don't know, but in Eastern Europe and India it is the big thing right now. There was nearly no IT industry here when 2000 bubble was bursting. And even in USA it's very easy to get an IT job right now and salaries are above average. Also most of desk jobs now are in front of computer, many of them far less creative than for example programming.

Anastasia - at the end of the day, you will likely be unemployed or with low salary - so follow your heart ;)

Studies are just 3 years. It is possible to predict where will be easier for a job in 3 years time.

AnastasiaKK

Stop smiling all the time, because you make appearance of a crazy person )))

Study / Where I should study journalism(in Poland ) [32]

Maybe I can study Bachelor degree in Poland and get a Master degree in other country if there are no job prospects..

As somebody mentioned you cannot be a good reporter if you have no interests. Currently press moves to the internet so you can write to some blog, web-portals, vlogs. There are quite a view people earning money in that way. But still you must have something interesting to say, not just major in journalism. Don't go this way Anastasia!

Moreover you cannot simply change country, as you need to know the country's language on native level to be a writer. Native knowledge is something what very view can achieve. (except of people born in given country)

Study / Where I should study journalism(in Poland ) [32]

No job prospects at all?But I know that Poland has TV and radio and magazines etc)))

But we have just few big TV stations and newspapers and thousands of journalism graduates every year. So it's thousands of graduates + people who haven't graduated journalism but want work in this business + all graduates from previous years who finally want to get their dreamed job vs maybe 50 serious job openings per year.

Real Estate / Cost of room in Warsaw? Where to look for accomodation? [31]

Try not to shock people, but it's generally hard to rent something from private people through the internet. When you'll be there it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't look like some stereotype.

Study / Where I should study journalism(in Poland ) [32]

There are no job prospects after this major. You may want to study it if it's your hobby and have rich parents. It's hard to say what is better, as you want to study in English I guess.

Travel / Buying Train Tickets online - I'm going to Poland soon [18]

Download this app if you want to travel around Poland. It covers more means of transport and buses are quite competitive to trains in Poland, as trains, because of many renovations, are quite slow this year and buses are also cheaper.

Language / Advice needed for learning Polish Language [41]

Here you have a list of Polish language courses in Tokyo:
tokio.msz.gov.pl/en/bilateral_cooperation/education/language_courses/tokio_jp_a_181

Basically in learning languages the most important is strong will and regular work for few years. If it's your first foreign language, then I don't know if it has sense to start learning it completely by yourself. Check if you can attend classes in some school and if yes then start learning additionally by your own at home.

Also Polish language is useful only in Poland, so it doesn't have much sense to learn in if you don't plane to come living here.

Life / Poland no Unemployment benefits after paying taxes for 20 years [41]

That's a total of 12,000,000PLN. You are saying that after earning that much, he really needed to go on the dole in Poland and there was no savings?

Nobody said so. How much he was earning is irrelevant, because it's each worker right to get benefits after loosing job. He was paying 20 years taxes for that.

Life / Cost of living in Wroclaw (rent price too) [119]

how long does it take for the work permit to come and for how long is it valid for?

I guess (really only guess) that it takes 1 - 3 months and work permit is for 1 or 2 years maximum. It's for only this specific employer so you would need a new one when changing job.

Life / Poland no Unemployment benefits after paying taxes for 20 years [41]

So why didn't anyone try to get in touch with me after 3 months to see if I was still here, or working or whatever?

but I wrote why:

But as I said up to now I've heard that only Netherlands is considering using this law to throw people out.

Because most of countries don't enforce this law or only in single cases.

You understood it wrong. Poland will let you in, but can throw you out after 3 months if you don't prove to have savings or find a job. But as I said up to now I've heard that only Netherlands is considering using this law to throw people out.

Pointless though, as an EU citizen you have freedom to move between the EU states.

Not exactly, because you can have your right to stay in other country for longer than 3 months revoked if you don't meet some conditions. For example in Germany you must prove to have enough money to provide for yourself and have German health insurance. I've also heard Dutch saying that they'll be deporting EU immigrants who will not find a job in 3 months. Regardless of Schengen you can still be banned to enter any EU country.

europa.eu/legislation_summaries/justice_freedom_security/free_movement_of_persons_asylum_immigration/l33152_en.htm

The right of residence for more than three months remains subject to certain conditions. Applicants must:

either be engaged in economic activity (on an employed or self-employed basis);
or have sufficient resources and sickness insurance to ensure that they do not become a burden on the social services of the host Member State during their stay. The Member States may not specify a minimum amount which they deem sufficient, but they must take account of personal circumstances;
or be following vocational training as a student and have sufficient resources and sickness insurance to ensure that they do not become a burden on the social services of the host Member State during their stay;
or be a family member of a Union citizen who falls into one of the above categories.

Law / Residency decision letter vs residency card and Poland Visa D [9]

Similar information you have here: forummigracyjne.org/common/files_download.php?fid=151

From my knowledge 3 years is Possible, provided you're married to Polish citizen.

I needed 2 months to complete the span of 5 years to get Permanent resident card.

Read the paper in my link, because 5 years is not the only requirement. You must also have a job when applying:

The permit (Zezwolenie na pobyt rezydenta długoterminowego WE) is granted to a foreigner, who, immediately prior to filing of the application, has been staying in Poland for at least 5 years continuously and legally and who has:

- a stable and regular source of income sufficient to cover the costs of maintenance for him-/herself and family members, who are dependant upon him/ her;
- health insurance as defined in the legal provisions on general health insurance or confirmation of coverage by the insurer of costs of treatment within the territory of Poland..

So you have no choice, but become employed.

Life / Poland no Unemployment benefits after paying taxes for 20 years [41]

No he didn't. I know both Joe and Ed (the journalist who wrote the story) well.

This journalist writes in tabloid style. He accuses Poland for discrimination of foreigners:

Under EU law, Poland has the same obligations to foreigners as Britain does.

But the fact is that any person working in Poland who would fail to meet the deadline would loose the right to benefits.

If he was fair he could write about absurdity of such deadlines, but then it wouldn't be a good topic for the newspaper, because British are not interested in details of Polish law.

Life / Poland no Unemployment benefits after paying taxes for 20 years [41]

It's his fault that he first tried not to be a burden to the state?

I think that he can go for social help now if he is completely broke, maybe will get warm soup. And yes it's his fault.

No he didn't. I know both Joe and Ed (the journalist who wrote the story) well.

But he must have given consent to publish his story.

@Ufo: Have you read this article? The gut didn't know the law and is surprised that applying too late can cause loosing benefits:

"They told me that, basically, in order to qualify for benefits you have to register as soon as you lose your job.

This shows how the Poland's welfare & social benefit system (ZUS) is a failed system

No, that shows that the guy is an idiot. It's his fault, but he went to press in order to complain.
