Polonia / Should Poles help Germans organize protests demanding free media ? [136]

@TheOther: NOT, faith BUT reality! I know the place, the people, their language, the situation, the system. In second tours, people ALWAYS vote for whomever is against Fhaine! They vote for the "moins pire" (litterally, the "less worse") and fhaine always lose. What is fhaine? A fascist party funded by former waffen ss now officially financed by ... Russia (they love Putin ;)). Le pen father tortured a lot in Algeria and is proud of it and made a living in the 1950's selling records of ... nazi music. He has become a billionnaire through frauds (Lambert's inheritance, also including Montretout Castle where the whole family lives (and fights a lot ;)), was condemned several dozens of times by justice for tax and other frauds (right now, investigations re their campaign funds), violence (he lost one eye while fighting inside a church...) and for his countless pro-nazis and antisemitic and racist comments.... All these are LEGAL facts and not made up stories in YouTube or in garbage tabloïds.

As to their "program": only simplist slogans "let's get out of EU!" "let's get out of Euro!" but of course they never say HOW. They have NO economic program other than a pale copy of JL. Mélanchon's anti-capitalist party. They NEVER talk about economics and whenever they are asked about economics while being interviewed, they always change the topic. Who votes for them: 1. the fascists 2. the ultra catholics - 1+2 = a tiny minority of their electorate and in the country and 3. and mostly, the uneducated (fhaine has only 17% of post high school diploma holders) and frustrated because lousy jobs or on welfare. The older ones used to vote for communists but now they vote for fhaine as they believe in cheap charlatans. Populists know how to talk to simple minds...

Saying that most voters could switch to Fhaine is pure ignorance of situation and also insulting voters. No, the huge majority of voters and the huge majority of the population do not share fhaine's "values", they strongly believe in democracy, human rights, freedom and equality for all, so nothing in common with fhaine.

In Poland, I suppose the closest would be Korwin-Mikke but fortunately voters even if not always coherent will never vote for the worst evil! Korwin-Mikke and consorts have no chance either in Poland.

No chance for the evil! ;)

Work / Is it possible to work whilst studying in Poland? [20]

@Kenny: the problem is that Mickey Mouse BS schools in Poland calling themselves "universities" but whose diplomas are worth nothing, including in Poland, attract 3rd worlders with BS programs in some pidgin English and tell them that they'll be able to find employment while studying in Poland. Said 3rd world "students" are either so stupid or so desperate (or both) that they believe anything as they want to enter EU. With their enrollment to said Mickey Mouse BS schools, they apply to Polish consulates for visas and here they come! Since of course they cannot find employment (they don't speak Polish, they have no skills and let's face it, Polish employers won't hire people from ... Bengladesh or the Philippines...), they don't attend school and then sneak into Germany or move westwards. Classical scenario! Whoever says they'll find employment is dishonest because it is not true.

I don't understand why Polish consulates issue visas so easily.

I studied in the US and I know hundreds of people of all kinds of nationalities who have studied abroard, in all kinds of countries so I know what it takes to be issued student visas.

Maybe Polish consulates in 3rd world countries should be informed of real situation or they know and don't care since said "students" move westwards shortly upon arrival in EU.

Absolutely, Kennyboy! I don't understand why Polish consulates don't react this way! If people have no money, how the h..ll can they study, eat, pay rent, buy books, etc.......????? Yes, no money, no school, no visa! ;)

Geez! How many of such messages are we to get? What is wrong with those guys? How the he..ll can they expect to find jobs in Poland to finance their studies? They come here and of course can't make it so they sneak into Germany and elsewhere. However, it's Polish autorities" fault, they should not issue visas UNLESS concrete proof of money.

Polonia / Should Poles help Germans organize protests demanding free media ? [136]

@TheOther: The dynasty has tried for 50 years and has never made it: logical since 1. at least 80% of the voters are democrats and tolerant 2. Fhaine (pronounced like FN with "haine" = hatred) has NO program (simplist slogans are no program) 3. at least 80% of voters prefer to stick to what they know ("on sait ce qu'on quitte, on ne sait pas ce qu'on trouve" 'we know what we leave behind, we don't know what we'll find ;)) and don't want to take risks to have a civil war. 4. all democratic parties always get together when necessary to beat fhaine and 5. and Conclusion: The crooked family (living in a castle (Montretout in Saint-Cloud, west of Paris) and hiding their millions in Swiss banks (cf. justice, not "YouTube" ;)) shall never make it and they know it. They all have big mouths and bark a lot and those who are uneducated, frustrated with their lousy lives buy whatever bs. This is called POPULISM, DEMAGOGY when "leaders" say what the lowest people want to hear. This is so everywhere but fortunately majorities in at least democratic countries don't buy cheap garbage from charlatans....

In Poland, this corresponds a bit to Korwin-Mikke and maybe to Kukiz!

PS: How do I know? Simply because I'm French and I know France and French political situation ;)

@Crow: what is your f...g obsession with your intermar thing???? Nobody does speak about it in Poland (and elsewhere). I suppose that in Serbia you guys are as much brainwashed as they are in North Korea. I feel like vomiting when reading (now I don't any longer) your 24X7 propaganda. I also supppose that kids are brainwashed from birth on and that there is no opposition (killed or at best, in labor camps) in Serbia. Unbelievalbe!

Polonia / Should Poles help Germans organize protests demanding free media ? [136]

Read yesterday (in several French speaking media) that Schauble is thinking about a EUROPEAN (so Poland included) tax on gazoline in order to finance refugees. Already last summer, Merkel and Junker mentioned it but media did not do a big deal about it...

Although I believe GENUINE war refugees must be helped, I am 100000000000% AGAINST Merkelian policies of taking in ANYONE with no control whatsover, which include (potential) terrorists, criminals, crooks.... . I'm wondering whether Germans will keep her till end of this year... The woman is really sick...

For me, what happened in several German cities and in some other Northern and Central European cities on 12/31 is a true form of terrorism (since of course planned, what the jerk Germany uses as a minister for Justice had a hard time to believe, otherwise how could such acts take place at same time, in same manner in several places????). Unfortunately, German and other Northern/Central European women have not received much support internationally! As a woman, I have been hurt....

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

I don't follow situation (no time and not interested) but I don't believe foreigners living in Poland should be involved. I'm sure they would not tolerate Poles or others to demonstrate and fight against their governments so why doing so in Poland? What about if Poles (or others) dared demonstrating/fighting against Cameron (or others), how would Britons (or others) react?

Sorry, but foreigners even when paying tax (my case too) should not plot against and destabilize any government.

@TheOther: le pen family are no more than big mouth billionnaire crooks (check re Lambert's inheritance, ;)) who NEVER will be elected since no way they can make 50.01% (= all other parties always get together to vote against them) at a general election.

Work / Salary for a senior tester in Lodz? [4]

No way to "live" on 5,300 ZL for a family of 3 so let's not even dream about traveling around in neighborhoold countries ;)! 5,300 ZL means a comfortable life for ONE person in Poland. For 2 persons, it's getting rough.... I know that most Poles have to manage often with 1/2 of that but as we say foreigners don't live like Poles (different buying habits, no family network...) and also what's the purpose of living abroad in poverty?????

No need to travel from the other side of the world to end up in poverty in a very ugly and rundown city and freeze one's a... for several months a year + facing xenophobia and racism (to be expect by non whites)!

If not MINIMUM 10/12,000 NET, not worth it.

If you are good at your job, try to find something in a western country! Since you speak English, try for instance the US!

Life / Water in Warsaw in mid-January 2016 or .... 1916 [10]

"Alleluja"! Water on as of last night but has the "awaria" been repaired for good! If so, still unbelievable, leaving people without water for almost 5 days in Central Warsaw. I had never seen this before but now I know it is a reality in Poland so I'll always keep dozen of bottles of water handy. Shame on those water company officials!

Life / Water in Warsaw in mid-January 2016 or .... 1916 [10]

No, Doug, it has nothing to do with "d..ed landlords" at least in my building. The "awaria" happened in a nearby street and in order to fix it, they have to turn water off in a larger area). It seems very serious and they don't seem to know what to do (scary). People are getting really mad.

Not paying czyncz would not help because it would hurt others than the water company.

I know that some years ago while building the (2nd) metro line, some gaz pipes were damaged by workers and as a result residents of said area were offered to stay at a hotel ;). If on Monday night, no water, I'll demand a hotel room.....

@Jardinero: sure there is always worse and trust me, I had my fair share of problems (death of my husband, of my parents, then I had cancer) so no need to look at what happens in the 3rd world ;)

How is water organized in Poland? Private companies (I know that there is Veolia in Poland). State? Cities and towns? If public, who is at the head? Someone competent (...) or just someone important's pal?

Poles need to start demanding to be treated properly and fighting for dignity!

Life / Water in Warsaw in mid-January 2016 or .... 1916 [10]

Yes, Jardinero, I know that I am totally powerless and have to put up with the crap. I could take a shower this morning, my place is (kind of) clean, I don't have much dirty laundry and I have tons of clothes to wear and I have water (will buy some more tomorrow) and hopefully everything will be ok on Monday.... The problem is that I know how things "work" in Poland and it is hard to remain "zen". I have always thought that if a lot of people here (and in similar countries) turn into alcoholics, it is mostly because things are very difficult. I am too strong not to turn into an alcoholic ;) but for sure I'm mad.... Well, I'll try to do something to keep my mind busy with something else.

Thanks for your support! :) Apparently a lot of people are concerned right now in Warsaw!

I don't know too much about Réseau Voltaire but I know that they have become famous for putting the responsability for the NY's 9.11 attacks on the US government. They also regularly come up with rather "exotic" "ideas".

Once again, BEWARE of what is found on the net! Some people here are specialized to copy-paste any bs they can find on the net. It is not because it is on the net that it is true....

I must admit that I don't follow the political crisis now in Poland (am also not interested) but when I have read "Réseau Voltaire", I came up with "uwaga", it is nothing less than pure bullsh@@t.

Life / Water in Warsaw in mid-January 2016 or .... 1916 [10]

@Jardinero: true that we westerners are more "delicate" and are not used to put up with crap but all the inhabitants are Polish and they have gotten ****** too. I understand that "awaria" are part of the game but if they could assure us that 1. they turn water on for instance 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening so we could get organized (this morning we had water for one hour so after my shower I washed dishes and the floor) 2. they could give up some kind of an idea of WHEN to expect water back on, it would help us but absolutely NOTHING. Yesterday when calling number 994 (emergency number for water), they explained very big problem and they HOPE to fix it soon. They have been working on since Wednesday morning (I have not seen workers but it is what building administration and 99 said) and NOTHING. My neighbor is thinking about hiring a lawyer or getting journalists involved to put some pressure.... What do we need to do? Take hostages? Start hunger strike...?Probably they do not work on weekends and next week, what? If I knew, water to be turned back on for instance in 3 weeks, I would make arrangements to go somewhere else but we know nothing. We just hope while turning faucets on once in a while to check.

Of course, I have had other water "awaria" but they were all repaired within a few hours at most. Yes, Poland still has a long way to go to become 'normal"... ....

UK, Ireland / Hundreds turn out for funeral of Polish man who died alone on in County Clare Christmas Day [28]

@Atch: absolutely true re lack of solidarity of Poles for out of their family circles! A lot of Poles who know western countries very well told me that in the west, people have more solidarity towards others. In western Europe we show more and often a lot of solidarity towards others but I believe that in the US (where I have lived so I know, I don't need to rely on YouTube ;)); it is even more so and people help each other a lot... Right now, in my buidling we have lived without water for more than 3 days now and NO one from other buildings have offered us some water, to use their shower..... in western countries, a lot of people would have reacted.

As to what happened in Ireland, it could have happened in any other western country.

Life / Water in Warsaw in mid-January 2016 or .... 1916 [10]

Good morning! I am not relying on some made up stories found in YouTube or consorts but on the real life in today's Warsaw as experienced by people in my building and therefore including me...

Hard to believe but in this month of January 2016, we have NOT had water for 98% of the time since Wednesday, Jan. 13 and we don't know what future will bring us. Great!

On Wedneday am, no water! I called building administration and they said it's so in whole building ("awaria"). I was very annoyed, I heated mineral water to wash, went off for work and thought that by the time I would return at night the problem would be fixed. On Wednesday night, NO water. On Thursday morning, miracle, water on for some 2 hours and I took advantage of that to do a lot of cleaning/washing. On Thursday night, NO water. On Friday morning, another miracle, water for some 2 hours. Yesterday I was out all day so I sent message to administration to ask about what to expect ;) when back home. They said that the water company MIGHT fix problem (in a nearby street but to solve if they have to cut water in my building as well ;)) by 10 last night. Miracle, yesterday, at 20:45 some water for around 30 minutes and since then NO water.

Yesterday on my way home, I stopped to buy water at small shop (whose owner lives in my building) some 50 meters from my place and found my next door neighbor doing the same thing as I: buying lots of bottles of water ;). Although 'joking" my neighbor is really pis@@@ed (and now so am I) and thinks about getting a lawyer or journalists involved.

I am well aware that "awaria" do happen but come on, in 3 days, nobody seems to be able to repair it. I have never seen such a situation and it is not acceptable all the more as we do not know when and also ... whether we'll have some water again some day ;). I am wondering about the reasons of such situation. Is it due to lack of technology, money, knowledge (good workers have moved to "devilish" west for good money and conditions), lazyness, lack of respect from water company and from local authorities?

This morning and tomorrow morning, I'll buy lot of water again but how long do they mean to leave us in such conditions? When are we going to have water again and ARE we to have water again?

I am well aware that there are more dramatic situations (I do know myself) but is it normal to have people live with no running water in the 21st century right in a nice, quiet, middle-class neighborhood at a stone throw to downtown of a EU capital?????.

This beats me... but no matter what, I'll tell/write the overpaid sob running the water company how I feel about his incompetence and lack of respect towards normal citizens .... In such circumstances, in "normal" countries, the guy would have to resign...

We'll see...

Great, 4th day with no water in Central Warsaw (only 1 hour this morning)! It seems that the "awaria" is bigger than what I had heard and it seems that they do NOT know what to do (brilliant!!!!). Are there any other neigbhorhood concerned (besides Stara Ochota)? People are really getting angry and it is really great. People cannot any longer be treated like crap and they are right to react. 4 days without water and it is NOT over yet. It is normal to have "awaria" but they are repaired within a few hours and here we are on our 4th day without water!!! No, it is not normal but for Poland it does seem to be normal and we'd better not pay our water bills late ;).

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

@Marian: to go along what you have written: I have a client whose uncle is a doctor somewhere in Mazury according to whom doctors receive 20zl from NFZ for each patient. However doctors receive quite a "lot" of money from NFZ in case of surgical acts and as a result a lot of patients are oriented to very often unnecessary surgery. If true (my client is reliable, he does not tell crap), it's very scary....

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

@Kondzior: like Americans say 'money talks" (and "baloney walks' ;)): because Poland was scarred to lose some EU's money, they have accepted to take in 7,000 migrants (first 100 of them to arrive in late March 2016). It is not very hard for the EU to "straighten" Poland up since Poland says "amen" whenever the EU threatens to hit the pocketbook

Stop dreaming, Crow! You don't live in Poland and you don't live in any of the other EU country! I have around me several Russians or foreigners very close to Russia and the situation is not as bright as you believe. Russian economy has been dramatically hit by the low price of oïl and by western sanctions. The rubble is worth now nothing; Russia does not manufacture anything and has to import everything to be paid in dollars and as a result most Russians are poorer and cannot make it. Putin is still around because he is clever and knows how to exploit Russians's nationalism so people do not revolt.

As to other developping countries you mention, China, Brazil, India, they are having severe crisis. Inspite of all of problems, the EU and the USA re the richest areas, which Poland knows and that's why Poland will never leave the EU (the European soup is too good ;)). As Americans say "money talks and baloney walks"...

PS: if the EU is so .... bad, why does for instance Serbia want to be a member?????? ;);)

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

I must admit that I am not following all the mess: no time and also am not interested. However, these days, there is a lot of negative coverage re Poland in all world medias. I read and medias from several countries, in English and in French, and all this does not look "good"....

I have not followed the socalled 500 ZL per kid stuff and don't know what criteria are to get said money and a Pole today told me that at the current time, it's just "blabla" and nothing has been done.

I have read that people aged 75 and older will have their prescribed drugs for free and if so, I will be in favor of such a measure. The current situation is unacceptable when the elderly cannot afford to buy their medication.

Should the present government implement social measures to help the poorest and weakest, great!

However, their attitude concerning the threat to democracy may be very dangerous for the whole country and that is what foreign media cover...

News / WOSP Poland charity - is it value for money? [60]

@G: true! I am personally against street collecting as I believe that basic needs such as heatlh (education...) should be dealt with by State's funds thanks to taxes but since Poland does not do much, I feel sorry for the sick and give money (I also regularly give to against cancer societies). I don't want to hear that the State cannot afford to help the poor, the sick, the disabled... because it is just a political and societal choice: either to spend money on people so they live better (my choice without doubting a single 1/4 of a 1/2 second) or to spend money on craps most people can do without...

Of course, collecting 44 millions of ZL in a population of 38 millions is nothing to brag about but if some let's say 25 millions ZL can be used and help kids, I am 100% for it.

News / WOSP Poland charity - is it value for money? [60]

All monies do help for sure but I was shocked when I heard only 44 millions were collected; it makes an average of 1 ZL some groszy per Pole and it is very very little (Poles are on their whole not generous).
