Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

manadżer

Isn't it "menedźer", though?

jestem bardzo tired po long dayu

add "w nursing homie" to that sentence, and that could have been my ex. lmao :)

What annoys me is if someone from Poland corrects me on an incorrect pronunciation... of an English word adopted into Polish! That's even worse than Americans who correct British people because they can't spell U.S. English words like "tires" or "color" lol.

Or Polish people who throw all these English words into Polish speech all the time, but if you ask them a question in English, they say "sorry I don't speak English" lol :D

Language / Polish regional accents? [141]

People do tend to speak differently to the way they write, even if they are educated. I certainly don't speak in the same way as I write university assignments! But I get better marks than my "ethnic British" colleagues do ;)

and less formal would be ziemniaczek...

;)

It just goes to show that learning language is not only (a) fascinating, but (b) can have a wide range of influences, even within one family.

Most of my family is Masovian, but my dad was apparently from somewhere in the south-east/Ukrainian border; my stepdad was from Lwów but grew up near Katowice; I've lived in the English South-East, Midlands and North, so I use words from all over Poland as well as from all over England.

I may call a barm a cob sometimes, and a potato a kartofel, but you'll never hear me saying "sorry" (Polish use) instead of "przepraszam" lol :)

Oh actually, come to think of it, my dad was in the building trade, so we probably got it from him lol :D

Mind you, in Poland, English women are "seen" as fat and ugly - so what do I care what "people in Poland" think, haha :p

Language / Polish regional accents? [141]

"Na pole" Rules!

:)

:D

Just to confuse things even more, my family (those who can speak Polish, that is) all say kartofle/kartoflane and absolutely NOT ziemniaki/ziemniaczane - and we are not even slightly German lol!

It's like the ginnel/snicket/alley or teacake/cob/barm stuff you get in England I suppose, lol

I wonder if IKEA in Poland has silly names for its products, like they do here?

You know, like maybe a SRÅ toilet seat, or SMÄTA tea towels lol

Law / "FART" shop in Poland - WHAT DOES THIS SHOP SELL? [55]

ugh!

you won't want any of this either:

.

:D

I can well imagine! It just needs a sense of humour, really.

yeah, whenever I see "Lee Ho Fook" on a sign, I always think "he's just like Southern" lol.

Love / How to Make (Polish?) Women happy? [96]

That's not possible.

In my experience: swap the Skoda for an Audi, because she wants to be driven around in one. Explaining that Skodas are full of Audi parts these days makes no difference. :)

So I kept the Skoda and exchanged the Polish girlfriend for an English one. I win on all counts :D

I need to cycle out and copy the Manko billboard sign. Manko is a vulgar word for pu*sy in Japanese! It's a building contractor :)

Other ones are Fuk Mi and Willie Shafters :)

In my home city, we have the Flare&Firkin who made 'Firkin good meals'. The motto had to go.

Don't ever go to Hong Kong, trust me on this one :D

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

I live in the North(ish) of england,a small, mostly white market town but most of the large cities near abouts do have muslim populations, trouble is I dont see them influencing anyone.

Does the rule that "a Muslim man may marry a Christian or a Jew, but a Muslim woman may only marry a Muslim" ring any bells? Show me a local Muslim woman who was allowed to marry a partner who agreed to convert to Islam - in the North, a non-Muslim man hasn't got a cat in hell's chance of even being given that option! It's always the other way round - and you know why that is.

I havent given up a single thing since 9/11 or earlier, lets say the mid 70s when I was born which coincided with the rise of fundamentalist islam, so what do you think I will give up in the future, and Im a "liberal".

When they are the majority, you may not have a choice but to give something up - look up jizyah and you may find that the only choice you have is to either convert, or to pay the extra tax - some "choice" that is!

frankly a nice curry, rice and mango chuttny are far closer to " British" food than pierogi, lumps of fat and dodgy mielonka in a tin! (no offence ;) )

To be fair, those Polish foods are much closer to English dumplings, lard and tinned "Spam" than they are to Indian food! Mind you, I like all three (English, Polish and Indian food, that is!)

Language / Difference between Polska & Polsce? [26]

because that makes no sense.. i'll let others chime in to explain how it all works..

he (the OP) is thinking in English, which doesn't work in Polish ;)

a few examples:

Poland, the nation: Polska
In Poland: w Polsce
From Poland: z Polski
Of Poland/Polish: Polskie
About something Polish: o polskich/polskim
To Poland: do Polski
Beyond Poland: poza Polską

Still think those skinny Polish women are worth it?? ;) :D

And learnign to write Chinese? Forget it!

I may be exceptional, but I find Chinese characters far easier to remember than Chinese pronunciation. All I can remember is "xiexie" and that's not much use in Hong Kong lol

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

I don't think even Americans have.. 2000s - to present: American music is dogsh;t now. It's really sad. I'm not sure kids have the work ethic it takes to grind it out in a studio until you create something magic.

I can't even remember the last American music I bought. Probably the second Machine Head or Deftones albums. That must have been in about 1997-98, I think. They both went crap fairly soon after that.

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

Everybody hates America.

The American Government, maybe.

I haven't met enough Americans to say if I hate them or not.

Not keen on a lot of the social/cultural aspects of the USA, but even I have to admit that a lot of great things have come out of the USA.

I guess.. if you like Electronica. I still like muscians not DJs. The English are very good for music though.

In the 1980s (say, up to about 1986-87), I would have said that the best music was from Manchester, New York, Chicago, and some from Detroit - an obvious US bias. But from about 1987 onwards, only London and Manchester really mattered (although Belgium/NL was also significant around 1990-92).

Although Manchester lost its way a bit in the 1990s, I never really bothered with American music after about 1991-92 (except for a brief rap-metal/hardcore phase in the mid-1990s).

Lol @ English being good in music.

Personal preference, isn't it - I love English music.

But Polish music... now that's another matter altogether! lol!

History / Wealth of the Polish nobility [29]

We used to measure properties with gold and as you know more than half of the world's gold was concentrated in Byzantium.

Those were the days, eh? How times change! lol

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

The British history of genocide and plain mass murder around the world are not a good reason for Poles to accept the same suicidal, path that the great British people is now following.

There's no reason for most British people to follow that path, either. Very few people alive today could be blamed for any involvement in black slavery, and especially not those of us born here of of Polish origin.

Google "Polish involvement black slavery" and see what you find - nothing. Change "Polish" to certain other search terms, and you'll find an encyclopaedia full of links. Unfortunately, those links will include "English", but it's all a long time ago now, and reparations have been paid by Western countries, in the form of billions of pounds of aid, etc. But I'm still waiting for apologies and reparations from Arabs who enslaved blacks when the English were still living in houses made with wattle and daub :)

Besides, the UK wasn't built on black slavery to anywhere near the extent that the USA was; most UK blacks were asked to come here to work after WWII, not brought here as free labour several centuries ago.

It is true that many American blacks may have worked as slaves in the American cotton fields, at the same time as hundreds of thousands of white Britons were forced into working 15 hours a day/six days a week in Lancashire's cotton mills. Yet these British barely had enough to live on, despite the hours, and were abused, assaulted or punished severely for non-compliance. At the same time, Bradford's woolcombers were working similar hours, in even worse conditions, for similar rates of pay, and had an average life expectancy of eighteen years old! If that isn't also slavery, if not legalised genocide, I don't know what is.

This went on for two centuries before any significant Black or South Asian immigration began. But there are no "reparations" for the families of those British workers, and never will be. And no-one can seriously claim these mill workers "profited" from this trade, whether that trade was driven by the produce of black cotton-picking slaves, or not - only a tiny minority of rich, powerful people profited, and their descendants are probably still the only ones profiting from the former slave trade.

Poland wasn't involved in black slavery, and owes Africa nothing. It is only a corrupt EU agenda which is forcing them to feel guilty and making them accept Africans. Maybe someone would like to explain why "multiculturalism" is only being imposed on European countries? I don't see much "enriching" or "diversity" in most Asian or African countries.

UK, Ireland / Oxford Polish bride 'heartbroken' over arrest - accusations of sham marriage [126]

But really this is the price of Polki.Of course you can have for free but you have to accept some closer commitment.

Oh, that explains it - because I actually have relationships with women (unlike southern) I get more for my money (which wasn't anywhere near 400 Euro a month, lol).

Travel / Why do people say that Poland is so unsafe? [60]

(shocked. I live in low crime city...)

I don't think I've ever lived in a low-crime city in my life. I got bottled in Nottingham when I was seven. Seven, ffs!!!!! :0

Do low-crime cities even exist in the UK these days?

Oh, and more to the point... I wonder how many people get shot or "shanked" for "disrespect" (lmao) in Poland every day...

400 Euro a month Polish women maintenance

When I read this forum, I often wonder why I'm not still a virgin who has never had a girlfriend, because there's no way I can match up to these guys who earn enough to "maintain" a Polish woman (or indeed any other woman) at 400 Euro a month, plus everything else, like an expensive car which is "fit to carry a Polish woman in", etc.

But then I pinch myself, and realise that the real world isn't quite as fake as southern's world is, and I've actually done quite well with the ladies over the years. And no-one's ever asked me to pimp them either :p :D

I was out with a friend yesterday - he reckons gay men are sick and need help! "what's that all about"

My recent experience of recent Polish immigrants suggests that anyone who "isn't like us Poles" must be gay - including me!

Well, from what I've gathered from their insults towards so-called "gays" (as defined by boneheaded, smelly, badly-dressed, hard-drinking and chain-smoking uneducated Polish idiots), having a bath every day, not smelling of tobacco and Tyskie, and actually making an effort to dress in non-market clothes makes men into a battyboy - in which case, I must be! haha ;)

Except I'm not, of course. Gay or homophobic, that is. And these pricks still can't understand why many of their women are sick of them. Who wants to go out with a twat who stinks and can't even make an effort to put some decent clothes on, because "that's what all these gay English do"? f*** 'em!

Yet the funniest thing is: most of these pricks look more like someone who would hang around Canal Street than I ever will! :D

But you know how it is - the biggest homophobes are usually hiding a little "secret", aren't they ;)
