USA, Canada / Where is loyalty of Polish diaspora in America? In USA or in Poland? What is priority? [63]

yes sirrrrr, this forums is informative like that...

Sometimes, it's not so hard to separate the wheat from the chaff....

just re-froze.. lol

A proud Canadian Tradition since 1867. It helps keep out those nasty neighbors from the south from invading northwards.

your government crashing can't be a good thing

It will be an safe and orderly transition of power. More of the same in my opinion, with a Conservative minority being placed back in power. Too many elections in a short period... Something like the fifth in 11 years?

My wife has voted in each of those elections, so we can assume she has taken her civic responsibility seriously here. Also voted in at least 2 Polish elections while here. But then again, according to the rules of the forum, she probably shouldn't have that right.

How does one actually measure loyalty?

Lol - so it must be true then ShawnH;)

If you say it enough, it must be true.

PS - Hope you are well and that Canada is thawing out a bit;)

My wife is part of the diaspora, we are working hard to put food on the table. She is concerned about life's basic issues, the health of our family unit, the safety in our immediate community, and the price of milk. Heating costs haven't gone down and the temperature outside hasn't gone up. We aren't as concerned about the big issues in Poland as compared to here. I am sure things are similar in Poland, with people just wanting to get on in their lives as best as they can.

Love / In 2009 nearly 4000 Poles married a foreigner [170]

ha! a Nigerian man pays 12,000 zl to a Polish woman for marriage...

Don't worry about him. He has enough money because his uncle died, and he got his estate out of the country. I helped him with that last transaction, and I am now loaded too.

News / Polish cities outside of Poland [8]

Toronto - 220,000; Poles mainly live around Roncesvalles Avenue, Brampton and Mississauga....

And they do make the news here...

Polonia Restituta Medal Awarded

Oshawa's Mitch Lutczyk has joined the ranks of U.S President Dwight Eisenhower and Gen. Douglas MacArthur now that he has been awarded the prestigious Polish medal of the Polonia Restituta.

The 91-year-old Second World War veteran who served with the First Polish Armoured Division received the medal at a reception at the Polish consulate in Toronto

torontosun.com/news/torontoandgta/2011/03/16/17643891.html

And they are rolling in the dough....

One of three Toronto bakers who will share a $50-million lottery win dreamed about a wheelbarrow full of money in the days leading up to the draw.

Eugeniusz Borek has worked as a delivery driver at Ontario Bread Co. on Ossington Avenue south of Dundas Street West for almost 20 years, along with close friends and fellow Polish immigrants Zdzislaw Modlinski and Wlodzimierz Konieczny.

Law / Is it illegal to burn the bible or any religious symbols in Poland? [30]

You mean stamp collecting or woodwork or something? I've never heard of bible burning as a hobby, but in Poland anything is possible.

Stop being naive....

You know perfectly well what he is talking about. Hair dressing, interior decorating and being a coffee barista at Starbucks. You know....

Law / America takes leading investor spot in Poland [51]

so?

Just sayin that on a thread about American Investments in PL, restaurants wouldn't be capital intensive for those American restaruants. The franchisee (local PL investors?) would be putting up the majority of the investment, compared to a diaper factory for example.

Law / America takes leading investor spot in Poland [51]

most of them american owned. i taught at Google, Hewlitt Packard.....ate at Planet Sushi/KFC/Pizza Hut......drank Coca Cola/Pepsi/Red Bull/

Aren't most of the eateries you mentioned franchises? ie. a Polish investor has to ante up a good chunk of his own capital, in return for merchandising, product, advertising, and most importantly the brand name? Not sure what the ratio of "franchisee capital vs. corporate captial" would be....

Law / WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE EURO CURRENCY TO POLAND? [101]

Can't say for sure on the effect of Poland adopting the Euro, but shouldn't you also be concerned about the natural fluctuation of the Dollar vs. the Euro? The US dollar looks like it is on a path to be kept artificially(?) low against other currencies in order to stimulate jobs and minimize the impact of foriegn debt / interest payments...

Food / POLISH RECIPES! [287]

its a great dish if made correctly

The wife made some last night with kasza? and no tomato sauce. Went well with the gravy. She said it was mostly a southern recipe, her mother would never make it that way....

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

so who needs Starbucks anyways.

Amen Sister! Shame the same can't be said for Timmies... :-)

it looks a bit of a skank

and tastes that way too.... IMO.

Good coffee beans in the shops!

I like the one in the Green package from the Polish shop. We usually keep one in the cupboard in case of coffee-emergencies. It's a little pricy, but a nice treat now and then.

I have 2 of those:D. Time to dust them off ?

I thought you had one of those italian stove top models, water in the bottom, grinds sitting in a basket just above the water, water boils, filters up through the coffee grinds, further up a tube and into a receptacle? Great for an afternoon quickie.

good, strong coffee. Po turecku.

Reminds me of a stop somewhere between Warsaw and Krak. We drove from Bialystok and needed a little pick me up. Was in a gas station, and it was the first time I had po turecku. Quite enjoyable, and we have made it at home on occasion too, but I am not sure if there is a certain way the beans need to be roasted to get the same effect. Maybe it is the grind?
