Life / Are Poles winter lovers? [63]

It's that time of the year again! After the brutal summer, I love the winter more than ever! Snow is on it's way!

USA, Canada / Do Pol/Ams celebrate Black Friday and other American festivals? [18]

It doesn't surprise me. People are at their absolute craziest and rude when they get in the store. In line they are pretty nice but when they get in the store, they will trample and stampede and cram until they totally clog and gridlock the area the special they are after is in.

USA, Canada / Do Pol/Ams celebrate Black Friday and other American festivals? [18]

I boycotted Black Friday this year but went to the one last year. It was awful. People crammed into the electronics department at Target just to get a television that was on sale. They clogged the entire front of the store so no one could move. Logistics nightmare! I wanted to get a Casio keyboard but I couldn't see the display in the front of the store over all the t v people so I ended up wandering innocently into their territory looking for the keyboards. I found a few in the electronics department but couldn't get a cart through all the people and the keyboard was too bulky and heavy to carry. People were so rude too. They didn't understand that all I was trying to do was find one little keyboard and leave. I finally found them in the front after the crowd crammed into the electronics department. Would have been nice to have seen them when I first entered the store. Why can't Target have all the t v people go to the back of the store at a loading dock for their precious televisions and let everyone else shop in peace?

Life / Poles don't know that baby seat should be in back only? [16]

I've always heard that from firefighters and such. The backseat of a car is surrounded by a steel frame and it's further back from the engine so there's less a chance of crush type injuries.

USA, Canada / PolAm style Thanksgiving? [35]

I found a delicious new meal. It involves roasted turkey breast and ultra delicious Butternut squash. First, I roast a turkey breast after seasoning it with plenty of salt, pepper and ground thyme. Then I chop up half a Butternut squash and put it in a skillet with some olive oil coating the bottom in a single layer. I salt and pepper it, cover and cook on medium low heat until the squash is somewhat tender. I chop some of the turkey at this point, while the squash is cooking. After flipping the chunks of squash over to cook the sides facing up, I add the chopped turkey and cover. After five minutes, I stir it all up cover and cook longer, until turkey is heated thoroughly.

This combination is really delicious. I prefer the Butternut to sweet potatoes.

Life / Trick or treat in Poland [24]

That's the Star Spangled Banner. I just researched Google. The trick or treating idea did originate in medieval Europe but wasn't popular in the US until the 1930's.

Life / Trick or treat in Poland [24]

Most kids do not play tricks, they just ask for candy and the idea did come from Europe. Most of that old country stuff originated over there. Ever notice the Star Spangled Banner and God Save The Queen have the same tune? Old country has a profound influence on this one.

Life / Trick or treat in Poland [24]

It came to America from Europe, not the other way around:)))) I am surprised it isn't in Poland due to the strong Catholic influence.

News / Polish Diaspora - many of these 20 million actually speak Polish? [79]

You never idealize anything? People need their ideals so why deny them? Some people have a romantic vision of Poland just like they do for every country. There are good and bad in everywhere Some people exaggerate the bad parts while others the good.

News / Polish Diaspora - many of these 20 million actually speak Polish? [79]

Everybody talks about the places they are born with a certain nostalgia. I've known Vietnamese whose parents were from Vietnam and they talk about how beautiful and wonderful it is. It's normal for people to idealize. Get over it!

News / Polish Diaspora - many of these 20 million actually speak Polish? [79]

My question is, why do certain individuals have a problem with people of Polish ancestry living outside Poland? Why is it such a huge issue. I see a Korean on the street, I stop and ask them what nationality they are, they reply "Korean" in perfect English. No one quizzes them on what languages they know. No one tries to argue them out of being Korean. Their Koreaness is as plain as the nose on your face.

Why the double standard with Polish?

UK, Ireland / Disgusting, fat and lying Polish women and Illegal immigration in UK [73]

The women know the marriage is fake and haven't an emotional connection to the guy. For them it's all about money. Although an overweight one might suffer from low self esteem leaving her vulnerable to the wiles of con artists.

Magpie, they could have ways around that by using fake IDs.
