News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

For once you've typed something one can agree with. There used to be many ethnic neighbourhoods in the US (Little Italy, Polish Town, Greek Town, etc.) which added a touch of colour and variety to WASP-ified "keep up with the Joneses" America. To this day, ethnic festivals attract throngs of people of various national backgrounds. The main thing is that none of those ethnic groups expected preferntial treatment, let alone trying to impose their cultural or religious values on the rest of the population.

Leftists

Leftists are radical utopianists who want to turn everything on its head. They are waging war on people's cherished religious beliefs, want to replace the normal family with some alternative construct, force PC and multi-culti down people's throats and to show they have some human compassion shed crocodile tears over the homeless, refugees, etc., although they wouldn't want them living next door. Such liberal leftists, leftist liberals or just plain leftists populate the PO and Petru parties.

will lose badly to Macron

French commentators have pointed out that Macron, who will probably win, has ready solutions for yesterday's France. His programme does not address the key issues facing the French nation today. Although LePen has helped bolster France's sense of national identity, diluted by years of lefty-liberal mutli-culti balderdash as well as by the confusion caused by the migrant invasion and attendant rise in terrorism, her main drawback is her russophilic stance. She actually wants to do away with sanctions against Putin's aggressors who at this very moment are waging war against a neighbour state.

some poor migrant,

So let Europe, America and Australia open their borders to any third-worlder able ot make it to their borders. From what I have heard, the Australian coast guard used to fire upon boatloads of migrants trying to get in. That has served as a succsessful deterrent to the migrant invasion.

benefit paradise

Whther or not it's true, the masses of migrants think it is -- generous benefits for them and the families they later manage to bring over, maybe for a generation or two into the future. How many of them want to go to Croatia, Poland or Lithuania? No, it is Germany, Sweden and, although separated by the Channel, the UK that are their preferred destinations.

completely misleading

We are in an era of poltical correctness or post-truth, where not facts as they are but as utopian leftists thinlks they should be is what counts. The one with the most cleverly worded "narration" (slant on reality) wins out in today's media.

Language / What are some loanwords in the Polish language? [24]

left many words

Very interesting but it would have been better if you had given more exmaples of Italian, German, Lithuanian, Turkish, French, etc. borrowings, at lkeast 3-4 of each.

"szlafrok"

Also szlafmyca! BTW, when I was a boy, my Polish Dziadek, who knew no German but was a great jokester, taught me my first German words (spelling them the way he pronounced them):

Kasza -- gryca, czapka -- myca, słonina -- spek, gówno -- drek.

the end of the EU

On one of the political talking heads shows today someone said if the EU ever tried to actually enforce hte €250,000 fine for each unadmitted migrant -- that would cause the bloc's break-up.

self-destruction

Marx said capitalits will sell the communists the rope on which to hang them (the capitalits) from. In this particulary case, fat, flabby, hedonistic Western Europe is promoting a phenomenon that will destroy Western civilisation, and probably sooner than anyone expects. Every day that radical measures such as mass deportation are not taken to stop the migrant invasion only encourages other third-worlders to go for broke. What do they have to lose? 90% of emirgants make it across hte Mediterranean. In the refugee camps they figure eventually they'll find a way to continue their trek and eventually male it to benefit-rich paradise -- Germany, Sweden, maybe even the British Isles.

News / Which French candidate for president will be best for Poland? [512]

Polish political circles are understandably following French presidential news and wondering which candidate for president would be most beneficial to Poland. From a TVN24 political discussion it emerged that none are. All of them are to some extent anti-American, anti-German and anti-NATO but all are pro-Russian. LePen is additionally anti-EU.

History / Lithuanians hate Poles? [156]

Jan Hus, the great Czech reformer

Also a great heretic whose Hussite marauders attacked Poland's Jasna Góra monastery and desecrated its most sacred icon of the BVM. They tried to torch it and slashed it with a sword. That is said to account for the dark hue of the Black Madonna as well as the slashes on Her cheek which have been retained in all subsequent potrayals in memory of that dastardly sacrilege.

Polish letters

Yes, the Letts adopted the Polish ogonek for ą, ę and į, however it is not a nasaliser but indicates a long vowel.

Polish owned chains

How many Polish-owned chains can you list? Żabka is the only well-known one. There used to be MarcPol. Dunno if there are any others in Wrasaw. Piotr & Paweł?

old 'have you been a good boy/girl/' routine.

That's what the traditional św. Mikołaj does -- egzaminuje z paciorków i dobrych uzcynków. I would never don a Santa-Creep suit, go ho-ho-ho or hang out with flea-bitten reindeer like some commercialised Lapland Troll.

more about these things

Friend of mine, the late Jan Wydro of Oil City, PA, was involved with a group called Americares for Poland and their work included an annual Candylift to Poland. Several tonnes of sweets came by plane and were distributed via Caritas (Father Stefan Gralak was in charge). I had about 20 stops towards the end, as I found out about worthy institutions, I added them. I visited, quizzed kids on their prayers, good deeds, behaviour and preshcool or school progress and passed out treats. That's all there was to it. No bureacracy I could see. I dealt only with the mainly Chruch-related or other charitable institutions, not the regime. The commie regimes from Gomułka to Jaruzel were or purported to be very pro-Polonian and gratefully accepted such aid esp. when shortages abounded. I suppose if customs had found a duplicator nestled amongst the sweets, the operation might have run into problems.

The small corner shop

So what is your sure-fire Delphiand*pa scheme to ensure the survival of family-owned corner shops?
Most Poles are fed up with far too many TV adverts and, retail prices being equal, would gladly patronise mum & dad shops.

small local businesses

What about levelling the playing field and creating business equality for all? A small shopkeeper cannot possibly compete pricewise with the biggies who buy goods at knock-down prices by the trainload and can afford to sell some of it at cost just to drive family-owned shops out of busiess. What if there was an equal-price law? I know the hypercapitalists will gripe nad grumble, but what other way is there to provide equal chances all round?

If you don't like

Personal liking or disliking, private convenience or inconvenience, one's own subjective comfort or discomfort are the categories only selfish egoists think in -- a very low-minded and mean-spirited preoccupation when the fate of the nation is concerned. A but more idealism and a bit less creature-comfort egoism would do you good!

Balzerman

You may or may not know that journalists are a joking lot and amongst themselves have used such tags as Gen. Jabberwocky, Walrus (Wałęsa) and Balzerman in reference to familair public figures.

state-owned chain of hypermarkets

Why the obsession with state-owned retailers? Public ownership is advisable mainly in the case of strategic industrial sectors and retail business is not normally one of them.

made at a terrible factory

One can see that as usual you are blowing off stema with no knpowll3gde ont he usbejct. Daewoo had a very modern operaiton going at Żerań. They did not statr produciton in an ramshackle and otudated Polish factorsy but compeltely mdoern9ised nad adapted it to their production requirements. Just the one Lublin van line had tremendous potential for the 1990s. Even if only state vehicles were provided that would be a huge volume consideirng vans and light lorries for the police, fire service, army, forestry, post office. ambulances and myraid other uses not to mention commercial sales as delivery vans, hearses, taxis and many more.

Remember the Polish Capital Consortiumn would be an extremely wealthy entity. They could enlist the aid of foreign automotive firmrs and advisers. Renault for years was a state company. What was missing in psot-commie Poland was imagination and determination. Soros brought in Balzerman and ignorant Poles were told that's how it had to be.

communist

Nothing to do with marxism (mainly groucho in Poland's case!) Regardless of ownership form, if it's Polish it creates Polish jobs, provides manufacturing and marketing experience and promotes a Polish brand.

Maybach and Pislamic anyone?

Why should people in those countries not patriotically buy in their own stores?

Strange question from someone who thinks it normal for Poles to unpatriotically support foreign interest groups!

it's irrelevant

It's irrelevant to culturally and spiritually alien expats who can be likened to a foreign toxic and parasitic growth on the healthy body of the Polish nation.

they were trying to get away from.

I agree. The Soros-inspired roundtable clique did everything possible to prevent Poland becoming an eoxnoimic powerhouse and succeeded in making it a neo-colonial entity exploited by outside forces. PiS are the only chance of that ever changing.

shock therapy was all about

That was Soros' plan to divest Poland of her industrial assets and make her a neoi-colonial victim of foreign interest groups. What ex-PZPR member Balzerman should have done was create a Polish Capital Consortium -- a state and private capital group encompassing petrochemicals, copper conglomerate, shipyards, collieries, steelworks, Cegielski, distilleries, breweries and all other major viable, nearly viable and salvageable industrial assets which could be listed on the bourse and turn Poland into an economic powerhouse. That would have spared Poland unemplyoment of up to 30%-40% in some areas, depressed regions and many other hardships. When Daewoo ran into trouble the PCC could have bought out their Polish operation and used it to create an indigenous automotive sector. By now maybe only LeClerc and Carrefour would be on the Polish market alongside 10 major wholly Polish-owned retail chains which would also have outlets in Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, Belgium, Lithuania, France and Britian.
