USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

They would frown when you swore, didn't want you to smoke and drink, even though they enjoyed all of those things themselves. And the teddy bears. Ughh.. I'm 24! Why on earth would I want a teddy bear?!!!

Firstly you appeared to reject the suggestion (@ post# 67) that Ireland has a different history, language, culture to Britain. Do you honestly think this?

I wanted to know what is specific characteristic of Irish culture, except folklore, it seems to me that there only two things - rejection of foreign rule and Catholicism which allowed to survive separate identity.

Everyone likes to think that their own culture is unique

What is unique for Ireland ?

So although I could provide you an answer of sorts, it's not easy to do so, and basically my explanation will invariably be disputed as many other countries will say "what's Irish about that? sounds like Polish/Dutch/French as well"

Genealogy / Slavs are descendants of Sarmatians? [600]

I've noticed a few people on this site talk about Slavs being the descendants of the Sarmatians.

Only Crow, but there is connection between Poles and Sarmatians!
Some historians thinks that - due to findings in ancient Slaves graves, elements of Sarmatains like items - there is connection between Slaves and Sarmatians, either:

- Sarmatians it is an old name of Slaves or some of the Slaves.
- Slaves are the result of mix between Balts and Sarmatian people.
- port of the Sarmatians conquered Slaves and then they had been assimilated by Slavic culture.

For Poles in the middle-ages a myth that Poles are descendants of the Sarmatians had been very important for building national identity.
There is similarity between some of the early Polish coats of arms and Sarmatians signs/tamagha.
Polish heraldry includes the extensive use of horseshoes, arrows, Maltese crosses, scythes, stars and crescents as well as many purely geometrical shapes for which a separate set of heraldic terms was invented. It has been suggested that originally all Polish coats of arms were based on such abstract geometrical shapes, but most were gradually "rationalized" into horseshoes, arrows and so on. It suggests in turn that Polish heraldry, also unlike Western European heraldry, may be at least partly derived from a kind of rune-like symbols: the Tamgas used by nomadic peoples of the Steppe, such as the Sarmatians or the Avars.

They certainly don't want to pay the extra 10% or so that Poland needs to pay for all these social welfare schemes.

What are you implying? Taxes pay for everything government does, they should looking for cuts in spendings, not to blame social care for they thieving!

And you're trying to tell me that these people purposefully hurt Poland? It's that kind of paranoid attitude that holds Poland back.

I'm saying that those people don't give a **** about Poland, Poles or the like, they look just for their own gain. They are totally immoral and devoid of social or national bonds !

As for being paranoid, that BS, I say how it is in reality, otherwise they overt influence should be beneficial for Poland. We can observe that is disastrous in every way!

Our own folklore, dance, traditional costumes, language, music etc... all the usual stuff that makes up a culture.

Sorry, but every single Solidarity-backed government has been a failure, except the first one - and even that fell apart very quickly.

Solidarity or not there was always strong element of ex-commie security forces plus party members and their lackeys in key position - it is simple enough to grasp!

Quite frankly, the people of Poland only have themselves to blame for wanting low taxes and high social care.

Really? As if all taxes were spend on social care ? What a pile of rubbish !

Which will put unemployment up. The UK example shows that the private sector simply isn't able to absorb those made redundant from public sector jobs.

there is infrastructure to be build, I'm sure they will need workers for the task!

Where will Poland get combat experience then?

What for? First, Poland should implement sound defence, fighting irregular combatants for say 8000 soldiers will not be much of the help for Poland, those monies and resources could be used to further defence strategy.

Where's the money coming from to fund tax cuts?

simple -less taxes more moneys stays in man pocked !

but the example of Polkomtel should tell you that Governments cannot run big business.

Government? State can run some enterprises good enough !

Government should radically cut employment in administration, pull out all troops from abroad, cut all bureaucracy BS and make a rules simple!
cut taxes, more money with people ...

start some work on the railways
- start some work on the roads when the EU funds were there

yeah, and generally infrastructure.....
governmental company's should be make efficient instead of selling them off for peanut !

The problem that you don't see the association is the problem.

OK ! lets talk about associations!
Poland as the only EU member was excluded from the WVP.
The reason? Some Poles as Americans claimed were overstaying their visas, so the majority of Poles were abused or discriminated against because of the action of minority.

However all, so high and mighty liberals and fighters for human rights on PF - were strangely silent about it and never condoned said policy.

Analogously, some obscure policy of the private business, Pub where as I understand they can refuse to serve anybody they want to refuse, is seen and advertised as racist, discriminatory and as a prove that Poles are racists !

Well, lady's and gents , you cannot have it both ways !
What don't you say what you really think - Poles are backwater of civilized society just because ! We are so much better !
