Genealogy / Why Polish aren't white?? [272]

It is fascinating that there are people who will still try to refute the racial IQ difference

Because there isn't any, and even if there were, it would make not the slightest bit of difference to anything - certainly not to the topic of this thread.

News / Jarosław Kaczyński is Economic Forum's "Man of the Year" [30]

All politicians (like everyone else) is flawed - JK more than most in political life at that level. Bedroom would be a far better contender for Person of the Year, though knowing him, he'd probably turn it down.

Some very good names in there Po3, in and among some unsuitable ones, however people like Macierewicz are best left to fade away. No reason that there shouldn't be a 'legal alien' as you quaintly call it - though you did mention that you're one yourself so could be in the running one day - I don't now count as one ;-) - winning the Man of the Year either.

I think Biedron who is a huge success as President of Slupsk could be an excellent contender. Tusk, no - he's won already. The President of Warsaw, though not a man (nor is the award 'Man of the Year' - it's actually 'Person of the Year, Człowiek Roku) has also survived and had her term of office confirmed despite a sustained political attack.

Real Estate / Who pays for the real estate agency's cost in Poland? [26]

When I did it, we signed at the flat during the initial viewing (that was for rental) but did it the way you say when it was to buy. The rental one was that I'd pay if I rented that flat and wouldn't circumvent the agent.

If the've contacted an agent and just asked them to show various flats, it would happen the way you say Terri, and yes they've signed.

so are bound to pay if they take the flat.

I would advise the OP (if they need the flat quickly and/or it's a brilliant flat) to either pay the money or (if there's still time)walk away and look on Gumtree for flats without an agent (check the box 'od wlasciciela').

News / Poland's Archbishop Wesolowski trial starts [28]

Same here. the very young are to be protected and that is one reason that such material is illegal, even if the law is belt and braces careful (in the UK you can't now possess an image of a person looking 'provocative' if they're a day short of their 18th birthday - a lot of old pop music posters and copies of The Sun newspaper are now technically child porn).

The issue in the RC church isn't just that it was happening, it is more that it was covered up - priests admitting guilt to Bishops who then protected them and moved them to other parishes where they re-offended. In some cases, the diocese lied about the priest's whereabouts and in many, many cases, clergy admitted what they'd done in confession and they just received absolution with nothing ever reported - while all the time some child was suffering.

With Wesolowski, we don't know whether he was raping 5 year olds or just groping 15 year olds (or neither) - and his death means we probably never will.

News / Poland's Archbishop Wesolowski trial starts [28]

Exactly, and that's what a prosecutor would say. Remember though that feelings and deeds aren't the same thing. Paedophilia isn't in itself illegal and would be impossible to criminalise - there are individuals who say they are that way who have never committed a crime. . Acting on feelings like that and abusing children certainly is illegal.

The downloaded kiddy porn would count (assuming the law in that jurisdiction allows it) as 'similar fact' evidence and would increase the likelihood of a conviction for the things he was accused of.

News / Poland's Archbishop Wesolowski trial starts [28]

@Jon: only a peadophile can have child porno on his computer

This is very true. Remember though that to be one of those is not illegal. the crime is actually doing it rather than being it. The downloaded images though would have corroborated any allegations (and there were many and over a long period, not just one isolated potential liar) in court.

The amount (enormous, according to the vatican) is significant. Probably half the posters here have something illegal under English law on their computer or in their home without even knowing it. The definition is very loose, however 'enormous' is hard to explain away.

News / Poland's Archbishop Wesolowski trial starts [28]

That's it exactly @InPolska - I'm very suspicious of any contested allegation without forensic evidence or witnesses; there are simply too many false allegations from fantasists, the mentally disturbed and/or chancers as they are seeing in the UK right now with the bizarre allegations against politicians, all coming by the way from the same source. So many are nothing more than false allegations and perhaps he should be given the benefit of the doubt, especially as he consistently denied the charges. But...

This however is a different matter since there seems to have been hard evidence on his computer of a related crime. 'Similar fact' evidence would be enough to guarantee a conviction in a lot of jurisdictions.

News / Jarosław Kaczyński is Economic Forum's "Man of the Year" [30]

President of Europe

Well, the President of the European Council is a. Polish and b. a success. That's going off topic though since the clown Jaro will never hold that post.

As a PiS supporter (and on past form) nobody would expect you to appreciate the subtle difference between someone who holds a post and who doesn't.

Real Estate / Who pays for the real estate agency's cost in Poland? [26]

Just how does that relate to real estate fees in Warsaw or other Polish cities?

To the casual observer (if they can actually be bothered to read what you've tried to write), it looks like you're attempting to turn a thread about real estate fees in Poland into a (semi-literate) argument about a situation you've only searched the net about in a country you don't live in and aren't from. You can rest assured though that I don't read your posts - they're neither coherent nor easy on the eye.

And they don't help the OP one little bit.

Weird? Very.

The national disgrace high-tailed it off to Brussels

Is that a Euphemism for "his plane crashed and his cronies loudly pretended there was a conspiracy"?

Very ironic that an economic forum should give him an award, albeit a worthless one, when economists and the markets simply don't trust his party:

Economy is showing signs of slowing after several quarters of surprising on the upside.

Real Estate / Who pays for the real estate agency's cost in Poland? [26]

In Poland, as the OP found, a charge is normal. Half the first month's rent is at the lower end of the scale - there must be a bit of a price war in that location. There is an upper limit however it rarely reaches that.

By far the best thing to do is to avoid agents altogether.

nailed.

'Nailed"? You're behaving as if it's a. an argument, b. a thread about the UK and c. as if you were correct. Very strange.

In fact the UK situation is somewhat more complicated than you'd like it to be and the Polish situation is rather simpler.

Hard to know how that inarticulate bit of drivel adds to a discussion about a prize given to Jaro - presumably they'd handed it out to everyone else in years past and Kukiz would have been a step too far even for them.

News / Why no reprivatisation in Poland? Holocaust-era property ownership. [119]

Pray tell, Undercover, how would you, the Perfect, have most likely acted under identical circumstances, eh? None too well, I'd imagine:-)
So just stop casting the stones of self righteous arrogance!!

Exactly, and very well said, Lyzko. What a person or group may or may not have done donkeys' years ago has no moral or legal bearing on restitution of state-held property - whoever that group is.

And wedding customs have even less relevance.

rainbow

Well, Grzegorz, he has a poor reputation all round, doesn't he. Very few politicians who are considered unfit to be the candidate for the party they themselves lead.

A list of all the many reasons why he is considered a clown would be appropriate here, just to remind those of us who vote.

Real Estate / Who pays for the real estate agency's cost in Poland? [26]

Increasingly they're charging only the vendor - too many agents in the market so people can pick and choose, not that they're needed at all.

almost every uk letting agency except in Scotland charge fees if you rent

Nope. Local authorities regulate them.

Genealogy / Why Polish aren't white?? [272]

Some people rate nature over nurture and confuse cultural exposure with intelligence. If most posters on here (including myself) met our great great great great grandparents we would probably think they were stupid. They weren't (necessarily), they had just formed different neural pathways to someone in the modern world. Just as someone in a small village in Mali or Dahomey would score differently in an IQ test designed in New York.

And irrelevant how Polish (I suspect the OP means Pol-Ams) are seen as 'black' or 'white' by some other person. The amount of melatonin in the skin (and it varies in Poland) has no known effect on intelligence; nor does ancestry from a particular part of the world.

oh please not that old chestnut.

Quite. Though to draw on Roger's post, any gap doesn't reflect well on the ethnicity of the poster.

Anyway, better go, I'm seeing Dr M'kwane for some x-Ray results.

Real Estate / Who pays for the real estate agency's cost in Poland? [26]

Eh?, local authorities have the power to regulate lettings agencies within their areas. Very few permit an upfront fee, though agencies like all bottom feeders do try it on. So you are wrong, of course.

In Poland, they do it because they can get away with it for rentals. For sales it is getting rarer.

Genealogy / Why Polish aren't white?? [272]

Ethnicity means shared cultural values (including conflicting ones) and a shared identity. Nothing else. Nothing to do with white or black.
