Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Irrelevant. There are thousands (millions?) of people who are 'Polish by blood' but not in the least bit Polish.

Oh come on thats ridiculuos.
My family is 100% Polish to early 19th century (afaik).
I live in Canada but the fact is im fricken Polish.
I speak and read it. I eat Polish food. etc.

If someone is 99%-100% Polish by blood they are Polish I dont care where the hell they live or what they do.
Even people who are 1/2 Polish have Polish blood. In that case I could say hes 50%Polish 50%German for example.

So, you don't even have a Polish name, you're a halfbreed (with German blood - in Poland, the mother determines the bloodline, not the father) - you really don't have much going for you, do you?

Just because his name is Matt means hes not Polish? are you an idiot?

Where did you get this mother determines the bloodline stuff? Ive only heard Jewish people use that one.
Pretty sure "blood" comes from both parents.

History / Teaching our kids about Poland's History [57]

Ya I live in Canada they did not say ANYTHING about Poland in any history class
(Elementary or High school... in College I never took any history)

Okay okay there are 2 exceptions:

1)Copernicus was Polish
2)Poland was invaded by Germany to start WWII.

Other than that NOTHING.

It was not until after elementary school that I started to learn about Polish history and damn I loved reading about it... except the parts where we lost :D

This reminds me of Bush saying dont forget Poland when the stuff in the Middle East/Asia started to happen.

News / Warsaw is the natural capital of Europe, not Brussels [67]

As a Norman Davies book reads:

Heart of Europe- The Past in Poland's Present.

Poland is in central Europe, historically center of many conflicts, looks like a heart, and the people are awesome :D

News / What must be done to improve politics in Poland? [72]

When it comes to politics in Poland I rather not think of it because from the little I have heard its all a giant headache.

With that said though can anyone explain to me the main parties?
Or a link would be nice (preferably English because I read slow like a turtle in Polish).

Life / Uptight Poles [262]

haha 10/10.

Hahaha. What's that, you little halfbreed racist? Still hurting that your grandparents ran away from Poland instead of defending this glorious homeland?

yaya accusing him of being racist (typical nonsense).

UK has the second highest overall crime rate in Europe, and that violent attacks have increased by 77% between 1997 and 2009.[6]

In England and Wales, there were 880,000 "Violence against the person" crimes in 2008-9, equivalent to 16 per thousand people.

guardian.co.uk/uk/2007/feb/06/ukcrime.prisonsandprobation

compared too:

Crime in Poland is lower than in many countries of Western Europe.
The 2005 surveys placed Poland below the European average, with victimisation rate lower than in Ireland, England and Wales, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Estonia, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and Norway.[1] Newer studies (2009) report that the victimisation rate in Poland is constantly decreasing...

and dont get me started on USA.
they have like a bizillion people in prison.

so in summary PolskiMoc was right.

Westerners are way more criminal oriented,

Amen.

History / Kingdom of Poland Map [14]

euratlas.net/history/europe/1600/index.html

This is the best website I have found.
It shows Europe from 1AD-today
If you want to change the years just select it on the left hand side.

Life / How do you celebrate Easter in Poland? [29]

-- Attendance at Good Friday services (rarely)
-- making pisanki (parents do)
-- blessing of Easter baskets on Holy Saturday (parents do)
-- Easter breakfast (yes)
-- żur, hard-boiled eggs, kiełbasa, ham, pasztet, babka, mazurki, sernik, sękacz (of course!)
-- Wet Easter Monday (śmigus-dyngus) (when I was a child not now)

Feedback / Daily/Weekly Polls (suggestion) [19]

Was it the negative responses?

Was it a forum based poll where people expressed their issues?

Something else was wrong?

Feedback / Daily/Weekly Polls (suggestion) [19]

It would be nice if there was daily or weekly polls on this site.

Example:

How Polish are you?
1)I live in Poland/born in Poland
2)Born in Poland/live somewhere else
3)Born elsewhere/live in Poland
4)Have Polish family
5)I am not Polish

etc, etc. (Yes I know my example has flaws in it).

What do you think?

History / Der Spiegel: World War II articles [4]

There is a bunch of Ukrainian/German mixes here in Canada (and probably the US and elsewhere).
I wonder why?

And the same is true for Polish/German.
Such is life.

History / Poland's biggest historical blunder? [341]

Here is a photo of the Nazis meeting the Soviets on September 20th, 1939. It is even less than 3 weeks.
But still, I didn't mean to be derogatory here, MW.

There were still parts fighting after 3 weeks (I think in central Poland they meet but some corners had people fighting).

I just wanted to point out that pictures dont tell the whole story (in your case its probably legit)
Remember Italians took pictures of Polish cavalry and all that stuff which was just propaganda.
One time Polish cavalry beat a German infantry division and then tanks rolled in to massacre them.
(But the calvarly never charged the tanks or anything ridiculous like that).

News / Poland to scrap scholarships for 50,000 students [8]

Thats a nice building in that picture. Here the universities/colleges are ugly (on the outside).

I think people should not be excluded from post secondary because they are too poor.
I prefer a country that is literate and has education than some place in USA where soooo many people dont even go to post secondary.

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

Wow. PolskiMoc perfectly said really.

10/10

Oh but me questioning the Holocaust could land me in jail in some nations sadly by the Zyd control.

Thats so sad tbh.It just proves more that they are in control of things.
Here in Canada (the biggest pro-zionist country out there) instant jail + fines.
I think the same is true even for Germany. I mean look what has happened to Germany (and the rest of the world). Its completely 'controlled'.

Israel has Apartheid against Palestinians but that is okay!

Unfortunately true. When Jews kill its fine according to media "Self Defense". When someone has a bad opinion of Jews they get hanged by the balls.

62 million Slavs died in the Largely Jewish Bolshevik Revolution.

Its very very sad that people dont know this.

Lenin and Trotsky and many others all Athiest Jewish "Russians".

Enjoy :)

(Some morons think this is a conspiracy haha).

Genealogy / Do you think all Slavs are white? [178]

Im a Slav and if you saw me you would think im the whitest person on earth.

I would think the majority of slavs are 'white' but there has been a lot of mixes.

Life / Why are Polish people so obsessed with race? [160]

I hope the topic creator realizes that all these things were LONG before WWII, Nazis, Hitler, etc.
Secondly we hate Hitler and what we say has nothing to do with the Nazis.
In fact Polish people have like 1000 years of experience with Jews so we know what to say.

History / Poland's biggest historical blunder? [341]

We fought unlike many ***** countries. What the **** did your country do huh?
You sign a treaty for a reason. Every country would get invaded and ran over regardless of preparation.
Significant action? We fought. Plus Poland was the 4th largest ally contributor to the war even. We fought on more fronts than any allied country.

I dont think you understand the power of Germany and Russia and their numbers.

Poland prepared to the best of their abilities moron. Think of Russia vs Ukraine what would happen.
It would be like a fat guy sitting on an ant.

Well, there were no flies in Poland after 3 weeks.

Its called a resistance. We had the biggest one in Europe (AK, Bch which my grandparents were part of).
At the same time we had troops scattered throughout Europe.

Is there an ignore feature on this site? Too many idiots.

History / Poland's biggest historical blunder? [341]

Absolutely. The UK declared the war against the Nazis immediately after the attack, sent its troops during the war on the continent, gave the planes, weapons, food to the Polish soldiers and now this embarrassment of the XXI century quacks pathetically that the Britain did nothing. Shame. It isn't even worth wasting words.

Britain did almost nothing. Declaring war without SIGNIFICANT action is pointless.
They dropped a few fliers here and there and maybe bombed a few ships.
Quite a reaction by the Brits.

They gave planes, weapons, food, etc to Poles (and others) after France was raped but that was afterward. We are talking about 1939 here not 1940 or 1941.

Another reason they were giving Poles and other nations supplies was because Britain needed all the help it could get. If it wasnt an island it would be run over faster than Poland and France easily. A week tops :)

They sent troops to the war which then ran like flies to dunkirk and hell knows where.

Law / Does Poland have the most prehistorical and strictest banking system in the world? [57]

Here in Canada my last job paid in cheques. Its still one of the main to do things :|

My dad visited Poland first time in 25+ years and he basically said that parts of Poland were more advanced than NA and other European countries.

Its common sense that in Canada and US not everything is modern.

Language / How to pronounce the Polish word "w" in sentences? [15]

What does OP stand for? But yeah that's great information, thank you it helps a lot! I was listening to it on rosetta stone and I couldn't hear the w at all when they speak the sentences.

How is Rosetta stone? Do find it is good in learning languages like Polish?

News / IS Poland prepared for what is coming during the Euro 2012? [10]

First thing I really hope that both Poland and Ukraine actually get this thing done!
Ive heard that originally Ukraine was lagging in making stadiums.
Then I heard the problems about the hooligans in Poland.

I hope its a wonderful tournament. I am in Canada and we get bombarded by Hockey (which I dont mind) and a huge amount of nonsense: Baseball (the most boring sport in the world), Poker (its not even a sport), Darts (what a joke), etc. Its rare to see soccer here so basically I am stuck to watching the World Cup (Poland stopped being good in the 1970s, maybe 1980s and they dont make it often).

And there is also the Eurocup which is fun.

History / Poland's biggest historical blunder? [341]

The military and political chaos in 1939 was not different to 1940...France was deeply split and at each others throats. The communists were strong and the pro-Nazi forces too... it was a mess. They couldn't save themselves not to speak of other countries.

In 1939 German army was smaller and less advanced than by the time they invaded France.

History / Poland's biggest historical blunder? [341]

Much more than Poles?!?! Care to explain?

I am saying that Britain has killed far more people than Poland.
(North America natives, Africa, etc). Its common sense.
