@ Maxin: Obviously you were at the wrong moment at the wrong time, but the tendency is there that the so called social solidarity is fading. Everybody for himself and no help, especially in those situations expected. I'm really sorry for you.

What I described you with that guy and his omelett/ex-eye for a while happened to me as a German in Germany.

Perhaps youre a little skinny guy, in which case not much except a gun will make a difference.

I'm 199cm by 96kg and regular in gym. Swimmer/volleyball/basketball frame.
Don't like guns, whatsoever. Prefer avoiding tactics if possible...

stupid advice why?

Quite unreal that martial arts and all... Been in similar situation with no help, no self defends technics, just fists and surrounded by 5 guys. One got a smack on one eye, after that not being able to look for a couple of months :-)).

The rest of them were to much...no harm done though, 'cause the situation got disturbed...

I would suggest, if possible, to take lessons in sprinting from Usain Bolt :-))

Trust me, though not being long here, I know him enough. He's cool for me. Funny/sarcastic, entertaining, smart, open minded, creative...what else do you need more?

If youre scared to walk the streets i suggest you start some kind of martial arts training or better still boxing, if there is a next time you'll be able to hit the biggest one first and if that doesnt work - run like hell.

They do not deny, they simply use logic instead of 'believe' what even is not proven. Theories about that are out there. Ask 'believers' and they will tell you what the popes and priests told them. No critical thinking.

At the end everone decdes for himself what kind of picture of the world he wants o keep. ;-)

After all the some of anglo universities are good, very good. I had a couple of semesters in US on a scholarship. Did help a lot though when finishing in Germany.

Like earlier mentioned it's a question what subject you want to study, private or state university and of course how is your financial status. ;-)

And Poles know fully well all the west did or tried to do for Poland, but what it didn't do or didn't try is much more.

That was also my experience, especially coming there as a German...and on top of that talking business with them. I still have good friends there. Slavic people, also Poles, can forgive, maybe, but not forget. That's o.k. by me. It's what you learn from the past...

The picture probably most Poles of the West have is not so good, but as I said, if you are open minded trying to understand both sides of the story, the vodka will run all evening long :-))

In the middle of the 90's I traveled on business all over Poland and the poeple I met did not have any kind of reserves regarding history topic. They were keen on talking about it, especially in Schlesien but also in Gdansk.

That's the catch. ;-) They call you, invite you, but no explicite info given. I mean they give, but the ones THEY want to.

EU was/is not a band thing, but instead of keeping the ball low in terms of who is strongest(leader aspirations), the 'big three' are doing their own thing, completely forgetting that they need the 'small' ones.

Ego always first. Sad story...
The thing, that mandate of leader is changing every 6 months is some sad in the eyes...pure cosmetic.

Who knows if reforms will help the EU construction. Time will tell..until the next crisis is around the corner. ;-)

Your are describing the current status - even with EU money. Wow. What a success of EU funds...

If that money is so helpful, why do Poles still leave their country in order to find work elsewhere?

Russia defeated Germany on the east front. They crushed the once glorious 'Deutsche Wehrmacht' to the ground.

The red army was exhausted as everybody else...there wasn't much more to add.

That they stopped in Berlin was a deal with the US. Nothing more. They also captured Vienna. so much about being tired...
