Please, dont` mention my first name so often. I prefer to stay anonymous in the forum.

that's not ginger ale.

hmmm...

ginger ale is soda, not beer.

H,mmm, did I say it is beer? I only posted a picture of Ginger ale available in Poland. I can`t be held responsible for the producers who call it Ginger Beer.

a few companies make it here. here's one:

How much do they pay you for advertising their products? :):):):)

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

Thanks.

I have a problem though. Why does the 18 century list state that the Pau University in France was founded in 1722, while Pau`s Wiki entry states that its university was founded in 1972 ????

Your source:
1722[2] Pau France

Wiki entry:
The Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour, founded in 1972, means there is a high student population.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pau,_Pyr%C3%A9n%C3%A9es-Atlantiques

Sorry, judging by this falsification, I don`t believe your source.

Well, another truthful source is pending, I suppose.

PS. Besides, read carefully from your source:
The list of early modern universities in Europe comprises all universities which existed in the early modern age (1501-1800) in Europe. It also includes short-lived foundations and educational institutions whose university status is a matter of debate.

Language / Do you know what "farfocle" means? [11]

That`s coffee context. But quite correct.

In our family, we use the word in relation to small particles/pieces of tissue in juices. Farfocle in orange juice, for instance.

The point is Ukrainians never did develop a noteworthy culture of any sort

Of course you are wrong. Did you ever hear about Ukrainian cooperatives, very successful enterprises?

More: /wiki/Ukrainian_cooperative_movement

Sokrates, don`t you understand that Poles refuse to admit any Ukrainian development in the same way as Germans refuse to admit any civilisation created by Poles? Don`t be as silly as some silly Germans.

The point is Ukrainians never did develop a noteworthy culture of any sort

Really? So how was it possible they rejected the Polish culture?

History / Has Poland ever participated in any big wars (except WW2)? [73]

=scottie1113]The OP hasn't been back. Obvious troll to wind you guys up.

Nope. The OP was OK. It is Dr Rabbit who took an attempt at silly trolling.

=Seanus]The Cabbage War is ongoing. It's a civil war where grannies queue up, elbows at the ready, to claim their cabbage soup, stuffed cabbage rolls and stuffed pockets with cabbage. You'd never believe there was a national surplus!

:):):):):) Great.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

(special program launched around 2006 by the ministry to introduce English in grade 1; not sure about kindergartens)

Kindergartens are not comprised in the official curriculum yet. English classes are offered by private schools, average cost per a semester - 170 zlotys. Two 30-minute classes a week.

The general education system functioning in a given country doesn't have to be a major factor. First, I would try and consult local teachers whose recommendation I felt I could trust - and it would be a long chat.

I agree fully. Nothing really depends on the system, it is the particular teacher/teachers who is/are going to teach your kids.

shreds of paper / clothing etc.)

Yes, too, but we use it in different context here in southern Poland.
So, where are our farfocle ?

Work / Any (Solely) Anglophones that work in any other field other than teaching English? [3]

=EdWilczynski]I mean this board is strewn with English (practicing and prospective) teachers.

Funny. Whenever I read Polish social forums, the topics concerning teachers are always the hottest ones. Teachers prove their job is responsible and very difficult (today`s youngsters are a crazy pack of wild animals), while the opponents claim that teachers are the greatest parasites in the society and should be fired instantly for their laziness, lack of knowledge, poor education results, nasty attitude to students, ect etct etct et c.

Travel / What do you look for when planning a trip to Poland? [6]

They have maid service,

Do you require the maids to be pretty and in good shape?

Or maybe you are after some luxury treats? Do you look for information about well-known places? or do you want to see something different and extrodindnary?

Before I visit a new place in Poland, I google for information about local museums and historical places like castles, palaces, cemeteries, monuments, memorials, etc etc. I also google for info on amusement facilities for kids like playing grounds, fun parks, mazes, etc etc etc.

USA, Canada / Gift idea for something uniquely American that is difficult to find in Poland? [67]

=FUZZYWICKETS]Another great one to bring that i've never seen in Poland is Ginger Ale.

Of course it is available, by Polish producers, but it is an alien drink and Poles aren`t fond of it.

But, as a gift, a can or even a 6-pack is too cheap. I would be embarassed to offer someone a can of drink as a present. A small barrel of ginger ale might be much better.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

Both PJN and PIS come from the same abominable root. :):):)

Why not PiS?

I just can`t stand those hypocrites. They cry out loud about law and order, (PiS means Law and Justice) but it seems they think abiding law is good for others, not themselves.

Last Saturday, coming back to Warsaw from PiS convention in Wrocław, the chairman`s driver made a few dozen road offences. PiS spokesman denied it was his boss`s car.

Not only hypocrites, but also liars!

Actually, these 4 projects were highlighted to the court by PO as examples of PiS` lies. There was no need to discuss the remaining 95 out of 99.

USA, Canada / Gift idea for something uniquely American that is difficult to find in Poland? [67]

Hmm, what would I want as a unique gift for me?

I don`t need a green card. I am not fascinated by sports gear. All kinds of wine are available in Poland. Coke or other sodas are a joke. :):):) Keychains or mugs are for kids. T-shirts and other garment - too.

I just came back from holidays and on our last trip we visited the bison/buffalo farm. My kids got fascinated by the animals. So, I think I would like to get a bison. They are cheap and easily available in US.

It can be a baby bison, so that the cost of transport is still within the budget.
