Life / Health system in Poland - NFZ costs EU? [18]

Yes, for example here:
interpolska.pl/plain_site/Menu2/Ubezpieczenia-Zdrowotne/Dla-Ciebie/INTER-Vision-karta-na-zdrowie/Wiecej-o-produkcie/Zakres-ubezpieczenia

They don't show prices instantly, because it depends on how big coverage you need. But dental insurances are not very popular in Poland, as prices are 2nd lowest in the EU (after Hungary and maybe Romania and Bulgaria)

here is list of companies providing insurances:

zdrowotne.ubezpieczenie.com.pl/prywatne_ubezpieczenia_zdrowotne_8211_leczenie_dentystyczne/31,1082.html

Love / Left Poland when young, did I leave half my heart? [7]

Consider renting your house instead of selling. Then you can easily come back. Many Polish man would be ready to emigrate with you back to Canada. Emigration is cool these days. People don't see the point to work for 3 x less than behind the border.

Life / Health system in Poland - NFZ costs EU? [18]

Does the NFZ insurance cover everything for dental work or will I still pay a portion of my treatment? If yes, how much??

NFZ covers 100% of all basic treatments. But there is not much of what they consider basic. Here is the list:
stomatologiainfo.eu/stomatologia-na/

I think I might need to replace a crown or two. What shall I expect in terms of money and procedure??

I think they don't cover that. Here you can see prices of some random dentist:

Real Estate / Where can I find a nice area to rent a studio or one-bedroom apartment in or near Katowice? [48]

People don't recommend, because for all cities except of the capital 40min commuting is considered quite long in Poland. But it's not so bad if it's door to door time, as it's my current commuting time. I cannot tell you which cities in GOP are better or worse. I don't know this region good enough.

I couldn't find average rents in GOP, but I've found average buying price per m2. Probably there is correlation with rents:

Work / Living in Lublin (as a teacher)!? [36]

age for Senior IT specialist?)Thanks in advance.

4000 PLN would be enough. It's quite common salary for such position, especially that Lublin isn't top payed city.

The pay in IT

From the observation of market salaries that IT is one of the highest paid professions . What's more demand for IT workers has been a very large not only in the IT industry, but also in other sectors of the economy . This fact makes the person who completed the study information should not have trouble finding work.

The report shows that, regardless of the economic situation and despite the crisis , people working in IT should have reason to complain . Almost every other computer scientist in 2013 earned more than the year before . Only 8 % of respondents admitted that their total remuneration decreased . Data on changes in wages of IT workers in 2013 compared to the previous year is presented in Figure 1.

Classifieds / Immigration lawyer in Poznan needed (English speaking) [22]

Is it connected with: I was fined for not having a tram ticket. How does this affect me?

prawo.money.pl/bazy-teleadresowe/prawnicy/piotr;matysiak;kancelaria;radcow;prawnych,poznan,adres,79.html

it seems that for most of lawyers immigration law is just one of many specialities.

Real Estate / Where can I find a nice area to rent a studio or one-bedroom apartment in or near Katowice? [48]

Contracts are mandatory, as you are obliged to register yourself in Place of your stay (en.your poland/178_residence-registration-duty.html) and for that renting contract is needed.

Do you think I will be the subject of racist groups if I rent in one of these areas?

There are some places, usually around high block buildings, where it's not save even for people from other neighborhood.

I saw your links and actually found some apartments in Chorzow for only 300 Zl. Why is it so bad to rent there?

It's not realistic price The place would have to be very tiny ( like 16m^2) or be in devastated or have extremely high heating costs ( that can be if windows are old, building is not insulated and there is no central or gas heating )

Do you think 5 days are enough to find a suitable place in or around Katowice?

I don't have big experience of renting in Poland, but I would reserve 2 weeks for myself to be comfortable. And you need to find some translator first as not everybody will speak English.

Law / Ways of getting Permanent residency in Poland [101]

I guess they look if the person was registered in Poland for the whole time and was insured. Perhaps they check data about leaving Schengen during that time.

And not EU spouses of Poles can get this permit after 3 years I think and they're controlled at home by border guards to find fake marriages.

Real Estate / Where can I find a nice area to rent a studio or one-bedroom apartment in or near Katowice? [48]

You can rent online through airbnb.com. Search for min 1 month in advance and min 1 month renting period, then you will see cheaper prices. It's good to have some place to go after landing in Poland. When here then start searching for apartments yourself with somebody who could translate you.

Yes you can live in Chorzów or Sosnowiec, but then commuting time will be longer. These cities are connected with buses. For checking commuting times use: gop.jakdojade.pl/?locale=en to see commuting times.

Katowice and cities surrounding are called GOP: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Silesian_Industrial_Region

As for renting here you have big database of ads. Here you see studios only: gumtree.pl/fp-mieszkania-i-domy-do-wynajecia/katowice/c9008l3200285?A_NumberRooms=10

Taking as an example this add:
gumtree.pl/cp-mieszkania-i-domy-do-wynajecia/katowice/mieszkanie-na-os-sadyba-katowice-panewniki-609807732

Landlord is saying here that the price is 1050 including heating (probably central heating), what is important, because it can be quite expensive during winter.
The price doesn't include water, electricity, gas. He doesn't mention "czynsz", so it's probably included in price.

Other add: gumtree.pl/cp-mieszkania-i-domy-do-wynajecia/katowice/kawalerka-po-kapitalnym-remoncie-bez-posrednikow-tanio-608186967

Costs 800zł + czynsz 400zł + utilities + heating costs.

Agents are not very popular for renting, but if you get one, then you will have to pay him.
Usual is 1 month rent caution.

Work / Moving to Lodz - will my 2500 PLN salary be enough? [52]

Here you have prices compariosn Berlin vs £ódź:

2505 is enough for a single person to live comfortable in £ódź, although you will not be able to save any money.
You can rent studio for 1000 - 1500 PLN easily: gumtree.pl/fp-mieszkania-i-domy-do-wynajecia/lodz/c9008l3200183?AdType=2

Food in Poland has similar prices to discounters in Germany. Fruits, vegetables and meat products are substantially cheaper. Same about cigarettes.

Work / Salary and cost of living information - Krakow [257]

Look at this website for prices comparison. Here you have prices comparison New York vs Kraków:

Consumer Prices Including Rent in Krakow (Cracow) are 65.62% lower than in New York, NY

So if you were living in New York, you could move to Kraków, get 66% lower salary and live on similar level. Other way to look at it is that if you were moving from New York to Kraków you could spend 66% less money and still live on similar level. It doesn't take into account your lack of knowledge of the country, so probably you would have to spend more. This estimation takes into account buying mostly local products rather than imported. This website is rather correct about renting prices.
