That is disconnected from reality. People don't have a preference for the long commute in and out of the city; they live further away and commute long distances primarily due to budget constraints. It is simply cheaper to live further away from the city. FYI: the asking prices for rentals of newer 50 square meter 2BR apartments in Warsaw today exceed the average net income of a Polish family. So you would specifically like to make people with lower income pay more and people with higher income pay less?
Another aspect, businesses in Warsaw NEED people from outside to come to work.
On the other hand, synchronizing traffic lights is simple and cheap but there is simply no will to do it...
make public transport in Warsaw free for people who pay their taxes here and fund that by jacking up the price of tickets for everybody else

I agree about traffic jams, and I add environmental cost in terms of added pollution, but what about the places they rent or buy in Warsaw, aren't these properties taxed by the city? What about their employers in Warsaw, don't they pay some taxes?

Still, Warsaw is in the top 10 most congested...
But they did not take into consideration some major cities from South and East Asia or even certain African cities - which is like the "traffic" equivalent of " ranking the world's top football teams" without taking into consideration European and South American teams.
Traffic any given day in Cairo is at least as bad as Los Angeles (I say this from the commuter's point of view since I spent time in both places), and let's not get started with cities within the Indian subcontinent...

Shame that a total of 20+% have voted for populism. What is the singer's program? Absolutely nothing! A mere singer with no experience whatsoever makes 20% is really terrifying and I am shocked. PIS are full of extremists but better PIS than cheap populism.

Again, I will stand neutral on this simply because I don't know enough about the personal history of everyone in every political party to even comment.
There is a good saying that about this subject. When you dig you get dirt. This holds true for everyone and politicians (of every ilk) are no exception. If someone with enough determination and enough resources wants to dig dirt on anyone then they will find dirt. It is as simple as that.
Having said that, I believe that justice should be served including for crimes committed during communism. If you know someone that committed crimes during communism and got away with it, then you should present your evidence to the concerned prosecutor, preferably instead of casting a wide net of accusations in the face of several million people democratically represented by this or that party.
Assume that I am an average Joe with no detailed knowledge concerning the background of each candidate - which is a very common type of average Joe here in Poland and worldwide for that matter. All I know is that there are elections and that candidates have presented agendas/pledges of some sort for the public to evaluate and cast their votes accordingly (in the simplest possible terms). From my perspective today, the only agenda I saw from Duda is to discredit Komorowski and trash everything achieved by his party. I can't see how Poland will move forward when the people in charge have such an agenda - or in fact no real agenda.

Not to disagree with the quoted statement (I stand neutral on that), and I sincerely mean no offense, but what century are you living in? I am legally old enough to be a grandfather, and my father who is more than double my age and has seen WW2 does not talk like that. Even my grandfather - who was captured by the Nazis and survived to tell his tale - never talked like that, and he passed away in the 1990s due to natural causes! ie. he was very old!!!
Unless you are older than 85-90 then you are mentally stuck in some history book. And while it is good and admirable to know history, it is not good to get stuck living in it. I know that change is hard to accept for some or most people, but if you fail to keep up with times then times will simply pass you by and leave you stumbling in their wake to say the least...
I live in Poland and I struggle with corruption that you mentioned somewhere on daily basis. Yet I fail to understand how can you possibly blame problems that occurred in every communist or ex-communist country on Komorowski or his party. If anything I am witnessing slow but constant improvement on this and basically every other aspect of life in Poland. If you expect any country to rise up and recover from several decades of communism overnight then you are delirious (for lack of a better word), especially when the benchmark being used is Western Europe, which is THE wealthiest and most socially and economically developed group of countries! This recovery needs decades, not years.

No that is horrible news. That is the worst news I heard since the reelection of George W Bush in 2004. The only thing that is worse is the fact that 4.4% of votes went for Korwin! (what the hay?!?)
Anyway Duda will be crushed in the second round because most people that voted for Kukiz will probably switch to Komorowski in the next round.

Law / Obtaining PESEL, ID Card and Passport in Poland [39]
Yes it is possible, and I know this because I went through the procedure for my own child who was also born abroad.
In addition to getting the temporary passport (I assume with 1 year validity?) you will need to go to the Polish embassy or consulate and fill + sign some forms, at least three times - once to apply for the Polish birth certificate, another time to apply for the PESEL number, and another time to apply for a regular passport. They are separate procedures, and the birth certificate must be issued and received before you can apply for the PESEL, which in turn must be issued before you can apply for a regular passport. For some documents BOTH parents must be present to sign at the embassy, so it is better if both of you go together each time.
However it takes a rather long time. From the day we filed the first application to the day we received a regular passport it took about 8 months.
finally, I did this 3 years ago and I cannot guarantee procedures have not changed since! Ask at the embassy.
If you are able to travel to Poland (either parent) the entire procedure can be done within 2 weeks. The UK birth certificate translated to Polish and attested plus a certified (by a notary) and attested (by Foreign Ministry + Polish Embassy) copy of the non-Polish parent's passport needs to be presented. Ask your spouse to call the registration office in their area and ask what are the current document requirements.

Welcome to a hybrid system between value based and politically motivated procurement in a world of increasingly open markets.
Remember, two tenders were awarded, the anti ballistic missile defense (ABM for short) awarded to Raytheon USA and the helicopters awarded to Airbus France.
I say politically motivated because while the chosen ABM is capable and battle proven, in terms of value it is a tough sell against competitors from... Let's just say our Eastern Neighbors, whom were not invited to bid. And the main competitor it had comes from the country which won the other tender so...
I say value based because the Airbus offer met the technical requirements at the lowest price, and comes from a country that belongs to many of the same blocks (EU, NATO, EEA, etc etc etc). So the local competitor (supposedly) failed to achieve the same balance.
By the way, I am stating neither agreement nor disagreement with the choices that were made. Just putting some food for thought and discussion on the table.

Amit, kaisa ho? do a research on what the average going salary for the position in the local market (many large agencies publish such reports annually in English, and they even give separate numbers for each major city) and find out where you stand. The apartment you are looking for is big by local standards. Let me give you some numbers to help you establish a baseline. The numbers I am going to list are monthly, including tax and in PLN.
Rent for 60-80 sqm apartment: About 2000-3000 (check what is included and what is not included in the rent agreement!)
Groceries for 2 adults and 1 child: About 1200-2000
Power + Gas + Water + Heat etc: About 400-800
Bus passes for 2 adults and 1 child: About 600-750 every 3 months so about 200-250 monthly
Mobile phone plan with data access: 50-100
Home Phone with internet: 75-100 (more if including TV channels)
Clothes: bring with you from India. Have an extra box shipped if you have to.
Meal outside for 3: McDees 45-60, decent local place 75-150. Not including alcohol. Finding veg/vegan cuisine can be challenging in some areas if this is of concern to you.
Fuel for a small car: assuming consumption 6L/100km diesel, assuming PLN 5 per L, PLN 300 per 1000 km. Parking in some areas can be expensive. Car rental is stupidly expensive. Buying a second hand car might be more financially sound. Insurance for owners without local license can be difficult or expensive to buy though. Stick to public transit whenever possible.

good - English speaking school costs in Warsaw min. 1,000 usd/euros (not zl) per month (British and American schools, several times that)

Many people have a similar salary and they are doing fine. You can always adjust your lifestyle to fit within your income.
And regarding racism, it is not a problem in bigger towns like Krakow or Warsaw, and even in smaller towns, people may stare or be curious if you look very different, but things rarely go beyond that. Like jon357 said earlier, use common sense. Avoid bad areas, especially at night. Avoid groups of drunk young men, especially gatherings associated with football and around nightclubs. Avoid demonstrations. Etc Etc Etc.
By the way, before someone jumps to tell me that I don't know what I am talking about, I live in Poland with my family and I have Middle Eastern heritage.
I never experienced anything negative due to my heritage. And I spend about 50% of my working hours in small towns. The most intense thing I ever experienced due to my heritage was intense curiosity :)

Excellent question. Owning a limited liability company (sp. z o.o.) in Poland does not automatically mean that you are entitled to work in Poland.
There are several options in terms of how to proceed from there. In my opinion, all options are complicated and require relatively deep pockets, because you are looking at being treated as a foreign investor who wants to run his own company instead of a foreign worker. Therefore your company must either have a considerable investment or a considerable audited income.
Take my advice from this point and ask a lawyer. They know all the loopholes and pitfalls which I won't be able to explain to you, simply because I am not a lawyer.
Resources available online on this specific subject in English were (the last time I checked, 3 years ago) limited and/or inaccurate and/or outdated.

As far as I know, non-EU nationals cannot register as a one person company in Poland, with few exceptions for nationals of countries that have special agreements with Poland (exceptions include nationals of Switzerland for example).
This was the case when I registered my own company in Poland around 3 years ago and I don't know if things have changed since.
However, you CAN register a limited liability company that you own 100%. But keep in mind that tax related formalities and opening of bank accounts may be problematic in some cases or with particular banks (I did not hear about nationals of India facing these problems though).
Aren't you the person who was given a residence card with the wrong place of birth last year? I am curious what was the outcome of that?

This was the case when I registered my own company in Poland around 3 years ago and I don't know if things have changed since.
However, you CAN register a limited liability company that you own 100%. But keep in mind that tax related formalities and opening of bank accounts may be problematic in some cases or with particular banks (I did not hear about nationals of India facing these problems though).
Aren't you the person who was given a residence card with the wrong place of birth last year? I am curious what was the outcome of that?

I strongly suggest you ask a lawyer since this may involve different interpretation of the law or maybe a particular article of the law (could be in the same or in another legal gazette) that determines whether the new law applies to cases where the divorce took place before the law went into effect.
