Life / Where to buy a good dog for a good price in Warsaw? [12]

We are so proud that the first step you made in your quest has led you here, to the Polish forum.

And we are so happy to be able to help you.

Here is a Polish site in English. If they don`t say the price, ask them by phone or mail.

Life / Is Gdansk or Wroclaw better for social and nightlife during the autumn and winter in Poland? [6]

If I were you, I would choose Gdansk. It is on the coast which gives the city the atmosphere of freedom and relaxation. According to polls, residents of Gdynia and close cities are the happiest in Poland. Probably due to the sea proximity, they don`t feel so limited and constrained like people in inland places.

Another very important aspect is that the sea breeze or stronger winds get rid of pollution in Tri city quite effectively. Wrocław isn`t so lucky.

Besides, there are a few marine universities in Tri city. Students who study there are very open minded people, I met a few and they think globally. But I supose that can be said about any uni city in Poland, although to a little lesser extent. .

Travel / Maybe visiting Warsaw next summer - or to choose Bulgaria? [26]

I think his options have been Warsaw vs. Sofia, but not Warsaw vs. Bulgarian beaches.

Yes, you are right, now I can see it.

For me Baltic Coast is better as you have this pleasantly chilly sea to sink in when it is so hot on the beach.

But fauna is better in Bulgaria - I loved those funny crabs.

Life / Is Gdansk or Wroclaw better for social and nightlife during the autumn and winter in Poland? [6]

I was waiting for sb else to offer a better answer.

Nobody?

Both Gdańsk and Wrocław are big cities with rich culture, history, entertainment facilites etc etc plus a lot of young people, especially uni students. The action in both is all year round, except that in winter time outdoor events slow down which is obvious.

Pasaż Niepolda isn`t the only party place in Wrocław, it is popular but not unique. Google clubs in Wrocław.

If you are from the Netherlands, where do you live? On the coast or inland? Depending on your home place, I would recommend you to choose the opposite location in Poland. Just for the fun of experiencing diversity.

Remember, diversity rulez!

Love / I want my Polish gf to live with me but she says life here is too hard [31]

The simple logic says that even despite its age, this thread still possesses a topic. Won˛t you agree?
Or do you want to suggest that such problems no longer trouble people today? And people deal only with the issue of global warming, illegal immigrants and Kremlin trolls influencing democratic elections ?

She would use it as a weapon during each and every argument.

Better this than plates, mugs or other kitchen utensils. Not to mention a rolling pin. This image of a bad, pissed off wife armed with a rolling pin is an archetypal symbol in the Polish culture. There are thousands jokes about it.

Life / Air shows in Poland are annoying [23]

It appears that they use old junky planes also.

No, most of those planes are designed for air acrobatics and are very well maintained for obvious reasons.

Polish pilots have a horrible reputation around the world as well.

Really? I didn`t know about it.

Love / My husband going to Poland after gotten his green card. Dreading his visit home to mom. [20]

Conversely, women want to change men after marriage

Yes, many women make this mistake. It isn`t their fault, they are simply too optimistic when they believe it is possible. Of course it`s not. Worse, the man who tried to control himself before the marriage,, now shows all his true vices and shortcomings.

Some people say - lets get rid of marriages at all and the problems will disappear. But it isn`t so simple.

USA, Canada / How long a Pole can stay in the United States? I need clarity on immigration laws in the US and Poland [8]

It shows you never belonged here.

Yes, exactly. I could never become an expat anywhere, I am just too Polish for that.

And it paid $10.6k a year. Not bad back in 1967. My first brand new car: Chevrolet Caprice in 1967, or three months after arrival.

So, you left communist Poland and relocated to paradise. While we had to suffer in the tyranny, being happy with a single herring for 5 people at Christmas Eve. . It was unfair. :):)

But today it is a paytime and the roles have reversed. Poland is independent and developing fast, while the USA has a migration problem and other as well. :):)

Stick to the topic, please

Love / I want my Polish gf to live with me but she says life here is too hard [31]

for the rest of your life you will hear that you ruined hers..

Hmm, I wonder what else your wife tells you during your arguments. But sooner or later, you will tell us. :):)

(1) women fight dirty, and (2) they always lie.

It is a normal female strategy (due to biological reasons) and there is no need to make hallo about it. Men just need to get used to it.

BTW, males also lie like crazy, so it is not only a female busines.

Work / Salary 18000 pln per month in Gdansk [10]

2500 PLN is not sufficient for decent accommodation including bills?

Yes, it is but for one bedroom only, if we talk about a good district. Two bedroom as Dominic suggested might be cheaper as you want but in the suburbs without too many facilities around.

What is this cost?, Company is offering to bear the visa/permit etc. cost and offering to pay relocation cost.

So skip this cost. Simple.

he new ones like residential flats, we have the more colorful but Poland has gray or plain white ones. They look so sterile!

Unfortunately, you have old data. Some communist-like grey blocks remained, indeed, but many are so colourful architects already started complaining about pastel disease.

Life / Air shows in Poland are annoying [23]

The noise from their fun is unbearable.

Well, cities are generally noisy places, so it is not a problem.

planes and cities don't mix. Aircraft shows are now banned from UK towns and cities. I would hate to have to say "Told you so..".

That is indeed a problem. Sometimes the planes fly almost over people`s heads.
A few years ago, after the show finished. a small overloaded plane crashed in Krakow, the pilot died, luckily he hit the trees.

Food / Polish culinary dislikes [83]

These are some of the things I have found most Poles do not fancy when they first try them.

Of course, it is a very individual matter.

I agree with the following in your list that I have tried:

- licorice
- whiskey
- marshmallows
- mint sauce (to accompany mutton)

No to the following which I always found pleasant or even fascinating to my taste buds.
- maple syrup
- peanut butter
- snails
- frog legs
- squid
- mutton
- Mexican food in general

News / Shouldnt Poland be invited into the G-20? [7]

Optimistic forecasts from this year predict that Poland might join G-20 in 2029.

businessinsider.com.pl/finanse/makroekonomia/polska-w-g20-prognozy-pie/0x8pjbl

the World Bank now ranks Poland as the 18th largest economy in the world.

It is outdated. This year we are ranked 23th economy.

Life / Lack of Spacial Acuity in Poland [69]

Private zone in Polich culture is slightly smaller than in UK, but luckily for us - still greater than in Latin American or Arab culture.

It depends on an individual. My private zone is quite wide. In class, I always get anxious when a student shows an intention to sit at the desk next to my table - I usually ask them to move back. If the group is too big and there are no free seats, I move the table away from the student`s desk. The same when students crowd around me to ask about sth or see the test results - I feel very uneasy and usually tell them to step back a little.

So, Polish culture or not, some things are not so simple as one might imagine.

Life / Drinking games in Poland [44]

Hmm, I think drinking games aren`t Polish tradition. There is one fekking rule - no joking with alcohol. In communist times, when one played with such serious stuff as alcohol, they could have their face messed up by annoyed companions. I found it the book Alibi by Bogdan Loebl from 1960s.

Language / WHY THE HELL CANT I LEARN POLISH?? [64]

I TRY everyday im learning these sentences and using them and waking up next morning not remembering one bloody word

It is like with music or singing talent. Few people have amazing talents, most average and some lousy,. It also applies to foreign language learning and practically all activities in life.

Food / Grog recipe [3]

Anyone got a good recipe for making grog?

Hmm, I wouldn`t dare to provide a recipe for that English drink. Don`t teach father how to make children. I am sure our British members, especially sailors, know a lot of good recipes.

Rest boiling hot water

Hmm, the oiriginal recipes for grog didn`t suggest using hot water, it seems a modern invention. How do you drink your grog today?

Food / Adwokat vodka with egg yolk [16]

I think the correct name should be "Advocaat" (and it's a liquor, not vodka).

Advokaat is a tasty liqueur. I like it cause I have a sweet tooth for everything, even alcohol. However, its creamy substance is a little problem - instead of gulping it in a quick shot, you wait and wait till the content of the glass runs down into the mouth. What a waste of time. It doesn`t concern pure vodka or whisky which can be drunk in a quick mode. Life is too short for such lazy drinks.

But as a flavouring/stuffing to pralines or icecream - it is irreplaceable.

Food / 'de volaille' - I need the recipe for what sounds like devil eye?? [9]

Probably nice but it is certainly not my fav. I only eat it when visiting family. I don`t know but I have always been suspicious about rolled or stuffed meat. Probably some prejudice from communist times when such a roll/stuffing contained various strange things. .

Kurczak de volaille

Who here watch "M Jak Milosc" or "Klan"? :D

Świat według Kiepskich...

Zlotopolski","Ranczo",(The Ranch

Plebania

I never watched a full episode of any of those soaps. I don`t watch TV at all. For many years, when I lived on my own before getting married, I didn`t have a TV set.

People who find those things fascinating are....... Never mind.

Food / Where can I buy Fresh Trout (Pstrąg) in or around Kraków? [6]

Trout, yes. Fresh trout, probably not

Fresh normally means not frozen. The OP didn`t mention he expected "super duper fresh trout straight from the pond". :):) He clearly wrote: in or around Krakow.

Dollars to doughnuts, those you see in the hypermarkets have had their gills cut out.

No, they don`t have time to play such games with fish. :):) When it is past its date, they simply throw it out or the supplier takes it. :):)

Trout starts deteriorating very quickly once it is killed..

Hmm, I thought it applies to all fish, not only trout. :):)

A good rule to follow is never buy a trout you have not personally seen alive and kicking.

You advise to use super fresh fish rule but still you seem to talk about farm trout. That is a major misundestanding. If you want real quality trout, catch it yourself instead of buying farm trash.

Also, please stop resurrecting long dead threads.

I am a free man and I do what I like. Any fekkkking problem with that? :):)

HA!

Travel / Is there a good ski resort in Poland? [13]

which far outshines Zakopane

Zakopane offers good facilities and great views but is tragically congested. I would recommend looking for less popular places.

This article below recommends other places:

Food / Quick- What's the warm beer and wine called? [5]

Quick- What's the warm beer and wine called?

Actually, they are not warm but almost hot, taken off the cooker just before boiling time.

Hot wine with spices is OK. But hot beer is simply a scandal. What, warm beer? łożeszwkurwęjebanamać. Beer. Beer should be cold, 8, max 9 degrees. And this? Bill, please.

Food / Need some Polish dessert recipes [47]

Can anyone give me a recipe for a dessert that would be good for this situation?

A quick aid might be 10 recipes for Polish basic cakes:

thespruceeats.com/top-polish-dessert-recipes-1136991

For class conditions, I would recommend recipe No 1 - chrust/faworki. Students can eat it with their hands.
