News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

People of any profession can be fooled by glib, slick, fast-talking demogogues

Jaro and his awful gang, and the 18% of people who voted for them are certainly proof of that

News / WOSP Poland charity - is it value for money? [60]

The successful fund-raising and the worthwhile causes it serves are not questioned.

One would hope not.

additional sociopathic climates to deprave minors

This phrase makes no sense whatsoever.

Young people think up enough weird and risky things on their own

Quite. Which is why it's so heartwarming to see so many young (and not so young) people coming together to help raise money for charity under the aegis of something as thoroughly wholesome and respected as WOŚP and incomprehensible that you would criticise a decent charity.

Not much of a reply, is it, Po3...

Hilarious to see you describe some of the people who attend the Polish pro-democracy rallies (among my own circle of friends who always attend there are several doctors, several lawyers, a retired theatre director, an Armia Krajowa veteran, a couple of scientists and a Catholic Priest) as "rabble".

No need, Po3 - it's very clearly written in the language I speak all day every day.

And nothing there to suggest that Poland's most popular charity telethon is "depraving" minors in any way.

Just your own hatred and hysteria.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

just because PiS have been organising heavily stage managed "demonstrations" for 8 years doesn't mean that everyone else is, too.

Exactly. Another good day of pro-democracy protests and it looks like this will be a regular feature until democracy is restored.

Anyway, today has been a resounding success.

Yes, successful. About being better organised, the momentum within the pro-democracy movement is amazing considering it's spontaneous and without anyone pulling strings.

News / Poland's PIS go back to their old ways [194]

Sources statistics please

Ask at your local social services office. If they aren't too busy dealing with all the problem families and abused kids.

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

i just what to know what the life of a jew in poland would be like

Now or pre-Shoah?

Nowadays, just like anyone living anywhere in Europe. Before the war however when the community (communities) were much larger was a different story. Hopefully the community will grow again. Anti-semitism is alive and well sadly however as educational standards slowly improve and exposure to other cultures grows, this is slightly decreasing.

Remember also that the way people live in Warsaw and what happens out in the sticks is very different.

we all take care of the children.

All 38+ million plus those abroad identifying as Poles?

Remember that Social Services are as busy dealing with neglected and abused children in Poland as they are anywhere else..

That and the extremely high incidence of children born with Foetal Alcohol Syndrome meaning that very large amounts of strong alcohol (not just a few beers or wines each day) were drunk during pregnancy.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

The reason is that they dislike the present government.

As do most people; hence the massive number of pro-democracy protestors.

No, many were not even born or were young kids during the 1980s so they couldn't have protested against PRL tyranny.

And some were middle-aged then, but although tyranny can persist, so does the nation. And Poland is resolutely pro-democracy.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

So these better educated people are freezing in the cold without knowing what end-scenario options their KOD leaders are proposing?

'These'? A very big 'these', thousands of these awkward pro-democracy Poles...

The protestors are their for the best possible reasons. Most protested against tyranny once before.

The majority of voters who voted voted against PiS.

And this is something that the PiSuarzy would love to be untrue....

The Pro-Democracy campaigners are certainly better informed than you suggest. Certainly on the whole better educated and more worldly than the PiS demographic.

Interesting times and heartwarming to see so many people keen to defend and promote democracy and reject nationalism.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

This will happen. We can be sure the PiS controlled IPN will be useless, however the pro-democracy movement is a strong one; certainly stronger than PiS and the truth will come out over the course of the next few months.

History / Rajmund Kaczyński not in PZPR [43]

The issue is entirely about Kaczynski Senior. The matter is fishy to say the least; has been asked for some years now without a satisfactory answer. And doesn't look like it's going away any time soon.

A lot of questions here about something very murky.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Well, for a start those two parties tend to not completely ignore the specific and direct instructions of the constitution; PIS, unfortunately, does.

PiS are on the left on a few issues, hence in part the pro-democracy movement

Life / Polish attitudes toward cancer [6]

Merged:

Cancer boy found in Poland

At least he's being brought back. Apparently the parents preferred "Chinese medicine".,,

A missing 10-year-old boy with cancer in his jaw who needs urgent surgery has been traced to Poland and could be back in the UK by Christmas, a family court has heard.

Specialists had told Mr Justice Mostyn that the boy would die a "brutal and agonising death" within six months to a year if a tumour was not removed very soon. And concerns were raised in October when Mostyn heard that the boy, who is Polish but cannot be identified, had disappeared.

News / Polish university professor who plotted to assassinate the former president jailed [14]

It's taken a while to get to court but here it is.

Good riddance.

A university professor in Poland who plotted to blow up the Polish parliament building and assassinate the former president and prime minister has been sentenced to 13 years in jail on charges relating to terrorism.
Brunon K, 48, was convicted of planning to assassinate the president, prime minister and members of parliament in 2012. All steps taken by Brunon Kwiecien related to the attack on parliament were driven by his wish to lead a revolution, to kill the president, cabinet ministers and lawmakers.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Doesn't look like that in Poland.

The current chaos sums it up really. There's a lot of discussion in Germany now about the Polish pro-democracy rallies and the news coverage worldwide will only increase.

The effects of that on the financial markets, tourism and inward investment remains to be seen.
