Feedback / Suggestions by members to make PF more user friendly and entertaining. [81]

then this indicates there is enough such content routinely generated for an entirely independent, yet active, site.

Feel free to make one.

not everyone wants to read about Muslims, migrants, rape gangs etc on more or less every thread

Sometimes one wonders if this is about PL or about people's morbid fantasies about human migration, mad mullahs and dusky men with bigger todgers than them stealing 'their' women.

Polands' conservative social fabric

Or even Poland's centuries old liberal tradition.

Law / Identity Theft Laws and Situation in Poland? [9]

So he/she had to pay it back, no identity stolen defense? thats horrible

She was killed, presumably by the person/people who'd stolen her ID card and taken out a whole raft of loans. Sadly.

and that if someone stole your identity and got a loan etc you were liable.

Yes. This can still happen. It happened to a family member of someone I know. That was about 5 years ago.

The process of adapting regulations are ongoing, however anything involving banking is a slower process.

Real Estate / Lease contract with no renewal clause in Poland [7]

It would be proof that you've paid to be there, regardless of written contract. Remember that written contracts are only as good as their ability to be legally enforced. He could chuck you out with one or without one, and you'd need to go to court afterwards.

If you have proof of payment however (even if the written contract has expired), it's unlikely he'd dare; the police could prevent him from doing that. Worth mentioning that these situations are rare and are never the first chapter of the story.

If however you think that this is even a remote possibility, your relationship with the person you rent from isn't that healthy. If he's ok however, and there is trust (more important that any piece of paper), you should be OK.

Real Estate / Lease contract with no renewal clause in Poland [7]

When I rented, there was no renewal clause however I stayed a few years.

but I am afraid that he could kick me out in case it was convenient for him

Always a risk with rentals, however assuming you have up to date proof of payment (never pay cash!) he would find it inconvenient to kick you out suddenly.

Language / I'm Moving from UK To Poland to learn Polish and live there [11]

PLN1000 a month wich is circa £1000.

It's actually about £200 a month, and not very much at all in Poland.

There are a lot of English-speakers in Poland, some of them locals with a high level of English, some long-term foreign residents who speak Polish.

History / Why is Poland weaker than Russia? [390]

The Russian economy is still based on primitive resource extraction

Henry Kissinger's famous quoue about Russia: "Upper Volta plus nuclear weapons" still stands true. Except Upper Volta is of course now called Burkino Faso.

no, I mean that pierogi ruskie means 'ruthenian pierogies'

I think we're at cross-purposes. It's the word 'ruskie' in the name that she disliked; although educated, I doubt she knew the origin of the dish's name.

A weak stock market means weak Polish companies.

And increases the cost of government borrowing. Something that does matter to the more vulnerable parts of Poland B.

Time was (in the failed PiS/Samoobrona/LPR) era that their board of directors was like a carousel. People hopping on and being pushed off more or less constantly.

wasn't Russian but Ruthenian... Rusyn

I think it's the name that gave her the habdabs rather than the origin.

Growing up around Ukranians, I just knew them as pierogi.

History / Why is Poland weaker than Russia? [390]

Most in PL, as demonstrated by CBOS polls, have a distaste for Russia. Understandable given their treatment of Poland and Ukraine.

some of tye most unique

WTF...

History / Why is Poland weaker than Russia? [390]

It's more about desperation and lack of opportunities/hope as well as crushingly dull small town/village life in Russia. You used to see something similar in Poland until a few years ago, however increased affluence and sophistication have vastly reduced that sort of thing.

Life / Looking for a hilly Polish town with commie flats [6]

the term used in Poland is 'deska' (plank, board)

He probably means Wielki Płyty.

There are tons of towns with hills and large housing estates, Olkusz for example, and many more.

The street also had parkings nearby the flats with thouse pavements that have holes like theres:

Could be one of thousands of streets in PL. Do you know which region?

as well as worldscale mafia. it would be pretty cool actually

There's no significant appetite in Poland for closer links with the gangster state that is Russia.

Nah, that he is not. Once he was exposed to the market his firm hit a hard rock bottom

You're contradicting yourself in that statement.

He was in jail for some internal commie squabble

Rubbish. He was interned with all the other dissidents. Certain people of course were Nonenklatura and above the law. Like so many PuS supporters.

If feminism was about women fighting for equal rights i

That's all it is at heart. In Poland there's still a long way to go (PiS are seriously suggesting that men beating their wives for the first time should be a civil law matter - we can expect huge protests about this).

unlike in western Europe where 'feminists' seem to be more associated with LGBT issues.

That's simply untrue.

sheesh he is a commie no doubt

No, he's certainly capitalist and was jailed for opposing the ideology of the Communist government.

And feminism is non existent in Poland,

There's actually rather a lot, fortunately.

The loading of unqualified PiS appointees is getting worse and worse

There are many many cases like this (several mentioned here in this forum); they are tolerated more in Polska B where the population is both more cynical about and more accepting of the actions of the various regimes they have had..

Work / Is 6500 PLN salary gross enough to live on for a small family in Wroclaw? [20]

Yes, it will be enough to SURVIVE on, nothing more.

Yes. After tax, that's below the median for Warsaw.

I don't think that the poster will be taking up a Managerial position with one of these firms.

Exactly. Nor would such a person need or want to ask that question here.

Study / What is an HNC (Scotland) equivalent to in Poland? [4]

They're not recognised as qualifications in Poland, so they won't be useful. They also won't accept them for university entry.

Some institutions do accept them (they're NARICS Band 7) however the nearest Polish equivalents (which are relatively rare) tend to be in engineering/technical subjects rather than computing.

If the admissions tutor is worth their salt, the person should be able to get on a course; HNC is at a higher level than Matura, however in PL they prefer the theoretical to the practical (not done well there) and it is easier to start in Y1 of a course.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

Either way, Poland is getting a worse and worse reputation over this issue, due to the actions of the current regime. A shame really, given that (in urban Poland anyway) there is plenty of awareness of the facts of man-made climate change.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

What a tragic waste.

The tragic waste is the huge damage that an overwhelming consensus of scientists predict will happen as the already damaging man-made climate change increases.

An even more tragic waste is the missed opportunities to slow it down.

UK, Ireland / Modern day slavery in the UK [36]

A couple of people wanted by the police here. It looks like slavery is on the rise again unfortunately. At leat the police ar taking it seriously. Mugshots and further details in the article.

Two men are wanted for numerous bail offences after originally being arrested for conspiracy to commit slavery offences in the Sandwell and Dudley areas in 2017. Dawid Kasperowicz and Adam Brzezinski are believed to be laying low .
