Law / Any good business ideas - what Poland needs? [114]

most of these stores/shops are actually quite little. i sometimes have reason to buy up to 6m lengths. problem is the width, which is never more than 1m 50cm. i usually buy near home so can't offer much about other shops. however, feniks in rynek might have something on one of its floors.

Travel / Driving through Poland and across Europe [17]

and maybe Berlin.

if you like the unusual. go here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teufelsberg

it would be the last place on most folks list. however, my wife and kids loved it and it is a tourist attraction of sorts.

Real Estate / A plot in Lesznowola near Warsaw - Bargain or not? [15]

Thank you... Very sensible advice.

the usual test is to dig a hole about 1.5 - 2m deep and wait (possibly a few days) to see if it fills up with water. other than rain water that is.

Travel / BIG LESSON (I visited and was threatened in Poland) [71]

but his family was really sweet,

my family are really sweet too, but if you are daft enough to give money away i will take it off you without a thought.

and if you'd like a bullshit false promise to go with it i will happily provide one.

wake up to the ways of the world you live in.

History / Did Polish farmer Krzysztof Azninski chop his own head off? [36]

Google it and you'll know what I meant by 'impossible'.

i don't have to google. i have a student who managed to slice into both his leg and arm with a chainsaw.

my above post was just a point of interest in connection with the topic.

Life / What is wrong with Poznan? [197]

This is an extremely obvious statement

and as such contradicts your original point.

because that means they often have 5-6 fresh minds considering the state of their health in addition to their regular health care provider.

have you ever been in intensive care and had students mull of what might or might not be wrong ? i have.

think of it from the point of view of the patient who may think he/she is at death's door. when you qualify and start doing your hospital rounds please limit the number of students to two or three and have them keep their mouths shut. the patient has nothing else to do than take in all that is front of him. just one ill informed clown and the patient's confidence can go right out the window.

Most patients should be happy to have an encounter with students

are you serious. the last thing i wanted on my hospital stays was a student.

i'm still here because of fully trained paramedics, nurses, doctors and consultants, not half-trained know-alls.

News / New road taxes in Poland? [13]

it might be that the person who caused the accident is the victim.

also, i would simply limit the size and type of cross/memorial to a particular standard.

Life / What is wrong with Poznan? [197]

Honestly, in most parts of the city, you can buy tickets easily. I suspect it's more related to the fact that he's been here for ages and still can't buy tickets from the shop.

almost no shops have tickets here (wroclaw). however, there are machines that operate in three or four languages and take cash or plastic.
to buy a ticket on a bus or tram one needs plastic.

there must be ticket machines in poznan, yes/no ?

Why do pedestrians need to press a button in order to get a signal allowing them to cross the road?

in most places pressing the button makes no difference. the sequence of lights has already been decided. don't know about poznan though. the signal button may be to aid blind folk as it has an audible warning. but then again, one would hear it anyway.

it might be an idea to get a cat when you come back.

or, why can't you take the cat with you ?

If anyone knows how to best answer this or any suggestions, please let me know. I greatly appreciate any responses.

Where is the land (nearest city) and how big is the parcel ? someone on the forum might be able to give an estimate on value. important to know, if you are going to spend money when taking legal action.

is it farmland or other ?

Genealogy / Katyn/Starobielsk family survivors in Oz Australia? [11]

I would love to talk/compare notes

there is an official report, in english, which lists the steps taken by the german authorities, after the discovery at katyn.

i know because i read it a week or two ago. but of course, i've lost the link.

you could also watch the film 'Katyn'. one doesn't need to speak Polish to know/see what took place.

not all of those found at katyn were reinterred there. this is regardless of what any report says to the contrary.

Food / Coffee in Poland: cheap and undrinkable / expensive and good [89]

Back to coffee - have you tried Blikle black coffee sorbet? They do a chocolate sorbet too.

the only time i go posh is when waiting for a train at berlin hbf. but i still walk past starbucks to get to dunkin donuts.

maybe not so posh after all.

btw, the queue is always longer at starbucks so i guess they win the popularity stakes.

Food / Coffee in Poland: cheap and undrinkable / expensive and good [89]

Kids (even young ones) can drink the real thing.

true, but in Poland it seems that coffee doesn't get introduced until one is a teenager. my teenage kids won't drink it though. they don't drink much tea either.
