Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

he's a tour guide

Yes! A free lance tour guide. They wait for clients in the Market Square, holding the flag of the country whose language they speak. The young guy in my photo must have been a good one - knowledgable but also funny -coz I saw tourists were quite generous. :)

I've ruled out all obvious Polish cars.

Exactly. But I can say it comes from the country which has had traditional ties with Poland in case of car industry/,manufacturing etc.

PS. I thought a male would try to answer this one but again, females must do the job. As usual. What would we do without those wonderful brilliant women? The world would be lost. Males, shame on you.

I see this forum is basically a message board with childish riddles just to occupy space.

Yes, exactly, How did you know?

Is there any useful information about Poland here?

No,hardly any. We have been waiting for a genius like you to come and enlighten us. Especially that

Ive been to Poland many times,

so you must be like a native. I can`t wait to hear all those stories of yours.

You can start, we are all ears.

hahaha

Meanwhile

What is wrong in the pic?

Work / Salary of a paramedic in Poland [22]

No, he won`t. I met him a year ago when I fell from the roof and damaged my almost everything. We talked a lot during the ambulance drive to hospital. He said he loved the job and would never change it. Pure vocation.

Food / Where can I buy chickpeas in Poland? [10]

Thanks for answering this question 9 years later.

Yes, I intended to answer it 9 years ago but I had a serious accident and was unable to. Good that I remembered to do it now. Better late than never.

Is that significant? Was he selling tickets for something?

Yes, Wawel Castle and generally the Old Town are a big hint.

No, not tickets, I said he sold sth immaterial/inpalpable, tickets are material to me.

I think it is a reconstruction of Christ's tomb. Is the boar standing vigil over the tomb?

That`s a great joke. :):) Thank you.

No, boars don`t guard tomb replicas in Poland. :):)

But you guessed correctly the date so I think you should get a point - it is just an Easter decoration - Poles love to eat a lot of traditional pork dishes and sausage during it.

What is this old timer?

USA, Canada / Beautiful women in Polonia, WI [18]

Let me tell you boys and girls about Polonia, WI. You will have to travel to Chicago

Do Polish beauties still ride in convertibles on Pulaski parades? I remember that custom existed 30 years ago.

Food / Where can I buy chickpeas in Poland? [10]

Does anybody know if I can find chickpeas in Poland? if yes, where could it be (market, shop, supermarket)?

Today, everywhere - dried, tinned, whatever.

I sometimes cook it but not as often as regular beans or peas. Chickpeas is still too hard even after long boiling, that gives me an impression it is not cooked enough.

Law / Penalty for driving on expired license in Poland? [30]

In case you are a repeat offender with an old record of previous misdeeds, the police officer might deem it worth taking the case to court. Then you face up to 5000 PLN fine.

Law / Penalty for driving on expired license in Poland? [30]

with just a warning or take a 100 zł bribe

hahaha Forget it. Bribes no longer work. The police are afraid of losing their job, not to mention conviction, because taking bribes and bribing is treated mercilessly. Don`t even try to do it cause you can get arrested. No joking.

In your case of invalid license, you get 500 PLN fine. Your car CAN be towed to a police parking, that depends on the officer`s decision..

Australia / Żoladkowa Gorzka, where can i get it in Sydney? [9]

Żoladkowa Gorzka,

The direct translation reads: Stomach Bitter vodka.

Don`t be misled by the name: it is quite sweet and pleasant to drink. There are many kinds.

Food / Barszcz czerwony recipe (Beetroot Soup) [48]

Once I used to have red borsch quite often, very thick with beans, sausage, pork, cereal, spices etc. Now I am less prone coz I drink home-made fermented beetroot juice every morning.

He's selling British-based products at some venue/park?

Yes, he`s just finished selling sth, but it wasn`t a material thing. And it wasn`t a park but the area near Wawel Castle.

As for the boar, it isn`t wooden, but that doesn`t matter.

Spring time tradition - sort of. Can you develop this topic a little more?

Life / Where to buy a good dog for a good price in Warsaw? [12]

Yes, but in another thread Chemikiem suggested it is a risky business coz such dogs are emotionally unstable after what they have experienced. Yes, I recalled that my dad had such a dog in 1990s and she used to take a pee in the corners of rooms and the wooden floorboards stunk like hell.

Food / Polish culinary dislikes [83]

Poles are not particularly fond of spicy or strong tasting food

I need spicy food to arouse my stomach to produce more gastric acids. Without them, I can go on without eating for a day and I am not hungry. :):)

E.g, I have eaten raw garlic to suppers since I was a teenager - always a few cloves. I even eat it with cakes.

Forget cheeses such as Stilton. Maybe it's because Polish cheese is very bland by comparison

I never tried Stilton but as I love blue cheeses which have strong smell and taste, especially old ones, I think Stilton would be quite mild to me. :)

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

If we didn`t, we would be megalomaniac bastards. Fortunately, we are only megalomaniac, without bastards, coz most Poles believe their language is the most difficult in the world.

Food / Do you still pressure-cooker to cook? [10]

Does anybody on PF still use or has used a pressure-cooker? I think they're called szybkowar in Polish.

I remember my parents having that utensil in communist times, I inherited it after they died but didn`t use it and finally it landed in scrap metal collection point.

Today I think it might be an asset, though:

Pressure cooker is valuable for potatoes in 5 minutes.

Wow, really? I must tell my wife. She cooks 5 kilos potatoes each week .

Work / Salary of a paramedic in Poland [22]

from 600zł to even 2000zł for qualified paramedic after schools and studies. Average it is 1200zl

Today it is twice more - 2250 take home. Still too low for most. That is why experienced paramedics are leaving their positions and new ones don`t want to take them.

History / WWII - Wolf's Lair. Valkyria operation had place in Poland's bunker complex. [11]

If Hitler had been assassinated, would it have changed much?

It wouldn`t. Stauffenberg and his mates intended to make peace with Western Allies and continue the war against the Soviet Union. But it was wishful thinking - allies were determined to keep their unity till Germany was defeated.

Why Hitler built it and why he spend there so many time during war?

Those bunkers, although blown up by Germans before their retreat from Eastern Prussia, still look like impressive structures. Regular bombing of the area would have been useless, so Hitler felt safe there. The only way to get him there was insider job, indeed.

Work / Salary 18000 pln per month in Gdansk [10]

If your family is eligible, you cannot collect for the oldest child. So 500 PLN max, if that.

It will be possible since October this year. PiS offered 500+ for the first child, too.

Love / I want my Polish gf to live with me but she says life here is too hard [31]

How many true rapes ruined women`s reputations, careers, ability to have a happy sex, ability to start a family, drove them into self-hating depression and ultimately suicide? Do you know the percentage of rapes that are not reported for fear and shame? 50%?

Sorry, 8% of male ruined careers is nothing compared to what most women suffer when a real rape takes place.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

I was really pleasantly surprised to the point that I quit asking if they speak English.

You were extremely lucky then, running only into Poles who speak English. Or did you deliberately choose those with those flashes of intelligence in their eyes?

the United States, I routinely ask "do you speak English". Something really bad is happening in "America".

Come on, give them some time for integration and aculturation.

Food / Adwokat vodka with egg yolk [16]

have hardly been able to look at it since,

You might have gotten a food poisoning if yolks were unfresh.

I have an even worse żubrówka story that I will spare you...

Was it that party when you mixed pickled cucumbers with cherry jam? Aż to nagle wyskoczył mi paw!

Love / My husband going to Poland after gotten his green card. Dreading his visit home to mom. [20]

Any guy who would voluntarily spend two months with his "mom" is mentally defective.

I tend to agree. Even the Bible says: For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

However:
The OP`s husband`s devotion to his mother could be called sick if not for the long period of his absence in the old country - he hasn`t seen his mum for 6 years. I think he can be excused.

That was pure genius. Before - a lover. After - a mother, version 2.0

The problem is that it is MEN who turn their wives into mother version 2. They expect their wives to do everything what their mothers did for them: cook, feed, clean, wash, iron. Anything else?

I knew about it from the beginning and never allowed my wife to do such things for me. She is my wife, not my mother. In result, we have had a very healthy relationship for over 25 years now. And we still do what spouses are supposed to do .

Life / Is Gdansk or Wroclaw better for social and nightlife during the autumn and winter in Poland? [6]

Septembers can be quite warm in Poland so the sea temperature is still acceptable. The same with October, although chances are much lower.

People socialise in ways and places like everywhere in the world. Just google what you are interested in and see if it is available. I won`t list all possibilities because there are too many of them. Do it yourself.
