Travel / Polish Road Tax ViaToll , a legal rip off before Euro 2012 ? [26]

For information about Highway toll Poland you can go here
dalnicni-znamky.com/en/highway-toll-poland.html

read local law.

Yes, although it would be much easier if the laws were more accessible. But it shouldn't come as a surpprise to a French driver as they have the same thing.

Nice new roads :)

No, nice new roads have to be paid for.

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Let's see how he spins this.

Simply by focusing on high end apartments in city centres prices from 4 years ago (peak).

By focusing on the slow down in the economy therefore unemployment figures, again for the last four years.

Ignoring the last 20 years,

By ignoring houses/apartments outside of the centres of cities.

Apartments outside of the cities are affordable and it's cheap enough to get transport into the cities.

I lived in a town for years 35 Km from Krakow, the cost of transport, return, is 7 Zloty.

Most Polish people live in the Polish countryside, jobs are mainly in the cities and so there is an urban influx over the past 20 years.

I personally think that the economic slowdown in Poland was great for Poland, Ireland did not have a slow down, prices skyrocketed and burst.
If there was no World recession, I fear Poland would have most certainly gone the same way but it didn't.

Anyway, this is a forum, it's not as if anyone is going to reconsider their position, so all of this is really just farting in the wind :)

Love / Do Irish / British guys like Polish girls? [138]

434 Polish married a Brit, Country population 60 million
327 Polish married a German, Country population 80 million
166 Polish married an Italian, Country population 60 million
117 Polish married a Frenchy, Country population 65 million
116 Polish married Ukrainian, Country population 45 million
115 Polish married Irish, Country population 4 million
110 Polish women married a Nigerian, population 158 million
76 Polish women married an Indian, Country population over a Billion
75 Polish women married a Turk, Country population 73 million

Statistically Ireland is kicking ass :)

In 2009 Poles married foreigner stats

This is the proof that British people are sensitive about criticism of their country (as well as every nation is)

I thought you were talking about Ireland?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Assuming it was a 25 year mortgage paying down to zero, I ran some quick calculations.

I assumed that it was, like about 80% of mortgages in Poland, in Swiss frank and that the fall of the zloty made it look that way today.

I could be wrong.

UK, Ireland / Lots of Polish in England buy houses and integrate into the UK system well [9]

On your former point,
you will find plenty of threads about Poles "taking our jobs", you see Polish Forums has all the basis covered.
If you are educated, get a job, buy a house and marry a local, you are "robbing" "our" Jobs, pushing up house prices and "stealing" "our" women.

If you don't do any of these you are a scrounge, unemployed scumbag, who lowers the prices of houses because you live 50 in a room and if you don't marry a local you don't integrate.

Damned if you do damned if you don't.
These arguments seldom cross over but it's fun to see the next "guest" repost the same argument depending on how much they've drank that day.

On your latter point,
I don't think people are bordering on anything but rather full fledged citizens :)

Travel / Tell me all about Krakow! [42]

I suspect its going to be rotting for 20 years

Not another Szkieletor

it's part of my life.

I understand your sentimental reasons but it's really not a pretty building.
I am not saying another shopping mall is the answer but a museum to go with the one across the road (okay not the prettiest either but hey:)

Using ladykangaroo's figures, putting the 1000 pln monthly saving on the rent into bank

But she hasn't put it in to the bank, she has probably paid someone else's mortgage and it's not certain that the bank will still exist in 30 years like Lehman Brothers.

I think it's great that people rent.

..and if

And if you had bought in Poland 15 years ago, you'd have none of those problems.

I will have spare cash in hand and buy neighbouring property for 300,000 from my savings?

There are plenty of properties for this price today.

Love / SINGLE SUCCESSFUL POLISH DOCTOR IN NY SEEKING ADVICE [28]

I am in the medical field, a successful physician in NY. It is very rare to find a polish person in this profession.

The hospitals are full of them here in Poland.

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS IT ABOUT POLISH PEOPLE THAT MAKES THEM THINK THAT UK WANTS THEM? [309]

I'll tell you my opinion on all of this,

Britain is in recession as a result of high risk, complex financial products, undisclosed conflicts of interest and the failure of regulators, the credit rating agencies, and the market itself to rein in the excesses of financial institutions. Now with bailouts using taxpayer's money, banks unwilling to lend further and apparently helpless to do anything about it.

But the average guy providing for his family physically sees some foreigners with no responsibilities undercutting the locals and it makes them angry and in return many of the foreigners that don't fall into this pigeon hole, that especially the media love to portray, also become angry. Like on this thread.

And while we are all fighting for the scraps, the bankers give themselves bonuses.

Sure there are always going to be the xenophobic basement dwellers and these guys will move heaven and earth trawling statistics to back up their hate but I don't believe isthatu2 is such a guy. That's why I asked for your opinion on what you suggest (even though you're fairly hot headed :)

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS IT ABOUT POLISH PEOPLE THAT MAKES THEM THINK THAT UK WANTS THEM? [309]

People are angry, worried and seeing their kids futures being crushed while all the while chavy little polacks and their orange faced slapper girlfriends seem able to walk into any job they want for simple reasons, happy to work for below minimum wage

What do you suggest?

UK, Ireland / Increasingly more Polish children born and educated in UK can't write/read! [51]

One of the huge shortcomings of today's multiculturalism, certainly not just in Britain, is that people from many walks of life, living in a new country, are just meant to "get on with it".

You are completely wrong

So tell me how I am compeletly wrong?

I don't have time now but if you could clearify how I am completely wrong about my comment.

UK, Ireland / Increasingly more Polish children born and educated in UK can't write/read! [51]

some believe that because they have a job and don't speak English, it's just fine for their child fail in school because he/she can be the same as mum and dad.

I realise that you were typing pretty much at the same time as I was and to reiterate what I have written in another way: I believe you mix up "Believe it's fine to be like mummy and daddy" to "not having much of a choice".

If you live in another country, work and your children are being taught in a foreign language, you probably couldn't help much with school work, could you? or is it just less trouble for you to think they "Believe" that their kids will be fine?

This is a bogus thread, with a serious issue but unfortunatly more willingness to blame it on the nationality of the parents than the obvious deisadvatage the kids have.

And sure, some of you will hang on to the "Disadvantaged kids" part of my sentence but any of you got any statistics where POLISH children at A level are not doing as well as the rest in Britain????

One of the huge shortcomings of today's multiculturalism, certainly not just in Britain, is that people from many walks of life, living in a new country, are just meant to "get on with it".

So take an average mixed language student attendng school, some parents will not be able to reienforce the lessons of their child's school day simply because they can't.

This is a very real and serious issue of modern day multiculturalism and yet not a huge problem to overcome but it has to be addressed in real terms first, not just by making the assumption that people from country "A" are... well to put a finer point on it than the OP has, Stupid.

What i dislike is this thread making "Poles" out to be more stupid than everyone else, obviously BS.

Environment also has a big role to play, in British terms the class system.

But to suggest that kids are growing up mute, well it's just ludacris .

UK, Ireland / Increasingly more Polish children born and educated in UK can't write/read! [51]

I think this is a load of codswollop, even focusing.

I am alarmed to see that more and more Polish children do not seem to make expected progress in school even though they were born and educated solely in the UK for at least 3 or 4 years.

I have a problem with this statement.
If a "Polish" child was educated solely in the U.K. is it not a failure on the behalf of teachers, like yourself, if they can't read or wright?

Or to at least understand that the parents might not speak Enlgish, to be able to read them books in English?

Many of them (Polish children) do not know how to speak in neither Polish nor English

Thankfully, for your argument, they won't be able to respond to this thread to defend themselves.

This is rubbish, what are they feckin mute? what a load of bull. How the heck are kids from country "A" who live in country "B" not able to speak either language?

News / Should countries be boycotted for offending Poles? [60]

who can not support themselves can be deported

Does this actually happen or is it just one of those laws that exist but never (or rarely) get put in to practice?

It sounds silly anyway, being an E.U. citezen, any Dutch person deported by the Polish authorities has the right to just return to Poland and visa versa.

News / Should countries be boycotted for offending Poles? [60]

"an open call for intolerance".

You could apply that to anything you dislike, it's a non quote in my opinion.
It gives the impression that we have to tolerate everything and should not talk about it as if we live in lala land.

I'm not a fan of Geert Wilders and I am not in to the whole extreme politics but, if it's not incitment for hatred, I don't see a problem.

I think all issues should be discussed.

Should countries be boycotted for offending Poles?

So to answer your question Pawian, they don't have to because they are all going to hell anyway :)

Real Estate / GET A MORTGAGE FROM A POLISH BANK OF A REAL ESTATE IN POLAND IF YOU ARE A GERMAN CITIZEN [7]

HOW MANY PERCENT OF THE MARKET VALUE we could get from a polish bank?

Nobody can really tell you, it depends on your earnings or some income like rent, having a property is not enough to get a loan as it does not mean you can pay the loan back.

IS THERE NO WAY TO ACCELERATE THE PROCEDURE AT THE BANK?

PUT A GUN TO THIER HEAD!

Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank.
Give a man a bank and he can rob the world.

Travel / Driving in Poland, are there any rules at all? [149]

bad roads, crazy drivers, auto thefts..

I don't think car theft is such a problem anymore, since they changed the law and it became "Organised crime" which carries much heavier penalties.

The roads are continueing to be improved with E.U. money but there is still a ways to go yet.

I find the main problem is bad drivers, drivers over taking me when I stop at a zebra crossing, that has happened a few times.... scary stuff

I believe a horrific advertisment campaign on T.V. would do the world of good.

You'll be grand and remember it's not a race, it's a mode of transport.

I always drive along there at 80km/h (70 limit)

1. Figure out the fastest possible speed on a particular stretch of road, then go at least 2 kph faster

The speed limits are too slow here. When I go to Ireland, I am supprised at the higher speed limit.
Also why don't they have pedestrain bridges or tunnels on bigger roads?
