Po polsku / Ilu "polanoglotów" na PF? [25]

Widocznie do śmietnika nie zaglądałem, zatem wyjaśnij raz jeszcze proszę. I podaj liczbę uczestników.
Rdzenny Polak to "królewski szczep piastowy" jak napisała Konopnicka. Na PF trzeba by lekko zmodyfikować jej tekst na: "Nie będzie Angol pluł nam w twarz..."

Po polsku / Ilu "polanoglotów" na PF? [25]

News / Poland's presidential system? [9]

I reckon in your view blindly rubber-stamping evetrything the Flatfeet regurgitate is a sign of being above politics. His PR people occasionally told Komorowski to send someting to the constituional court for verificaiton so as not to appear like a PO-ruled flunky.

Duda will have to put up with a PO-monopolised Sejm for a few months, but that will give the Platfusy time to back their bags ahead of their psot-election trip home. A new Sejm dominated by true Polish patriots not in the employ of scam artists and foreign lobbyists will get Poland moving again.

Food / What is the typical expat diet while living in Poland? [42]

The Old Polish cuisine of the upper szlachta was quite into spices whose use or overuse were once a sign of affluence. "Pieprzno i szafranno, mościa waćpanno" (peppery and saffrony, my dear maiden) was a well-known saying of that day. One of my favourite Old Polish dishes is roast pork loin with prunes and saffron rice on the side. Only the tiniest pinch of bright-red saffron gives the rice a golden tinge and subtle fragrance.

You can have your tumeric-tainted curry dishes. I'll eat most anything (I even once tried chocolate-covered ants -- actually a nice and crunchy sweet!), but tumeric (curry's main flavouring ingredient) is the one thing I cannot stomach. Now italian is a different story alltogether. It is probably the world's best cuisine, second only to our beloved Polish cookery!

People simply don't want a return to that, but you failed to make it clear which people. People wallowing in ill-gotten wealth and comfort, scam artists of every type, oldboy networks and snooty look-down-on-you-fellow-man elites do not want anyone in power who wants to clean up the exploitation and corruption and give the average Pole a fair shake. The foreign-owned banks and retail chains that are not paying their fair share of taxes and funneling most of their profits to their head offices abroad also do not want anyone who would restrict such goings-on. And eurocrats and others cashing in on the EU's interference in Poland's internal affairs also do not want any change for the better. Try to be more precise when you use the word "people".

The quote applies mainly to Christophobes, Jew-lovers, homophiles and assorted liberals and leftists. who would scream bloody murder if a rabbi or homosexual activist were attacked but are strangely silent about the estimated 100,000 - 160,000 Christians murdered each year solely because of their faith and refusal to espouse Islam or Hinduism. When was the last time you thought about or mentioned such victims? It is Christians who are "less equal" ( to use the Orwellian concept) than the privileged pet minorities vigorously defended by the leftstream media and PC dictatorship.

News / Presidential elections and debates 2015 Poland [472]

Every poltical party everywhere thast is vying for election is hoping that now it's our turn. That's all TKM is about. The "flatfeet" (in Polish the PO are called Platfusy) were thinking that before they lost both the presidential and Sejm elections in 2005. As a foregone conclusion they had been arrogantly been touting "a PM from Kraków" (Rokita) and "a president form Kashubia" (Tusk). They were planning a PO-PiS coalition (with PiS as the junior partner) and it was Komorowksi in mid-summer 2005 who first began virulently attacking PiS. Then the PO came up with the idioitc notion that coaliton talks must be televised live. That is never done anywhere. That is how the Platfusy launched the Polish-Polish war. It's good remembering what was what and who was who.

Most commie collaborators were and are in the SLD and the thankfully long defunct Unia Wolności. When the latter disappeared, the shipwrecks moved to PO which they felt was more "respectable" than the Leszek Miller gang.

Love / My Love Story: my 'good' family vs her 'bad' family in Poland [25]

Marriage is about family, in this case two different faimiles coming together and a new family emerging in the process. No-one marries just a single person, although conceivably a couple could run off and spend the rest of their life in a strange country or on a desert island. Normally the marrying couple inherit inlaws and family friends so it's best when there is some general consensus as to priorities, values, traditions and child-rearing. If not, there will be battles at every turn of the way. And here's a little piece of advice for the menfolk: remember, more likely than not your beautiful young bride will someday look and act much like her mother does at present. Is that someone you'd like to spend the rest of your days with?

But there's certainly no lack of them on PF. What would the typical Brit expat eat on a daily basis? Polish or British fare or some of both with some trendy exotica (sushi, curry, etc.) thrown in?

As Orwell put it, everyone is equal but some are more equal than others. To fanatically mindless Cathophobes, protection should be extended to everyone -- Muslims, atheists, anti-globalists, agnostics, homos, Hindus, transgenderists, Shintoists, Greens, Negroes, bisexuals, Orientals, anarchists, Jews of course and most everyone else, but not to the RCC.

Let's get back to the topic again

Nobody has commented on saving taxpayer money by reducing the number of pricey parliamentary bureaucrats. Is 460 some magic number?

News / Poland's presidential system? [9]

What is to be said for maintaining the current weak presidential system in Poland? Why does the president have the right of legislative initiaitive but rarely uses it? Wouldn't a presidential-parliamentary system be more effective? In other words slightly more prerogatvies for the head of state and slightly fewer for the Sejm? Sejmokracja was Poland's downfall after the Great War until Piłsuduski effected his coup to strengthen the executive power. Also ater 1989 there were 29 parties in parliament turning the assembly into a mud-slinging marathon. That is still largely the case today although the number of parties has greatly decreased-.

If it wasn't for parties wanting to pay off their backers with cushy parlaimentary seats, wouldn't it be more advisable to cut back the size of the Sejm to, let's say, 200-250 members? The extra taxpayer revenues could go to bankroll the ailing health service.

How about each of the 16 voivosdhisp having 3 senators?. That would be 48 senators instead of the current 100. (In the USA each state has 2 senators.)

I don't bet but I think it'll be a toss-up, very close one way or the other, in the margin of error category. In fact, I won't be surprised if the losing side demands a re-count. The performance of Kukiz voters -- whether or not they vote for Duda -- will be crucial. At least that's my take on it.

You've got a point. People used to say the Internet cannot be stopped or censored but China has proved them wrong. A friend revently visited China and said she could not access Google or Facebook on the local internet hookups..

News / Presidential elections and debates 2015 Poland [472]

Although he go off ot a slow start, Komorowski came well prepared, showed growing determination as the debate progressed and led to a smashing finale, He often impolitely interrupted Duda and caused consternation when he left his debater's circle and reached over to Duda to the dismay of the two moderators (who possibly thought things would come to blows), but he only handed Duda a sheet of paper to prove a point. Despite some curve balls pitched by Duda (sorry for the Americanism!), Komorowski took them in his stride and came up with hard-hitting ripostes. Attempting to debunk Komorowski's claim of rejecting radicalism, Duda recalled that Komorowski in his youth had wanted to murder a rank-and-file militiaman (communist policeman). Komorowski replied he had been engaged in the struggle against communism and had entertained different foolish ideas under the guidance of his then mentor Antoni Macierewicz, stressing that he was currently Duda's "party comrade". "I have gone to confession and divested myself of radicalism and I wish you the same," he added. Each debater pointed out his rival's changing views, inconsistencies and unkept promises, but all in all Komorowski came out on top. The incumbent who had been frequently thrown off guard during his crowd mingling on the streets had obviously boned up for the clash, even though he frequently had to glance at his notes. Duda had no notes to lean on but apparently had a bad day. Before the contest TV pointed out that in presidential debates substance (merit) counts for about 7% of the success. It is presentation and body language that play the major role in winning over voters.

USA, Canada / 10 things that show you are Polish [24]

You guys really are dense. Because it originated in America and was by and for fellow-Polish Americans who refer to themselves as Polish. Do you call yourself a pom or limey? Probably not. You can call yourself whatever you want, and so can PolAms. Your PolAm baiting is getting boring, so don't expect another reply. I know even a pom can't be that stupid and you're just being your despicably contrarian self.

USA, Canada / 10 things that show you are Polish [24]

Suddenly a top Pole-basher tries to make out that Poles in Poland are the centre of the universe to the poitn of violating the PF topic breakdown. Who cares what Poels in Poland say or think. This was a strictly Polonian thread that had nothing to do with Poland. It had to do with how PolAms perceive what the adjective "Polish" means.

USA, Canada / 10 things that show you are Polish [24]

Since being expelled from PF you now go by the letter of the PF law, so it's strange you've failed to notice this thread is in PF's Polonian USA/Canada category. If you can't stop badmouthing Polonians, then just bypass that section and spout your nonsense in the love, work, study, food, etc. sections. Let me repeat very clearly and slowly so maybe it'll sink in:

In America she's Italian, he's Irish, they are Polish 99% of the time means that the indicated individuals or of that particular extraction. No more and no less? Zrozumiano, compris, poniał, verstanden? - (understood?)

Had their been a conflict between Warsaw Pact stated and NATO

Had their been a conflict between Warsaw Pact and NATO, the Soviet-trained top brass would have been completely loyal to the Kremlin. Initially they would probably pull most of the army with them by feeding them deceptive propaganda -- imperialist forces are invading our beloved homeland! (the way Putin does), But depending on how long the conflict lasted and whether a civilian resistance movement emerged, some of the soldiers would join or desert. It also depends when this was happening. In the Internet era it would be far more difficult for the Soviet puppets to bamboozle society. Anyway, historical speculation is anyone's guess.

USA, Canada / 10 things that show you are Polish [24]

You guys are really bumpkins and yokels if you don't see this was compiled in good ol' America by and for Polish Americans based on their spot observations. In America "he's Polish" usually means his grandparents or great-grandparents came from Poland. If you go on your next holiday to Chicago or Greenpoint (Brooklyn), maybe you'll finally learn something and stop talking through your hat. Meet and mingle with the folk, 80% of whom (in Chicago) voted for Duda!

Po polsku / Tragedia jezykowa, czyli "stay on topic" LOL. [95]

w zakończonych na -ika, -yka wyrazach zapożyczonych z łaciny, np. muzyka, grafika, bazylika, samokrytyka;
w zakończonych na -ika, -yka, -icy, -ycy formach wyrazów pochodzenia łacińskiego oznaczających osoby wykonujące odpowiednią profesję, np. muzyka, muzycy (ale już prawnika, prawnicy);

lub w formach przypuszczających, np. widziałabym, zgubiłbym;
lub liczebnikach od 400 do 900, np. czte-ry-sta, o-siem-set;
zwykle również akcentujemy na trzeciej sylabie od końca wyrazy: rzeczpospolita, ogółem, w ogóle, szczegóły, okolica.

Tracksuits and Soviet-designed prefab blocks, zapiekanki (pseudo-pizza), bary mleczne (cheap commie-era eateries), Donald brand bubble gum, Pewex and budki z piwem (beer stands) are not what the SPIRIT OF POLAND. But trying to explain it to someone who regards the very concept as mythic or ephemeral is truly a waste of time.

History / Are there still communists in Poland? [58]

America has never been an enemy of Poland, unless you subscribe toi Crow's skewed anti-NATO rants. The only enemy was the PRL regime of two-bit Soviet-trained puppets like Jaruzelski and Kiszczak. Any actions aimed at weakening or destabilising the criminal regime was a patriotic pro-Polish gesture.But I can see you prefer to mouth the Michnik line that Jaruzelski was the good guy. What was so good about him? Was it because he had Popiełuszko killed and nearly 100 others during his martial-law swoop to crush solidarity. Was it because he took part in the 1968 anti-Semitic purge, invasion of Czechoslovakia and 1970 massacre of protesting shipyard workers?
