Po polsku / Światopogląd polskiej młodzieży? [14]

Language / Spend more time on Polish verbs or nouns? [8]

funny. verbs are most important in polish- they convey everything.

Nope. See a thread title:

If I'm agnostic, deist, atheist - can I say that to Polish people in Poland?

Delete everything except verbs, and what do you get?

History / Pole, Hungarian, two good friends [58]

Forget it, Crow knows better. :):):)

Playing a devil's avocate a bit. There were few unhappy moments in Polish-Hungarian relations. Luckily, there were only so few that nobody cares to remember them. But to be true to the History, I'll list them here:

It seems you forgot to include Rakoczy`s invasion of Poland in 17 century, whose direct effect was his complete military failure and demise.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_II_R%C3%A1k%C3%B3czi
He took Cracow and entered Warsaw with the Swedes, but the moment his allies withdrew the whole scheme collapsed. In July 1657, his forces were defeated by the Polish army in the battle at Czarny Ostrów, and it was only on the most humiliating terms that the Poles finally allowed him to return to Transylvania. Here (3 November 1657) the diet, at the command of the Porte, deposed him for undertaking an unauthorized war, but in January 1658 he was reinstated by the Medgyes Diet. Again he was deposed by the grand vizier, and again reinstated as if nothing had happened, but all in vain. The Turks again invaded Transylvania, and Rákóczy died at Nagyvarad of the wounds received at the battle of Gyalu (Gilău) (May 1660).

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

In the meantime Crow was dismayed at the sight of Slav brothers arguing with and invading each other.

Wow! Crow is as historic as PF itself?

Language / GCSE Polish experience. [51]

it's not O level, it's A level equivalent. and it's for students who were born into the language.

Revelation! GSCE is taken by British 16 year olds, right?

I have always thought it is a counterpart of Polish matura exam (that is what they taught me once). But matura exams are taken at the age of 19 in Poland. So, indeed, they equal British A -levels. However, ours are still divided into basic and advanced level.

Shyt! Clarification of that kind at my age? Preposterous! :):):)

Here are a few specimen examples from previous GCSE exams. I'm sure you think it's a walk in the park!

Thanks. Verily, a piece of cake.

But it seems more difficult than the Polish counterpart of GCSE, an exam called gimnazjalny, taken at 16, after finishing junior high school.

cke.edu.pl/images/stories/0001_Gimnazja_2011/jez/JA/angielski_a1.pdf

Have fun!

Thanks. I did. It reads like the Polish language, but it is not natural. I mean, people speak differently here. :):):)

A few examples:

chociaż jazda na rowerze jest pozytywna dla zdrowia.

Tatuś nigdy nie pozwala mi chodzić na imprezy. [daddy is used several times in seperate statements, it is exaggeration, normally it is dad]

This text lacks some logic - the connection between tax rise, smuggling and fines is distorted in a way.

But it seems more difficult than the Polish counterpart of GCSE, an exam called gimnazjalny, taken at 16, after finishing junior high school.

Major difference: Polish exam includes 4 listening tasks.

Language / GCSE Polish experience. [51]

it's not O level, it's A level equivalent.

By O level I meant the basic level of Polish matura exam, called podstawowy, taken at the age of 19, after finishing high school. I provided the link above.

The advanced level is here:
pobieranie.dlastudenta.pl/matura/2010/polski/polski_pr.pdf

t's for students who were born into the language.

Aaaargh! My mistake! It just dawned on me Chrząszcz wants to take a Polish language exam in the British educational system!

Funny misunderstanding! :):):):)

I am curious to see what it looks like.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

I think it is time to let this thread rest, after very hot exploitation. The elections of 2011 took place one month ago. They didn`t change much, because PO and PSL remained in power.

At the same time, we can say the elections have shattered the Polish political scene quite considerably. The surprising success of Palikot party, the failure of post -communists, breakup in PiS - Poland is changing on our eyes.

New attitudes, new times, new people, new circumstances require a new approach.

We need a new thread.

I would like to kindly invite you to check this out: https://polishforums.com/news/poland-political-circus-55053/

Let this cartoon be its advertisement:

To the parliament? Just turn right. You can`t miss it.

Poland politics

Thank you all for participation. We have done excellent task here. I did have a lot of fun, contributing my serious opinions and mild jokes, and discussing things with you.

PS. Dear mods, can you keep it non-archive for a while? There are some predictions here about Poland`s future, either bright or grim, which might be debated after some time passes.

News / Poland in EU - before or now, which was better? [5]

If I was malicious, I would say: don`t join the EU. In result, the funds for modernisation that Poland has and is going to receive from EU won`t be reduced by Croatian share. :):):):)

Work / Monthly income for family - Warsaw [71]

What kind of job is it? It is important because in some jobs you are required to show off your wealth, and people get into debts to meet the expectations, so 15 grand might not suffice.

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

So, what is going on in PiS after the elections? :):):)

Yesterday, the Saviour offered the Ziobro group a "compromise": they have to give up their posts in the party and allow the Saviour decide about their fate.

Ziobro rejected that generous offer, risking expulsion.

Comments: Ziobro is already out of PiS, it is only a matter of time.
Kaczyński is playing with Ziobro like a cat with a mouse.
Ziobro counts on Father Rydzyk but he is wrong.
Kaczyński is obsessed with power, he will never give up his leadership of PiS, even if it wins mere 3% in future elections.

Guys, do you consider it?:

1) Amusing.
2) Tragic.
3) Hopeless.
4) Amazing.

I choose answer 5), i.e. unbelievable. :):):):):):) What do I mean? The most hardened PiS activists, real PiS pitbulls, are trying to wrong their beloved boss.

The most hardened PiS activists, real PiS pitbulls, are trying to wrong their beloved boss.

I love this new coinage: WyPiSani. Written off!

ll of them were repeating the some mantra, which they have been doing in the last week or so:

Yes: We are true patriots of PiS, Kaczyński is out true leader.

It is sickening.

A new great joke:

Why is Jacek Kurski going to be called Janosik? Because they will hang him for Ziobro. :):):):):):):):)

Ziobro = more or less - rib.

The date of his execution was not recorded, but it was customary to carry it out as soon as the trial was over. The manner of his execution, not in public awareness until the early 19th century, became part of his modern legend. A hook was pierced through his left side and he was left dangling on the gallows to die. This brutal way of execution was reserved for leaders of robber bands.[5] However, sources diverge about the way of his execution, and it is also possible, that Jánošík was hanged.[1] A legend says that he refused the grace offered in exchange for enlisting soldiers of his abilities with the words: "If you have baked me so you should also eat me!" and jumped on the hook

Classifieds / English cuisine week in Lidl shops in Poland [203]

Haggis with mashed potato and neeps (which is a turnip like vegetable called swede) is truly excellent. I cannot understand why Poles do not grow swede.

The reason is historical.

When I asked my mother-in-law about this, she said that brukiew were fed to people in the camps during the war

Yes, but we eat real turnip instead, black or white: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turnip

News / Poland Parliament elections in October 2011 [944]

Typical, you waste time on unimportant scrambles while ignoring the fact that Poland will have to pay penalty to EU, namely 5 billions euro folly of Tusk's gov.

Is this like your imaginary 15% of spoiled votes?

Delph, exactly. It is PiS- like way of discussing things, with 3/4 distorted message.

Explanation
1. Not euros, but zlotys. Quite a difference, Iron.
2. Nobody really knows if this money has already been spent or if it is still on accounts.
3. Poland is too poor to have used that money on railways today, and tried to shift it onto roads. The EU voiced its objections but nothing has been decided yet.

Iron, you have been raising hell here about Poland`s rising debt. Do you really want the government to take out more loans in order to start and complete the railway projects?

Why are you such a bad publicist for PiS? :):):):):) I think it is one of reasons why PiS lost the last 6th elections. They have too crappy propagandists who suppose that intelligent people will believe their BS.

One source says one thing and another says another. Am I wrong?

Practically, there is only one source available: Liberadzki, Europarliament member, announced the news on 27 September. All links go back to 29 September, while the original one comes from 27th.

Ah, I know...it's called trade unions.

Trade unions are needed but when the fate of the whole business is at stake, they mustn`t be so relentless. A few sites have already been closed in result if trade unions` harmful actions. FSO, for example.
