Food / Food hygiene in Poland [60]

Don't get me wrong I love my new home here in Poland but I feel that in some places food hygiene could be a bit/lot better.

It is not about hygiene.

Hygiene problem is when assistants hand out food with their bare hands which earlier handled money. I must say it it was standard in communist times but today happens more and more rarely.

Love / Falling for a Polish guy and confused.. [23]

Either way, don't think of him as a guy from Poland, just think of him as a guy.

Yes, exactly. It always amuses me when girls try to find out how to operate a Polish guy, while he is just a guy and nothing else. Does it mean that Poles are seen as exotic unknown race which requires digging into on forums?

What ? get a grip pawian

What? Go on a trip, ironside.

Love / Falling for a Polish guy and confused.. [23]

I don't even know why he keeps wanting to see me and email/text me everyday (for two weeks now since he got my email) when he knows he is leaving.

Don`t want to be rude but he might consider it as written English practice.

get over yourself - you don't really expect an answer do you ?
Its need to be sorted out between you two.

How can you be so cruel? Don`t you have any compassion?

USA, Canada / Do Pol/Ams celebrate Black Friday and other American festivals? [18]

and if you are lucky you don't get pepper sprayed.

I tried to guess what you meant but now I know for sure:

On Black Friday 2011, a woman was reported[27] to have used pepper spray on fellow shoppers, causing minor injuries to at least 10 people who had been waiting hours for Black Friday savings. It was later reported that the incident caused 20 injuries. The incident started as people waited in line for the new Xbox 360. A witness said a woman with two children in tow became upset with the way people were pushing in line.

So it isn`t such a warm family holiday as I thought. :(:(::(:(:(

Ironside, how did you spend the day?

USA, Canada / Do Pol/Ams celebrate Black Friday and other American festivals? [18]

You can be right. When in NYC in early 1990s, I didn`t notice any Black Fridays.

Black Friday is not actually a holiday, but some non-retail employers give their employees the day off, increasing the number of potential shoppers. It has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005,[1] although news reports, which at that time were inaccurate,[2] have described it as the busiest shopping day of the year for a much longer period of time.[3]
For many years, it was common for retailers to open at 6:00, but in the late 2000s, many had crept to 5:00 or even 4:00.

Americans are stoopid...............they riot and loot but still pay for the goods..........

But Brits also have their Harrods sales days.

Madness of the sales: Shoppers queue for hours in the middle of the night and the freezing cold... all in the hunt for bargains

Po polsku / Czy polskie PF jest reprezentatywne? [13]

Dlatego dobranoc. Muszę trochę popracować w moim własnym forum bo mam zaległości.

Po polsku / Czy polskie PF jest reprezentatywne? [13]

Ooops, przepraszam serdecznie. Nie doczytałem tego że rozmowy są polskie.

Cholera, to tempo życia robi się coraz szybsze. Czytam co drugie słowo żeby to wszystko ogarnąć.

Wybacz.

PS. Chyba to przeczytałem ale zrozumiałem że rozmowy są polskie czyli tak jakby o Polsce itp. więc możliwe że po angielsku. :):):):)

News / Priests are paid by the Gov't in Poland. [86]

I remember someone I knew who was married to a non-Catholic that eventually moved to Canada because of this very issue.

If he/she said so, then he/she lied. The reason for emigration wasn`t the religious persecution in Poland - it was purely a desire to have a better life in Canada.

Come on.

Po polsku / Czy polskie PF jest reprezentatywne? [13]

I z jakich warstw społecznych pochodzą?

Pytanie to powstaje z powodu braku zainteresowania nowym rządem Tuska, jego exposé i innymi sprawami publicznymi.

Bez przesady, jakieś zainteresowanie jest.

Summa summarum - ten wątek jest denny.

Language / 'lubię, lubisz' - Infinitive [86]

Correct are the first sentences in each pair:

Sorry, I don`t know. I am not so good at Polish grammar.

PS. The sentence about travelling in the park is a bit strange.

News / Priests are paid by the Gov't in Poland. [86]

Is the priest teaching comparative religion including the ideas of atheism and agnosticism?

Atheism and agnosticism aren`t religion.

Guys, I am pouring myself another highball of home made wine mixed with sardine oil.

And I am so fekking sober.

It is unbelievable. Those sardines are so strong.

Apart from participating here, I am watching The Pearl of the Black Soil. Lovely film.

News / Priests are paid by the Gov't in Poland. [86]

Yes, it does. Whenever I go an a drinking spree, I eat a few tins of sardines before the binge. That allows me to remain sober.

Priests should be paid by the govt as the govt controls public funds and the majority of the Polish public see the merit in having priests.

Sort of. :):):):):):)

Tell them a little bit

Don`t be unwise, Boletus. :):):):) I won`t tell anybody anything about it because it doesn`t lie in the sphere of my interest. :):):) I am not a fekking rationalist. :):):)

you are jut spinning fairy tales about self-supporting Catholic Church and about lack of any form of donations from the State.

What spinning fekking tall tales do you mean? I only posted thrice in this thread. :):):)

My first post was an answer to OP`s question about salaries:

but to be paying their salary? What's up with that?

Priests who work in schools as Catholic religion teachers are paid by the state.

My second post involved a sort of explanation of certain misunderstanding:

I am sorry, your post was a bit misleading that is why I mentioned priest teachers` salaries only.
But yes, the retired priests get their pensions from the state. Tusk declared the termination of this deal.

The third post was an expression of gratitude to strzyga.

Exactly. Thanks for taking the effort.

What the fekk do you mean with those fairy tales? Are you drunk? :):):):):)

- financing of repairs and conservation of some church properties

A question: who really profits from the renovation and maintanance of historical churches? The clergy? The peoples? The state? God?

The priests who teach religion at schools and those who work as chaplains with the army, at hospitals etc. get regular salaries from the state.

Exactly. Thanks for taking the effort.

He suggested that the property the Church was robbed of by communists has been given back and the clergy have more means at their disposal to secure a retirement.

News / Priests are paid by the Gov't in Poland. [86]

My wife was explaining the news today to me (Gov't wants to start taxing priests) and I was amazed to find out that they actually are paid by gov't. I don't have a problem with tax deductions for religious orders, but to be paying their salary?

I am sorry, your post was a bit misleading that is why I mentioned priest teachers` salaries only.

But yes, the retired priests get their pensions from the state. Tusk declared the termination of this deal.

PS. Priests retire at 75 in Poland.

Tak. 2 lata temu zamieszkaliśmy na krótko koło plażowej tancbudy z karaoke. Największy aplauz (czytaj: wycie) i najczęstsze bisy wywoływały Sokoły.
