News / LESS BRUSSELS, GERMANY, MORE USA IN POLAND! [10]

Rzeczpospolita writes: Less power for Brussels, greater distance to Berlin and closer cooperation with the USA -- such are the cornerstones of a profound realignment of Polish foreign policy as a results of Andrzej Duda's election.

This week David Cameron begins a tour of European capitals to renegotiate the terms of Britain's EU membership. (...) He wants to carry out a EU membership referendum no later than 2017. That is a superb opportuntiy to implement Duda's vision of integration.

I know of no such case, but the PO-linked scam artists, pocket-liners and flunkies of exploitative foreign corporations are ten a penny.

BTW now with Poland finally cleaning up their act, you've got deviant-loving "Catholic"(?!) Ireland to move to. You feel more comfortable in decadent surroundings, don't you?

They know that it's best not to live in a country ruled by PiS.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Scam artists, corrupt officials, foreign exploiters and other who have only their own selfish interests (not that of the Polish nation) in mind are uneasy about the prospect of being exposed, swept away or even landing behind bars.

P.S. Too bad you didn't donate to the Pampers for Supermarket Cashiers Relief Fund.

Just like Polish convicts felt Komorowski would be better for the crime community, so too Western market circles are now trembling in their boots. The foreign banks that have brainwashed Poles into living above their means and lured them into debt traps now fear they may have to pay their fair share of taxes or lend a helping hand to the Swiss frank credit-takers. Or the foreign corporations that own the big supermarket chains which pay cashiers starvation wages and force them to wear Pampers because they're not allowed to leave their posts are also worried they may have to provide decent working conditions. Not to mention the PO-linked local officials lining their pockets with EU grants and subsidies.

CONVICTS FOR KOMOROWSKI: According to figures released by Poland's Central Prison Board, penal institutions were one of Komorowski's major power bases. The incumbent garnered 82.7% of the vote amongst the inmates of prisons and pre-trial lockups, whilst only 14.8 voted for Duda. The incarcerated apparently know whose rule would create a climate most conducive to law-breakers.

(W zamkniętych obwodach wyborczych utworzonych w aresztach śledczych i zakładach karnych Bronisław Komorowski uzyskał 82,7 proc. głosów, a Andrzej Duda - 14,8 proc. - wynika z danych Centralnego Zarządu Służby Więziennej.?)

Food / What is the typical expat diet while living in Poland? [42]

My breakfasts are the Old Polish żur about 2 times a week (with hard-boiled egg and cubed twaróg in); other days oat or millet porridge; white cheese with sour cream, rye bread, Benecol and tea; cheese (esp. brie & cranberries) or cold meat canapés with tea; occasionally 2 fried eggs with skwarki (fried fatback nuggets). When there are leftover noodles or rice from dinner I often have a hot milk soup for breakfast. I never eat toast or the dry crunchy-munchy or frosted-sugar-gloopie type cereals.

A PiS parliamentary victory would probably lead to some dramatic changes. If its arch-rival PO wins, a rerun of the Polish-Polish "war" that has plagued the country over the past decade is likely. If PiS wins, a pivotal role may be played by anti-PO rock musician Paweł Kukiz who came third, wining over 20% support mostly among younger anti-system voters. If the new political party he sets up does anywhere as well in the parliamentary election, a potential PiS-Kukiz coalition could bring about major people-friendly and nation-friendly changes on the Polish scene.

USA, Canada / Polonia shows the way - 4/5 of PolAms for Duda - the new President of Poland [25]

Once again the US Polonia has shown the way to their Old Country compatriots, often so mired down by their petty daily matters that they cannot see the big picture. With the benefit of distance, PolAms are able to stand back and have a better overview of things. The bottom line is that four-fifths (some 80%) of Polish voters in the US cast their ballots for Andrzej Duda -- four times as many as voted for Komorowski.

Conservative newcomer Duda wins Polish presidential cliffhanger
Warsaw (AFP) - Conservative opposition challenger Andrzej Duda on Sunday won Poland's presidential run-off, exit polls showed, trumping incumbent centrist Bronisław Komorowski on promises of generous social spending.

An MEP and lawyer with a populist streak, Duda scored 53 percent support ahead of Komorowski, who mustered 47 percent, exit polls showed, giving a key indicator of the national mood ahead of an autumn parliamentary election.

Analysts said voters hungry for change in the EU and NATO member state could oust the governing centrist Civic Platform (PO) in this year's parliamentary polls and return Jaroslaw Kaczynski and his conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party to power after eight years.

Duda's win has enraptured the heart of every patriotic Pole. This paves the way for a PiS victory in the parliamentary elections. At the very worst, if PO were to somehow win, there will be the assurance that libtertinism-promoting legislation or excessively restrictive EU interference will be vetoed. But hopes run high for a full PiS victory and the resumption of the interrupted 4th Republic project.

Poland's mission -- as declared by its authorities of various political persuasion and most grass-roots Poles -- is to strengthen Poland's NATO alliance and within it to cultivate a special relationship with the USA. Also to promote other former East Bloc countries's ties with the EU (Eastern Partnership, etc.) and eventually also NATO. This concerns mainly Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Armenia.

Know of any poltiican that doesn't change his mind? Komorowski said only frustrated individuals wanted a referendum. After Duda defeated him in the first round, he changed his song and suddenly was all for it and had the Senate clear the field. We all know there are those amongst us that tremble at the prospect of a clean-up campaign, Piłsduski called it Sanacja, to sweep away the crooks, shysters and party hacks. ("Partyjnicy" - he called them.)

The libertine slime will unfortunately eventually seap into Catholic Poland. But that'll take some time and before that happens ISIS or similar fanatics will surely attack one of the hotbeds of deviation and debauchery before they target Poland. The increasingly militant LGBTQ agenda is only bringing closer the day of confrontation and total collapse.

Since you fancy yourself as a self-styled Vatican expert, be sure to keep watching for Pope Francis' assessment of the recent Irish disaster.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

In the countries where homosexual marriage is legal, percentagewise very few take advantage of the opportunity. Some say it is just to capture yet another beachhead as part of their step-by-step strategy to destroy the family, as the keystone of any nation, undermine religion and effectively anarchise society and turn things on their head.

The homo-marriage referendum has clearly toppled the ludicrous claim that Ireland is more Catholic than Poland on the basis of some people's obsessive Sunday head-count criteria. That would never go over in Catholic Poland.

That's one of the keys to good nutrition: eat seasonal and local! Stuff shipped in from half a world away has to be picked unripe and artificially ripened in storage. Some may contain exotic bacteria, fungi and other contaminants which thanks to globalism now travel world-wide.

Merged: When will Poland approve homosexual marriage?

Ireland have voted in a referendum in favour of same-sex marriage. When will Poland join the 21st century and follow suit. In fact, since it has been so backward so far, maybe Poland should do something progressive for a change and become the first country to legalise bisexual married threesomes.

For all their merits and failings, it is widely believed that Brits at least know their English. One meaning of to assist means to be present, to attend, As in French asister or Polish asystowsać. In English another meaning is to help or aid. Assisting at Holy Mass does not mean sweeping the aisles or lighting the candles -- that's the job of the sexton and altarboy respectively. I suspect the poster knew all that but his contrarian self cannot help but latch onto whatever causes controversy.

Mod's comment: This thread should provide information about the typical expat diet in Poland

I'm waiting for the expats (if any are left on PF) to speak up. If I am one I have already said what my family diet is like in Warsaw. I'd love to hear what others usually have for breakfast, second breakfast, dinner and supper. I hear some are eating lunch these days, although that's not a Polish thing.

So do you agree with Harry's definitions?

I was referring to non-Polish expats, those of alien blood. When (what year) did you cease being an expat?

In the US far more people attend mass on Saturday than on Sunday. In fact the term Sunday Mass is used only by the elderly -- the more contmporary term is Lord's Day Liturgy.

Tusk touted the "inexpensive state" (tanie państwo) but bureaucracy mushroomed under PO leadership more than ever before, even more so than when the ex-commies (SLD) were in power. Empty promises have long been a Platformer speciality.

Wrong again, but you still think you're right. That's what a Know-All is all about. Forget the online stuff and websites and talk to a normal priest. Attending mass on Saturday afternoon or eveningfulfils a Catholic's obligtion to keep holy the Sabbath. Attneding a nuptial (wedding) mass on a Saturday also does.

Here is the official Chruch positon:
Q. If I go to Holy Mass on Saturday night, does that attendance fulfill my Sunday Obligation to attend Holy Mass as required by the First Precept of the Church?

A. Yes, it does. Church Canon Law # 1248 §1 states: "The obligation of assisting at Mass is satisfied wherever Mass is celebrated in a Catholic Rite either on a holyday itself or on the evening of the previous day."

For the Holy Mass to considered as the fulfillment of one's Sunday or holiday obligation, it must be a celebration of the liturgy (prayers, readings, Gospel) of the Sunday or holiday of the following day.

Saturday worship has the full approval of the Vatican. Remember the commndment bids: Keep holy the Sabbath which amongst Jews was Saturday and after Vsatican II the Saturday option was added for Cahtlolics.

Please define clearly so a dunce like me can understand.
A MIGRANT: is someone who has lived in another country for .....years. (Add any other requirement to qualify as a migrnat).

AN IMMIGRANT: is someone who has lived in another country for .....years. (Add any other requirement to qualify as an migrant).

AN ÉMIGRÉ: is someone who has lived in another country for .....years. (Add any other requirement to qualify as an émigré).

NOTE: MY speciality has always been Polish cuisine which does not have your British steak & chop obsession; as you know meat is de-chopped to form a boneless cutlet and the hell is beaten out of it before being breaded and fried.

Are you saying that those things have disappeared form the Birtish menu? What about black pudding, steak & kidney pie, Yorkshire pudding, kippers and scones? It's be a shame because personally I quite like roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, steak & kidney pie and scones.

Contrary to your insinuation, my main interest as someone whose writings include foodways, was to find out to what extent expats retain theri native eating habits and what they adopt form the host country. According to PF's authority on the subject (and every other subject for that matter?!) there are hardly any expats left in Poland. Almost inspires one to rephrase Joan Baez's well-known ballad: "Where have all the expats gone, long time passing?"
