Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

Still, Poles in Poland are a known quantity. When they come back from Germany or the UK, they can be cocky. I met a Pole who lives in Dusseldorf now. He spoke more German to me than Polish which I wouldn't have minded had I not told him that my Polish is much better. I generally understood his German but that's not the point. There is sth of a superiority complex of those Poles that come back from Germany :(

I was out on their old bicycles today and have a classic Polish flag on my arms ;( It was really hot there. I like the fact that they make their own pickles often, value miętna wódka and prepare great food for the table. The dogs got a good runout too :) You can feel really free :)

Love / Polish girls hard in relationships [156]

They look to the West, not looked. I think you misunderstood the phrase, 'the grass is always greener on the other side' , Zeti. What do you think I intended to say by stating it? Besides, you represent one voice only....

Now, back to the thread. Ever been with a Polish girl, Zeti? ;) Could you imagine it? ;) ;)

Right, it comes through exposure. They were shielded from the outside world, receiving limited radio broadcasts and that was their lot. That has changed and they got their chance to use their 'spryt'. Polak potrafi :)

My wife loves American serials. 90210 chiefly but also Gossip Girl and many others. Then come the questions about luxury. She's twisted my arm and we're off to a 5-star hotel in Fuerteventura right at the start of 2011. However, I dread the day that she mentions Ferraris as I'll be off to the miniature shop for the smallest replica out there. That'll be 80PLN, please :)

Plus, they were denied so long under communism. Imagine the US or Scotland had to go through that for 43 long years. We'd be rugged and gritty too.

UK, Ireland / Poles - go home make your country better [40]

A lax attitude is indeed not their style abroad, I've heard. Still, other than money, I wonder what keeps them in the UK away from their families.

I guess what I'm saying is that more and more are jumping on the bandwagon of accruing wealth but that's their perogative. Besides, overheads are really rising here and it's hard for many Poles to build up a nest egg for a rainy day (the black hour). I prefer not to guess their motivations. They have their lives and I have mine. They aren't harming anyone and life is a contract.

It's a little deeper than that but I agree. Although I don't want to delve into the arguments put forward that GB owes Poland after WWII (it was the government and not the people that decided Tehran/Yalta, they shouldn't suffer), I like the fact that GB is getting a wake-up call as globalists are causing huge problems for them. Besides, Poles are really helping the economy through their work. They could take those skills home and do sth useful. Poles are determined people.

Ryan Stiles doing it in style :)

Well, I'm a grateful kind of guy so I can see all the good things that she does for me. I've seen plenty mistakes over petty stuff in other relationships so we're keen not to fall into those shallow traps.

Priorities and compromise, that's what it's all about.

USA, Canada / Polish Fighter Tomasz Adamek vs Michael Grant WAR [20]

Noises are being made that it is in the works for Dec. That would give Adamek enough time to prepare. I favour Haye in that one but Adamek would take a lot from that fight. Were he to take it the whole distance, he might win as he scores many technical points in his bouts.

Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

Lonman, I've never heard of Semus but he doesn't appear to have written here. Anyway, think 'suppressed instincts'. Poles have often felt hard done by and would have been like a bull in a Chinashop come Pewex and the creation of free markets. Also, don't underestimate the role of advertising. I've just turned my head to watch a commercial. Beyonce Heat :( It didn't state the price but it's no doubt around 300PLN per 50mls. Poles will also think along the lines of, well, if Westerners have this and this and this, then so can I as I am every bit as good as them in what I do.

You've been here 6 times and that's great. I take nothing away from you. However, I've been here for 6 years which kinda places me better.

Easy! They come at you, you move away and throw a punch to keep them at bay. They get tired with the constant pursuit. Just watch the Arreola fight. I watched all 12 rounds today and you'll see what I mean.

UK, Ireland / Poles - go home make your country better [40]

I wouldn't use 'go home' as an imperative and they have the right to choose. However, my wife, who is Polish btw, thinks that they should go to the UK for a stint, pick up some invaluable exp and transfer their learning back to Polish life. She dislikes those that stay away for too long because she maintains that such people just need to get more creative here. In a roundabout way, she agrees with the OP.

I see the logic and there are so many here that have voiced the opinion, Polska dla Polaków (Poland for Poles). They can't have it both ways. Either you strive to bring that about or you become grateful for new opportunities which invariably come with a healthy dose of luck.

USA, Canada / Polish Fighter Tomasz Adamek vs Michael Grant WAR [20]

The problem is, he just doesn't look for it. There is simply NO comparison to Tyson in this respect. Tyson trained for getting in and about his opponent. Tyson was never the jabber that Lewis was, for example, but boy could he get through a guard like a hot knife through butter. Adamek could do this against poorer opponents but I wouldn't try it against sb from the top shelf (well, almost) like Grant. Better keeping Grant at a distance and wearing him down. If he drops his guard then all well and good but I wouldn't count on it. He may be ring rusty but his boxer instincts will still be there.

I agree that Adamek lacks KO punching power. However, he has been working on this and just needs to swing his body weight into it with momentum. He can do it!

I think the last statement is the most to the point! Despite being in the EU for over 6 years now, they are slow on the uptake when it comes to furnishing you with English documentation. Just as Poles with limited English can request documents in Polish in the UK, those with limited Polish (almost all) can request documents in English that come here. They don't seem to have cottoned onto that, though. It's Polish or nothing and that's rammed down your throat by vile old babcias.

The bookies have it as follows. If they fought 16 times, they would give 15 of the 16 as wins for Adamek. Heavily stacked against Grant but he has a good chance. I just feel Adamek is too good and will take him out in round 6.

That's why God invented the leash, SwP ;) ;)

Of course. It's just their changeability that makes you never know where you stand at any given moment.

Exactly! They will do their job by teaching what they have to teach but then put you in the uncapable hands of so-called Career Advisory services. Sorry, but I don't need some dumb chumps telling me who I am and what I can do in this world. You need to have your own vision and make things happen off your own bat. That's what I've learned.

Ah, but it's back to the contacts thing and opportunity. I invested 5 years in learning Law, did it to a high level but work is work and study is study. WB likely hit a brick wall and realised that securing positions is just not easy in the rat race.

History / WW2 hypothesis - if France And England weren't so timid, wimpy and scared of Hitler... [34]

Jasinski, you clearly know nothing of macro trends in the world. Do you really think WWII happened by chance after the Wall Street Crash? Do you understand ANYTHING about how wars come about and for what reasons?

Remind me, troll, when did the war start and when did the British RAF attack the German navy? 3 days difference springs to mind. We declared war, together with the French, 2 days after the Germans invaded Poland.

They should come with a health warning ;0 ;) Or, failing that, a risk assessment sticker. When you see a 10, steer well clear ;)

For some, the right qualifications can just be to get a foot in the door in modern organisations. No guarantees!

I hear what you are saying, though. If your character is suited to being one of those jobs you mentioned, why not do it? Where would we be without those people (scaffies/rubbish collectors too)? I also dislike those who turn their noses up. Some are wired to be doctors and some are wired to be manual labourers. Each gives sth to society. Besides, when was the last time you heard a manual labourer take a bribe? ;)
