Real Estate / Why are toilets and sinks in Poland always separated by a door? [33]

(in Poland it happens only in flats with so small bathrooms that there is no space for a washing machine there).

Yes, absolutely true. Vincent on here (one of the mods) will be able to explain exactly why, but it's my understanding that it's not actually legal there to put electrical outlets in the bathroom unless it's a significant distance from a water source.

For me, it still makes no sense for the washing machine to be in the bathroom.

Only in Poland could someone say this and not have their political career instantly ended. Shame on him. No doubt he will be blaming people for lacking a sense of humour.

Shocking, isn't it?

It just shows PiS for what they truly are - a bunch of boorish, uncultured fools that would be right at home in the Komitet Centralny.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

PiS leader Kaczyński speaking in Biała Podlaska said, according to Rzepa, that a significant victory for PiS would enable a one-party government

So he's already dreaming about holding absolute power in his hands.

to peacefully change Poland for the better in cooperation with the president and opposition if it agrees to cooperate.

Kaczyńśki, cooperate? He's refused to cooperate with anyone for the best part of 20 years - why would he change now?

A multi-party Sejm will lead to constant fighting, name-calling and backbiting.

In other words, he wants absolute power for himself, and he realises that having to form a 4 party coalition with Ziobro, Kukiz and Gowin is a recipe for total disaster.

The moral of the story: everybody vote for PiS!

And vote for the type of people that get involved in the kind of things that we've seen today.

Anything connected with professional PiS-basher Toamsz Lis cannot be regarded as a reliable source.

So in other words, he should be silenced by PiS.

See Polonius, every day, you prove that PiS are more interested in state-sponsored censorship and approved versions of events than they are about actually governing.

That's revolting. Any party with even a shred of decency would immediately suspend the person who said that and then after making sure that he did say that throw him out permanently.

We all know that permanent expulsion from PiS doesn't happen - you just get a job working for companies that work for PiS. That smirking fool Hoffman knows all about it.

This is getting better and better today - not only two pieces of news about PiS behaving badly, but a third!

PiS is already preparing an "execution list" for TVP. Controlling the network will be one of the first moves of Kaczyński after the election.

natemat.pl/158383,pis-juz-przygotowuje-listy-egzekucyjne-dla-tvp-skok-na-media-bedzie-jednym-z-pierwszych-ruchow-prezesa-po-wyborach

In other words, PiS intend to use TVP as their personal mouthpiece if they win power. It's exactly what happened between 2005-2007, and we can expect TVP to resemble something that Putin would be proud of.

And in local news to me, we've seen something that defies explanation and shows the real side of PiS - the nasty, uncultured side that harbours deep hatred towards anyone not like them.

Thursday's meeting of the City Council Committee on Culture and Science attracted considerable controversy. Not only because of the ideas of altering the names of ul. Roosevelta and rondo Kaponiera, but also "a joke" made by the PiS councilor, Janusz Kapuściński. He proposed that the street leading to a waste incineration plant should be called "Oświęcimska". Other councilors are outraged.

epoznan.pl/news-news-61838-Ponury_zart_radnego_PIS_Ulica_prowadzaca_do_spalarni_niech_nazywa_sie_Oswiecimska

Oświęcimska would translate into German as "Auchwitzer Strasse", or in English - Auschwitz Street.

Sick, disgusting and shows that kind of people that belong to PiS.

For balance, focus on the POO's scams and abuses.

I don't recall any PO supporters taking part in the creation of "black lists" against colleagues.

It's called "If you have no valid arguments, raise some kind of weird trivia to distract people."

Prophetic words.

(Google if itnerested.)

What has that got to do with the fact that this is 2015 and PiS have been clearly shown to be indulging in the kind of practices that the UB/SB would be proud of?

It's certainly no surprise. Hopefully this tips a few more people into the national alliance against PIS and encourages them to actually go and vote so that darkness doesn't fall over Poland from 26 October onwards.

I find it very interesting how Polonius completely ignores the scary part of PiS supporters openly denouncing their colleagues to "the authorities" and instead concentrates on the man himself.

Does anyone remember Polonius denouncing snitches in the past?

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Another day, another scandal. This time with the actor, Jerzy Zelnik.

natemat.pl/158253,kogo-na-czarna-liste-pis-lukaszewicza-i-barcisia-tak-jerzy-zelnik-doniosl-na-kolegow-popierajacych-po

Basically, Kuba Wojewodzki called up Jerzy Zelnik pretending to be from Duda's office, asking for names of people that were against Duda and PiS. Zelnik complied with the request, naming colleagues (!) and making it clear that he was willing to cooperate in the creation of a "black list" of fellow members of his profession.

Absolutely disgusting, and shows how PiS supporters are willing to indulge in truly despicable behaviour.

I don't like Wojewodzki, but in this case - the fact that a PiS supporter was openly willing to take part in the creation of such a "black list" shows that PiS are already intend on destroying careers and livelihoods upon entering government.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

I almost (almost) hope PiS does win just to see what justifications their followers come up with for their inevitable failure.

There's a beautiful, beautiful thread on the matter from years ago on PF.

On Monday, Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said that "Devils are very easy to identify, the faces can also be seen in the media." [...]

https://polishforums.com/archives/2005-2009/news/medical-workers-strike-orchestrated-11167/

It's almost inevitable that they'll spend the entire time blaming PO while sticking stealth taxation on almost everything to pay for some flagship (unfunded) promises. I'm already expecting fuel taxes to be increased dramatically.

I can understand someone not liking PO policies (I don't much like a bunch of them myself), but there's something .... infantile about those who want a superhero government who'll punish the bad little boys and girls and give treats to the good little boys and girls.

It seems to be some sort of lingering resentment among some sections in society that they never got a share of the spoils, so to speak.

I'm just wondering how hysterical PiS supporters will get if a rainbow coalition puts a technocratic PM in place and leaves PiS in opposition, again.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

As election day approaches all the PO's anti-PiS smear tactics and Kopcz running in circles like a chicken with its head cut off are cutting little ice with voters. PiS support is inching it way up. The glorious 4th Republic is looming!

Polonius, you do realise that the poll posted above...

ZP (United Right -- hip, hip, hurray!) 39% (239 seats)
PO 30
ZL (ex-commies & assorted scum) 7.9 (and out of the running!)
PSL & KORWIN each 5.5

Means that a mere 1.5% swing from PiS to PO as well as a mere 0.1% to ZL would result in a loss for PiS? That's well within the margin of error.

The polls are far, far too close to tell, and more to the point...

FYI PiS is running with Gowin and Ziobro both under separate party logos.

... you honestly think Gowin (with his strong views on economics) is going to support a very socialist PiS? He's going to demand fiscal prudence as part of his support, and PiS will struggle to keep their promises as a result.

Kaczyński having to rely on Ziobro and Gowin sounds like comedy gold.

We all have to suffer the **** since 8 years.

Funnily enough, you were previously using insulting words towards PiS.

https://polishforums.com/archives/2005-2009/news/poland-sex-scandal-self-defence-end-4085/#msg45189

I think that the whole thing could be provoked by "ducks" to make Andrew more submissive.

Heck, while we're at it, another pro-PiS poster on here...

https://polishforums.com/archives/2005-2009/news/new-mayor-warsaw-3795/#msg42204

I like the other guy, shame he was from the socialist party (PiS).

It believes in the strong economic role of central government, high taxation, sucking up to the Silesian miners, as many subsidies for the poor as possible (while taxing them with the other hand).

Funny how these people are now pretending to be huge supporters of PiS.

Travel / I discovered Poland - a nice country [62]

@Atch; also a problem with ... money. Most Poles can only buy crap. I very rarely see people buying for instance eggplant... Most Poles have a very basic and limited diet not only because they don't know better but also (mostly?) because they cannot afford better.

That's not quite true. A lot of the crap they buy is actually very expensive compared to cooking from scratch, especially when a lot of stuff is in season. If you look in Biedronka, they have a fairly big (for Poland) selection of ready meals - none of which are particularly cheap. Pizzas there are 8zl each - I could make the same pizza for 3-4zl. And so on...

Having said that, Poland should completely and totally ban the usage of kids to advertise products on TV, as well as totally banning any sort of "for children" products in shops. Tesco in particular is guilty of this.

Looting presidential palace was which one of those policies?was is sensible one or rational one?me wants to know.

You still haven't provided any evidence for that accusation.

Anyway, given that the current occupant of the Palace is someone that's known to have defrauded the public, shouldn't you be spending your time asking him to do the honourable thing and resign?

The policies of PO and PIS on religion do not differ

Of course they differ. PO want rational, sensible policies towards religion, whereas PiS want a Franco-style social contract where the Church tells them which laws to pass and which laws not to pass.

I am not a fan of PIS or PO but PIS is clearly the lesser evil. PO would sell Polands soul for a few extra Euros.

Whereas PiS will just steal it for the sake of a few Euro.

The stench of sleaze and corruption around PiS is overwhelming.

It's the left wing who are communist, not the right wing.

Keep trying with that line, but we all know that the right wing in Poland is horrifically socialist in reality. Their desire to control everything from the top-down, their obsession with ensuring the "correct" narrative - it's all straight from the PZPR handbook on how to run a good Party.

More like crying, but I don't want to see that either, I have empathy even for people like you.

Crying? The only result that would make me cry would be a majority for PiS. Any other outcome is a victory. PiS+Kukiz would be hysterically amusing - we just need to sit back and watch them destroy themselves.

So leading in the polls is a flaw and fault?

What's wrong with leading in the polls?

The only problem is that they've taken a lot of their policies straight from the PZPR guide to making promises that you don't intend to keep.

How many times have you been told that delph ?

Never. I don't find it difficult to avoid starting topics about Muslims.

To stay on topic we actually need more then one.

It's not about being "on topic", it's about the fact that you've been clearly told that there are better places to discuss Muslims.

If you want to discuss Muslims, do it elsewhere. Most of us actually in Poland are sick to death of hearing about them.

PiS are in proponents of big government and top down policies and appeal to people who want a Big Daddy to save them. I'm in favor long term bottom up change in society where people take responsibility for their lives rather than look to Big Daddy for an allowance and demand transparency in government.

Indeed. The thing with PiS is just how many of their policies involve more, not less regulation. An example - PiS want to make sure that only films that agree with their view of history are funded, with anything deemed "unpatriotic" not qualifying for funding regardless of artistic merit. Which means more garbage like "mgła" and not much else.

Likewise with public TV, where they plan to bring TVP and Polskie Radio directly under Governmental control, with it being used as a mouthpiece for the government - instead of what everyone wants, which is to completely free TVP/Polskie Radio from governmental interference.

Whatever K's father did or didn't is irrelevant now.

I agree, but I have little time for witchhunts and political character assassinations.

Funny that the same guys get furious when Tusk's father service in Whermacht or genocide committed by Michnik-Schechter's bro are mentioned...

Sane people would rather move on than obsess over people's family histories. But if we're going to treat people badly because of their family connections, then it's only fair to demand the truth.

Johnny, I suggest you re-read what the Admin said.

we won't allow more just because some poster is fascinated with the subject (which evokes off-topic / unrelated to Poland posts). They will find better places for that, for example: islamicboard.com or ummah.com/forum/.

Go there and discuss the topic. There really is no need for more than one topic about Muslims in Poland.

So far it's all very stalinesque: guilt by rumour, hearsay, insinuation and innuendo.

The problem as you very well know is that the twins had access to the files in the early 1990's, which means that any evidence will be long gone by now.

Maybe you'll accuse Rajmund of being a Nazi because he studied at a German school during the Hitler occupation?

No, just a traitor that legitimised the occupation.

But totalitarian dictatroshup also need specilaists.

Of course. But anyone that collaborated with the horror of Stalinism deserves to be treated with contempt.

As a former AK member, he was under UB surveillance after the war and after 1956 by the SB, but nevertheless got his degrees and lectured (a professor doesn't choose his audience).

But you do realise that there was no way that an ex-AK man was going to be allowed to obtain degrees and lecture to PZPR members? Why is it that many of his peers ended up being tortured for years in prison, if not executed - and he was a free man?

But he never joined the communist party and was among the first to join Solidarity.

From memory, weren't teachers and lecturers formally linked to the Party through the teaching union?

Many PZPR members also joined Solidarność.

The Admin and mods. The rest of us can just give our opinion.
