Reality,

Some people's reality may revolve round Petru's bloodsucking bankers, the greedy bumpkins of PSL and the Platformer crook & scam gang. Truly a motley collection of poltical misfits!

News / Prediction: Poland to be World Superpower in XXI century [147]

Russians would intervene

You forgot about NATO. Of course, today's NATO may not be tomorrow's NATO. NATO may succumb to "wimpification" and became a shadow of its former self. But new problems may also confront Russia - challenges from China, internal terrorist activity and disgruntled break-away national groups within the RF. Not to mention potential disabilitating natural calamities (meteors, earthquakes, floods, droughts, etc.)

Today Austria and Hungary are only two small countries but once constituted an empire ruling over large swathes of the continent. Poland-Lithuanian was once Europe's largest land empire. There were even Moravian and Bulgarian empires at various points in history. Viewing future perspectives through the prism of "nowness" is usually a mistake that can only lead astray.

stunted government unable to make any decisions or pass any laws.

That's why it's important for PiS to win having a sympathetic president. With Kukiz PiS would have a 52% majority, probably a constitutional majority.

What do you mean by 'luck out'?

If Poland got lucky and the general configuration of things on the continent lined up in a way advantageous to the Polish nation... but I never said super power, but at best a major European power.

However, let's not be ahistorical. In geopolitics most anything can happen. Now Germany is No. 1 but in 10, 20 years, who knows? Only one things is certain: nothing ever stays the same indefinitely.

Genealogy / Skorupodski / Golwick - Were my Polish ancestors Jewish? [9]

WENNER: was believed to derive from the German Wegener (wagon-maker or wheelwright). In Polish Polish it was meaningless and just another name. Why they changed it to Waner is hard to say. Maybe it was actually Wäner which is pronounced in German almost the same as Wenner. Maybe it got misspelt along the way. If they were Jewish they spoke Yiddish and maybe weren't too articulate or literate in Polish.

not a regional power

Super power is quite an exaggeration, but a major European power? Possibly. If Poland lucked out, circumstances were favourable and the right measures were taken - who knows?

Not, of course the small, truncated Poland we know today which has 20% less territory than even the also truncated II RP. (Truncated compared to the IRP that got partitioned in the late 18th century.)

Ukraine would have to play an important role in that development.
Let's say the Donbas area is eventually completely taken over by Russia (either annexed by the RF or as a Kremline-controlled puppet state), Ukraine might be inclined to team up with Poland in some sort of federation. Since Lukashenka isn't eternal, eventually Belarus might also join, possibly even Lithuania, although with the smaller countries there might be problems (fear of losing their cultural identity). A Polish-Ruthenian federation with access to both the Baltic and Black Sea could develop into a power to reckon with. Over Moscow's objections the federation would have to join NATO and the EU. In terms of population it would roughly match Germany. It would have to spend at least 5% on defence and security. If the GDP started inching upward, such a new continental power might be a distinct possibility. Pożyjemy, zobaczymy!

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

converted from Anglicanism

Interesting point. There were indicaitons that JP2 was taking small steps in that direction. He accepted into the RCC a number of married priests of the Utrecht-linked (once regarded as heretical) Polish National Catholic Church based in Scranton, PA without re-ordination. The married Anglicans had to be ordained anew. JP2 also dissolved a seminary in Vienna due to the discovery of homosexual activity amongst the seminarians. But all that was taking place in the twilight of his pontificate, and his successor did not pursue the priestly marriage theme. I wonder if Pope Francis will take it up?

cohen bendit

The Cohen Bandit (misspelling intended) is buddy buddy with his ethnic compatriot Michnik. During the Paris mad-dog rampage of '68 he commuted from Germany to incite even more violence.

scout officials in many cases never reported the incidents to local authorities

This shows that cover-ups are the typical response to such embarrassing situations by not only the RCC. Cover-ups, failure to reprort offences to the police wherever that occurs enables the offender to continue functioning. The boy-buggering homos also don't go broadcasting their offences it all over the place, do they?

Harry the snitch!

Poland does not exist in a vacuum. All the sex-related garbage (perversions, porno, child abuse, etc.) is also seeping across the border, so comparisons are very much in order.

@jon357 You'd better believe it! Few if any organisations or companies come out and proclaim: Hey, our group is riddled with perverts and child molesters. In fact, quite the opposite is true. The cover-up is the typical reaction to such problems. Your "glorious" (?!) country's Lord Janner na przykład.

The Baptist Chruch in America did the same:
salon.com/2013/03/12/evangelical_church_accused_of_ignoring_sexual_abuse_pedophilia_ring_partner

Boy Scouts of America collected data to identify offenders and keep them from re-applying for positions in other communities. But scout officials in many cases never reported the incidents to local authorities while safeguarding them in what they termed "the confidential file."

democraticunderground.com/113723513

Although cover-ups are a widespread practice, strangely enough the Jon & Harry comedy act focuses on mainy a single source: the RCC. Coincidence, horse-blinkeredness, vindictiveness (buggered in the confessional?), pure spite or what?

the RCC has covered up

So you've never heard of any homo paedophiles not linked to the Church? Another of your many obsessions (RC-bashing, micro-chipping, Sunday head count, 14-year-olds marrying)? What about PT instructors, scoutmasters, teachers, doctors, etc.

To balance things out, perhaps you can provide a whole list of homosexuals in casual dress who are paedophiles.

teachers who are especially vulnerable to false allegations....

Not only teachers but also priests. There have been cases of people coming forward (when they got a whiff of the big money swirling about) that claimed a deceased priest had buggered them when they were young. Whether that ilk actually got any bread, I dont' know, but it is symptomatic of the temptation any kind of reparation potential generates.

"good old"

Figure of speech... People say "good ol' USA" even though Britain is much older.
About the Platfusy one could only say the "old, tired and spent Platformers". Next survey and their backing could well be down to 13-14%. By election time the Petru gang may well surpass them.

News / Poland's fight against paedophilia [277]

awful case

The exaggerated, media-propelled notoriety that has created a paedophile = RC clergy association to a large extent has resulted from a red herring invented by groups (like the LGBT) who wanted to take the heat off themselves. And what better way to take revenge on the Church which condemns their sick deviations than by whipping up public ire against it.

It turns out that RC clergy or other clergy for that matter do not have a higher rate of paedophilia convictions than others groups. It also turns out that the 2% homosexuals account for over one-third of all paedophilic assaults on young boys. The anti-RC smoke screen was an excellent way of concealing such unflattering facts from view.

Merged: Kukiz nudges Platformers into 3rd place

The latest poll, the first since the Stonoga afffair and government shake-up, showed PiS in the lead with 30%, Kukiz in 2nd with 24% and PO in 3rd with 19%. Not long ago I had predicted the Platfusy would drop into the teens.

Petru's pro-capitalaist party garnered 7% backing and Miller's ex-commird just made it under the wire with 5%.

You don't need to make a new thread with each new opinion poll

barred from certain professions

Every high health-risk individual is barred from professions where he/she could harm others. Be it a leper, homosexual where the STD rate is very high, tuberculars or others with communicable diseases are not allowed to work in contagious-disease wards or those requiring high sterility like preemie wards. Only LGBT types would start selfishly screaming "DISCRIMINATION" and "HOMOPHOBIA" with total disregard for those they are putting at risk.

Aside from health, a someone with thick grubby fingers will usually not make a good watchmaker or pianist, but that is not discrimination only common sense.

And of course the mainstream PiS-bashing, pro-PO Polish media like Wybiórzca and TVN had nothing to do with it. The venom and vitriol just fell from the sky, innit?

Genealogy / Zawadynski - herb. Rawicz / Rawa and herb. Dolega [26]

Absolutely no insult was intended. I only wondered what the reason for the incongruity might have been. Worth mentioning is the fact that Polish heraldry is more of a whimsical art than an exact science, closer to astrology and alchemy than to astronomy and chemistry. It is based on lore and legend which have been additionally elaborated and embellished over the centuries. Heraldic experts themselves do not always agree on the design and colour scheme of individual coats of arms nor as to which families belonged to which noble clan. Moreover, Old Poland's lack of Royal Office of Heraldry gave rise to false counts and others illegitimately claiming noble status. The post-World War I Polish Constitution of 1921 abolished the nobility as a legally recognised social class and did away with aristocratic titles. Although noble ancestry no longer ensures any titles or privileges, many tradition-minded families, which can legitimately claim their ancestors' gentry membership, continue to cultivate their heritage and fondly display their coats of arms on signet rings, plaques, paintings, stationery, tombstones, etc.

Genealogy / Zawadynski - herb. Rawicz / Rawa and herb. Dolega [26]

Possibly someone led your ancestor astray. Or perhaps he himself "purchased" the certificate to prove his noble ancestry. So many things could have happened. For instance, your ancestor may have wanted to check whether a coa went with his name. He told someone with an armorial that his name was Zawadyński, the person looked down the list and mistakenly (not paying attention, poor eyesight?) gave the Rawicz coa which went with Zawadowski

Nowadays there are online heraldry mills online which come up with a coa for nearly everyone.
Check out: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rawicz_%28herb_szlachecki%29
It lists the Zawodowski surname. My armorial spells it Zawadowski. Which is right? Maybe both. Polish heraldry is a confusing area and many things got misspelt over generations of manual recopying.
