Life / How can Polish immigrants complain about other immigrants? [65]

Tens of thousands of Poles fought for Britain during World War II - my dad was one of them (Drugi Korpus Wojska Polskiego - Polish II Corps).

Now tell me how many of the Poles who moved to the UK since 2004 have joined the British Armed Forces.

I tell you one thing the Indians fought here in Athens as well and they were laughable stock.I mean who could ever be afraid of them?

Your Balkan Power would be useless against the Gurkhas, trust me.

Will British Sikhs and Asians also be able to do it, or how about those bloody commonwealth colonials who used to work in the sandwich bars?

The Gurkhas certainly have more right to live in the UK than recent Polish immigrants do. They've done far more for the UK than most Polish cleaners ever will. And my mum's a cleaner now, so that's not meant to be offensive to cleaners generally ;) But you can't compare fighting for a country to mopping floors or serving coffee.

was that all Poles I met consider mixed Jewish-English areas the best for living.

You've just described me and where I live :) But if my block started to fill up with Somalis or Pakistanis, I'd be out of here faster than you can say lokshen kugel! Some people just don't get along, and that's the way it is.

Jews - tough in price negotiations

If I told you just how good a deal I managed to talk my Jewish landlord and Jewish lettings agency into, you'd be surprised ;) :D

Life / Pictures of Poles [Everyday Life in Poland] [100]

Poland was so remarkable. I've posted a few vacation photos on this thread.

Nice :) I think those of us who live in the UK forget how difficult it must be for American Polonia to visit Poland - we can go there on a coach!!! :) :D lol

Nice pics there, I might one day change my mind and visit Lodz

So it seems like the "Polish Manchester" actually looks like the real thing :)

A few of mine, 2007-2009.

Some people in Wroclaw. They had dared to criticise English women on PF, and had heard that me and Shelley were in town, so they were hiding :D

The day the Polish volleyball champions returned from Turkey:

Plenty of very small Polish people in this photo, lol:

Polish people surrounded by German people (well, it is Gdansk, lol):

USA, Canada / PolAms -- do you regard yourselves only as 'white Americans'? [187]

Unfortunately, over here, we have a lot of people (usually liberal-lefties, naturally) who think that no-one is allowed to call themselves "indigenous British". Although it is unlikely that anyone alive today can claim to be descended from the earliest settlers, it's clear that a group of people eventually came to be regarded as "ethnic Britons" (Scots, English, Welsh), irrespecive of their origins.

There's even evidence that people lived in houses here as long ago as 12500 years ago: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Carr_house

(Far too small for people from the Indian sub-continent to claim that they might have been the original settlers :D )

Of course, as we've discussed elsewhere on this forum, there's a group of people in the UK (see first paragraph above) who love putting down anything English/British, and promote anything non-British as superior, which it often isn't.

Yet, although New Zealand was only settled about 700 years ago, these same people would never have the nerve to go to NZ and tell the Maori that they ought to go back to Eastern Polynesia, "because they aren't indigenous" :D

She's from Texas. Everything's bigger there. Polish meals are too big anyway, so there's no way I could ever finish a Polish-Texan meal! lol

UK, Ireland / Brit Polonia fighting anti-Polish stereotypes [46]

The reasons were that they pretty much blame all the Poles for not helping them in WWII and believe we owe them compensation in the year 2010 for lost property. Jews give Poles a bad name. Ant-Polonism is in their blood.

Speak for yourself! It's not in my blood, never was, and never will be!

Anti-Semitic Poles give Poles a bad name.

And it was the Germans who stole my grandparent's house and shop, not anyone else, so if anyone should be paying compensation, it's the Germans. But most of us realise that this will never happen, so we just get on with life regardless. I don't hate Germans or Germany, btw - I just hate what a certain German regime did to us 70 years ago. Modern Germans aren't responsible, or to blame.

It's as ridiculous for modern Poles to hate Jews, as it would be for Scots to hate Pacific Islanders - where are all these Jews who Poles hate so much? I've been to Poland many times, and the only place I saw any obvious Jews was in Krakow - and the sum total was about 20. If Poles spent as much time on trying to improve their own country as they do on blaming "The Jew" or on going for "piwko z kumplami", then maybe the country wouldn't need EU funding!

USA, Canada / PolAms -- do you regard yourselves only as 'white Americans'? [187]

Look at for instance, the British Polonia from post-WW2. That generation has more or less successfully integrated - and while there's plenty of Polish names about, the grandchildren consider themselves to be British, not Polish.

it would be more correct to say that many of us consider ourselves to be both.

<applauds>

It's about time someone said this.

Yet some of the "real Poles" on here wonder why I'm so critical of so many of their countrymen, and why I'm so defensive of the UK.

The irony is, despite what they think of those of us who were born here, they are still queueing up to get in and join us!

Travel / Fish and Chips in Warsaw [53]

For me 25 PLN is expensive for Polish standards. I am sure for the Brits here this is good value for money

It sounds pretty expensive when you compare it to UK prices, but then everywhere in the UK is nearer to the sea than Warsaw is ;)

This place: homeofthejumbocod.co.uk/#/welcome/4517957101

is effectively my "local" ( even though it's not really that local) and sells the best fish and chips in the world. The fish is at least 12" long, and the portion of chips is huge; I can't finish it. And all this for just 18,31 PLN at today's exchange rate :)

Despite yesterday's sickening "toxic fish" thread, I've not been put off - Yo! Sushi at lunchtime, fish 'n' chips from the above for dinner :D

It's about the general tone of his posts.

Change "Poles" for "blacks", and "jobs" for "women", and you've got Jarnowa :)

Or, to be more accurate... halve Jarnowa's IQ and you've got polesandmops :D

UK, Ireland / Too many Poles in UK? [52]

I bet you're popular with the ladies. What's wrong with holding hands in the street??

we feel we have been invaded, with your polish shops everywhere, sklep sklep all over my city,

You're not really English at all, are you? You're one of these Pakis who tells Poles that they will get firebombed if they try and open a hairdresser or Polish shop because you think it's "your turf" - lmao.

Actually, that's probably why you object to Poles having physical contact in public - "un-Islamic" is it? :p

There are so many errors in this persons posts it is amazing! He is unable to spell in almost every post.

What's even sadder is that he sounds a bit like Jarnowa, but the Belgian has excellent English, whereas this "Englishman" hasn't. :D

Life / POLISH FLAG DAYS...when are they...? [30]

I think it's more accurate to say that only two groups of people really object or get "offended" by the Union Flag/Flag of St George being flown in England:

1. The left-wing PC traitors who would love us to be ruled by another country, and hate everything British, despite being British themselves.

2. A certain group of non-indigenous people, who tend to get referred to as "Asian", but we all know which word describes them more accurately ;) Using this catch-all term is offensive to the vast majority of Asians who really don't give a damn about whether the flag is flown or not.

I've never met anyone Chinese, Filipino, Spanish, Italian, Caribbean, South African, Sikh, Hindu, Jewish, German, Czech, Slovak or indeed Polish who ever objected to our national flags being flown, so who on earth are these people who object? Oh, I've answered that already :)

Language / What do you like in Polish language? [70]

for sure it isn't a gwara śląska :) idę na dwór it is. idę na pole is rather gwara małopolska

zzzz. We've had this argument so many times before. I'm waiting for Seanus to come along and join us ;) (he's always welcome though! :D )

Do you not think it's possible for several regions in a country to use similar dialect words or phrases? People say "manky" round here, but that's also a Birmingham word :)

While I accept that those who say that it's used in Małopolska must be correct (I don't know from experience, and I don't know a single person from Kraków/Małopolska), but have known lots of people from Silesia (górny i dolny) - indeed, much of my family comes from there - and these are the only people I have ever heard using phrases like this.

I even remember a conversation which I was once involved in, between a couple who came from near Katowice, and my girlfriend at the time (who comes from Bydgoszcz). They were explaining to her what a lot of Silesian dialect/language words meant in standard Polish - and idę na pole was one of them. I learnt a lot that day.

However, my stepfather grew up around Bytom, and he used standard Polish and no Ślůnsko godka whatsoever.

And he should also remember that words like "tanie" have to be taken with a pinch of salt in Poland - just like the "Szybka Kolej Miejska" in Warsaw isn't exactly "szybkie" ;)

Life / Things we enjoyed as kids in Poland [140]

I can't speak for Poland, only for the UK.

Unfortunately, during the past 30 years or so, we've had a society which expects freedom and rights, but without responsibility. Victims are now to blame for their misfortune, while the offender is to be pitied and "supported" - because they are a "victim of society" or something.

Examples:

1. If a woman gets raped while wearing sexy clothing, she "encouraged" it, and the judge will sentence accordingly. Whereas in a sensible society, ONLY the rapist would be blamed, as it should be.

2. If you don't put multiple locks/bars/chains etc on your house, then it's your fault you got burgled. Whereas in a sensible society, ONLY the burglar is responsible for the crime.

3. If someone breaks into your house, and you attack them because they won't leave or you feel you are in danger, then YOU go to jail. In a sensible society, there would be an ABSOLUTE right to defend yourself, your family and your property.

But not in PC EUSSR-land, oh no. Here, the criminal is a "victim", who is "oppressed/dispossessed/vulnerable/underprivileged" or whatever other inappropriate word is the PC word-of-the-month, to be applied to the common criminal to justify his crimes.

4. If you do challenge someone because you disagree with their actions (whether it's bad manners or an actual crime) you are very likely to be threatened with a "stabbing-up" or "getting capped". This is why criminal and immoral behaviour goes unchecked, because people know the consequences, and the police and legal system won't back you up - because there are simply too many yogurt-knitting social workers who don't have any idea of what real life is like.

I'm not exactly a supporter of Sharia-style punishments, but we have a legal system which is clearly against the victim, and too much on the side of the criminal.

This is why we "put up with it", because we really don't have much choice. It's quite simply safer to "keep your nose out" than risk being murdered.

Ultimately, lack of discipline in schools and at home is to blame, which was allowed to develop due to over-liberal and PC government policies.

Which brings me right back to my earlier point: everyone knows their "rights" now, but they don't want to take any responsibility for anything. And until (or if) this changes, it won't get any better here.

I'd bet a month's wages that this is one of the main reasons why British people emigrate, and who can blame them?

You may think of yourself as the only challenger to JustysiaS's throne as the queen of PF put-downs, but you're not even a 3rd-rate fstop or noreenb yet, so that sad post count of yours clearly hasn't helped much, has it? :D

David is American.

"Polish-American", I believe. He has a Polish surname.

Decide are you polish or british...

Born here, which means it's not surprising that I prefer the women I see around me every day. But as my family and many of our friends were Polish, I don't consider skinny fake-blonde women to be "egzotyczne" (unlike the English/American guys who can't shut up about them on here!)

Since I'm here I read comments of Amathyst in which she yells at everyone... no she is not polite, additionally she's really irritating

Each to their own, I think she's fine! :D

No dokończ... Śmiało!

And your women are f****g discusting. Fat and rotten teeth.

The ones which turned you down, maybe. It's hardly our fault that the average Pole isn't man enough to handle a woman with a real figure, instead of some skinny villager with no a**!

The difference between Poles and brits are that poles comes where the money is while the brits emigrate from their country cuz it sucks.

Believe it or not, some people leave Poland because they think it's a s***hole as well!

Whereas some Britons do leave here for the money. I could definitely earn a lot more in the USA or Canada, but I like it here :p

The ironic thing is, if I was going to leave, I'd probably go to NZ - which pays less than here, and is actually the most UK-like country which Britons move to. Except for the lack of mosques, obviously... but that's part of the attraction - Britain like it used to be ;)

Yeah sure, Amathyst... you're the best example of english politeness ;D

What would you know?

And you are the best example of Polish... er... what, exactly?

:D

I know I shouldn't laugh, but... pmsl!!! :D

OK Justysia, so maybe no-one does this sort of thing in Poland, and it may be a bit immature, but everyone does this over here at some point in their lives - me included!

Are you going to tell me you never soaked anyone on Śmigus Dyngus? Lighten up a bit! ;)

When we were kids, we used to throw soft fruit at people at bus stops, of course it's wrong, but when you're young, everyone does it at some point ;)

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

so-why english people doesn't like polish - especially polish emigrants in uk. kinda weird as i didn't observe this with reference to other immigrants in uk

It's considered "acceptable" to be prejudiced towards Poles as they are white Europeans. The media loves to encourage these views, but as we have so many PC laws these days, this would never be tolerated towards non-Europeans. There's no way you would read an article which celebrates the fact that Pakis or Africans are "going home" (or encourages them to do so) - the Grauniad-reading yogurt-knitters would be "offended" and have a field day.

However, it's also not really surprising that a lot of English people are fed up of Poles. They have come over in huge numbers during the past six years, and the previous Polish population in the UK of around 250 000 has probably quadrupled since then. During this time, unemployment has risen massively, and it wasn't exactly low in 2004 either. Despite continually rising unemployment, they have continued to come over in huge numbers.

What makes it worse is that the left-wing media still continually goes on about "jobs the Bristish won't do", when we have fewer and few jobs, but more and more applicants. An example here:

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1303444/BT-puts-applicants-hold-24-000-apply-221-trainee-jobs.html

If the leftie media were a bit more (ha!) impartial, they would keep us informed of the relentless non-EU immigration we have to put up with, which causes far more problems; in which case, the Poles would probably be let off the hook. But, as I mentioned above, this is never going to happen, as it's "not PC" to do so. So the Poles get all the cr*p from the media, and therefore some Britons believe that Poles are the biggest (or even only) threat to them.

Let me just mention that we as a community were not hated until a few years ago - few other immigrant groups have assimilated as well as we had in the past, and few people could honestly recognise "a Pole" until recently.

Unfortunately, it's also a different generation coming over now, who are not escaping oppression or war, and are purely economic migrants. Which means that they have nothing to be "grateful" to Britain for, and many have a smug "the UK owes us a living" attitude, which p*sses hard-working Britons off - and with good reason!

I see this from both sides - as someone who was born in England, but also came from a Polish family. Yet even I get fed up of Polish immigrants - partly for the reasons above, but also because many seem to think that because I speak the language, it's OK for them to slag off the UK and English people (especially English women), and are stupid enough to think that I will agree! And as for the ones who think I'm going to help them get as many benefits as they can, so they don't need to work - I'd have them back on the coach tonight!

Quite simply, the main problem is that far too many came over too quickly. If only 50 000 had been allowed in since 2004, I don't think anyone would have even though that Poles were a "problem" at all.

But it's a bit like with Brits abroad: they even manage to hate the native ppl of the country they're visiting :)

Some Britons. I love visiting other countries, and I certainly do not make a point of looking for "other British people" when I'm abroad either. Furthermore, I've never visited another country without making an effort to get by in at least one official language. I know you didn't really mean that all Britons are like this, but please try not to generalise. Believe it or not, some of us are actually quite cultured and respectful over here.
