Love / POLISH GIRLFRIEND WONT PAY HER WAY [127]

why would the man have to keep paying for everything?

men make more money, so they have to pay. I would never go out with a guy who is cheap.

Besides, some men like to pay- simple. Obviously some of the guys here are cheap buggers and they whine - what a shame;) Boring.....

Life / Articles of Jamie Stokes concerning an ex-pats life in Poland [10]

Let me know if this stuff is familiar to you.

of course it is. He has really hit the nail on the head in many cases. I agree with the rental situation and the church goers in the villages. That made me laugh.

His style of writing - exaggeration - quickly becomes more boring than funny

that is his style and I disagree that it is boring. Just his sense of humour which probably went over your head a bit;)

Work / How To Study In Poland and stay with my GF? Inability to move to Poland looks stupid. [60]

agree, Midas is just spamming as usual.

to OP- look for opportunities and don't listen to anybody who is judging you on this thread- it is your life. Good luck:). It is a free world although some want to tell you that it isn't.

There must be some private money for you to study- you have to find the source and if you are really looking you will find it.

Travel / Szczecin from Warsaw Airport by Rail or cab? [10]

(I think Warsaw Central)

EIC train dep 16:50 arrival in Szczecin 22:33 pm - the shortest trip (5.5 hours)
cost 120 PLN or so. There are other cheaper trains, but they are much slower and I would not recommend them.

I travelled on this one a couple of times and it is the best time wise and comfort wise. Good luck:)

there are RE trains, but they are hit or miss.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

I have shined enough on PF, haven't I;) Frankly too tired to vent all the frustrating moments- still think that Poland is one of the good countries to live:), but I agree with Avalon. In a long run is it not that easy to tolerate so many things he mentions, after all the devil is in the details:).

As for the Blame game I know it too well from my family and it is frustrating- use to take it seriously, but I was driving myself crazy. Must be a Polish thing to blame it on somebody else- not everyone is like that here, but I try to stay away from people like that if I can. Sometimes I have to deal with that crap, but when I try to explain what they are doing, they become even more defensive - what is the point- choose your battles wisely:)

I just do my thing now and try to get the most out of life.

One of my students asked me why I returned from Canada and I said: wszedzie dobrze, gdzie nas nie ma. The grass is always greener ......

It is good to vent though:)

Work / Working as an English teacher in Koszalin - Does anyone have any experience of the place? [14]

just check Wiki, although I know the city quite well, but have not been there for the last 10 years.

Mielno train ride - 15 minutes every hour.
Koszalin is on the train route to the Tri - City, around 3 hour ride.

Overall not too small and not too big, perfect I would think since he commuting to work should not be a problem.

As for entertainment I am sure there are some pubs and galleries, there is a theatre (if you are into that),lots of greenery, parks it depends what you are into.

You will get to know people. What about the school you are going to work? I am sure they will give you some assistance:) and a tour.

Good luck:)

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

the truth of the matter is:

most of the world was always multi with all the migration for centuries and free movement. Once the political and the economic borders have been established in the modern Western world- the politics of multiculturalism has emerged to serve the agenda of politicians and whoever benefits from it:).

OP is just another victim of that propaganda.

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

Avoiding responsibility? Maybe it's due to a lack of delineation of duties? Any examples of how they cover their own butts?

well, the student calls in and cancels the lesson with me, I don't get the message, when I ask who got the message, all the people receiving those calls say: No, it was not me. I know it was one of them. So this is an example of avoiding responsibility and covering their butts. If one admitted making a mistake, I would have no problem with that, now I do and I know who didn't pass the message. That is just one example. This is common enough in social and professional circles to be a problem. I have numerous examples and I think this is childish.

History / An American studying medicine in the PRL 1978-1985: my story [142]

Lance's idealism got him finally into a trouble he couldn't talk his way out of. During the student Solidarity movement
Lance joined the local UJ chapter, demonstrated and was summarily deported. He finished his medical studies in France!

maybe he worked for the government of the USA. Interesting stories nevertheless, thanks for sharing.

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

What do you mean by socialism practices

avoiding the responsibility at work, paper pushing, covering their own ass- not thinking to better the company practice among other things. I have a co-worker who behaves as if she still lives in the communist times. Her work does not contribute to anything which would benefit me, actually the opposite - she is a source of stress, yet she does her job well according the the requirements of the company and she knows people, so..........:(. She has that job because she knows people.

So you as part-Polish and living in Poland accept that some Poles have had enough of one another?

Of course:D I hear it every day from Poles, so don't pay attention to the posters who don't live the Polish reality.

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

I am in Poland now:) and I am familiar with what you have mentioned. It seems that even younger generation has picked up the bad working habits, often smelling of socialism practices. Nothing professional about it. If they can get away with it they will.

On the other hand I have met many people who are very professional, so......

She has also had enough of her boss who breaks the rules when it suits him. He is off on holiday again when he is not entitled to and she has all the more work as a result. She paints quite a different picture from you.

sounds similar to my boss. In the past I would pick her work, but now I just do mine, so looks like I will be looking for another job.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

oh come on.

hey, the weather in Szczecin is still nice:) and I hope you are having fun in the US:D.

She misses Tim Hortons. I know it.

Actually I do miss the watery American coffee, the coffee they make here is too thick. Luckily I have my French press:) How have you been?

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

has been 11 months in Poland and have not missed Canada once:).

Well, maybe I miss the drumming fest in TO, or the biking trails I am so used to, but on the whole, I am pretty comfy here. I had a wonderful summer and lots and lots of rest. The seaside is great, the summer has been pretty good wether wise.

Polish flowers and other things from dzialki.

I do my shopping just around the corner and there are always some pensioners making extra money selling fresh veggies and flowers from their "dzialki". I don't mind buying stuff from them and the flowers are always nice!!!!!!

Until next time - I am busy at the moment - just purchased a large jar of honey from a pensioner. Mushroom time ahead!!!!!!

I got a new bike (made in Germany), which my friend drugged all the way from the Gemany. I checked the prices in Poland and I settled for a German one. That way I had a friend to visit me and got the bike which was actually bough, not stollen in Germany.

Of course I have to store my bike in my flat, but this way I can develop some muscles carrying it up and down all the way to the 3rd floor.

Until next time people.

UK, Ireland / I need help!! (problems with my Polish coworkers) [41]

strange, but I never did;).

Anyways, women are all the same everywhere.

As someone suggested, use the same language as they do- if they bang the pots, do that too, if they don't step away- do the same - but you are way too nice - so I am not sure you can handle them.

another solution: wait for the interview and don't be afraid that you will loose your job - if Anna is evil - then she might have done this to another worker. Just be patient and see how things will develop.

Don't be too nice to them, they don't deserve it.

useful vacab: kurwa mac;)

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

Being seriouse, there is much tolerance for someone's bad mood so the people feel free to announce their bad day to everyone around.

that seems to be the key IMO, but in other countries people smile and stub you in the back very often, so I rather have a bad Pole, who says he/she doesn't like me then a passive - aggressive person.

Love / Polish women USED TO BE much more attractive: [162]

not that I like the topic, since it is about women and how they neglect themselves and I am not going to comment on that.

I am on vacation at the moment, have time to make my own meals and I watch what I eat (cutt down on sweets and carbs), however I eat what I want. I am shedding pounds like crazy. Plus- no stress and THAT is a big factor.

So activity- just bought a bike.
Healthy food.

lack of stress, which not many people mention is the factor in keeping in shape.

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

So it's goodbye from me (and it's goodbye from Ed)

you said that before, however I know where you are coming from. I totally lost an interest in posting on PF. It took me years, but without analyzing it too much and blaming anybody in particular I find that there are many better places to be at the moment:).

News / EU presidency to cost Poland 110 million euro [33]

why Szczecin?

why not? I don't know:)

Szczecin as a city wanted to celebrate that date and it is a good city self- promotion since the celebration was broadcasted on national TV. Energy company was one of the sponsors.

Aphro has more political influence than we will ever know :)

yes;)

Local government wants to promote the city of Szczecin, because it is a great city and it has not been developing as fast as the other major cities in Poland.

@Rybnik
local government in Poland is pretty strong. During your visit to Poland you will find out that Poland has changed a LOT.
