News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

Ask the mohair beret brigade :) For me, it doesn't really matter. As long as some acknowledgment is provided. We just need to wait another 70 years before being told Putin did it ;)

Theft is theft, pgtx. They were both memorial symbols/signs.

Life / Polish are some of the best educated in the world [35]

Multiple college degrees means avoiding the real world. 1 or 2 degrees are enough to learn what you need to. The rest can be through home study or other options.

First, the 'arbeit mach frei' sign. Now the cross. What next?

Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Pilsudski, Copernicus, Chopin

PiƂsudski wanted to sway the Lithuanian government as he himself saw himself as being of Lithuanian stock. Widely regarded as Polish but, then again, widely regarded isn't definitive.

Copernicus? Tough one! He wanted to defend Olsztyn castle against the Knights of the Teutonic Order (Germanic) so that tells you a thing or two. Also, his father was Polish.

Chopin? French influence very much overplayed.

Hehehe, JK was taken down before he could get ahead of steam :) It's all about timing :)

UK, Ireland / The number of Anti-English Poles... [228]

I'm sure he'd become an honorary member of the dresiarze/chav brigade here :) They've found their new leader :)

I see quite a few Poles sporting English shirts here. They just like the big names, I guess. England will do the same in Euro 2012. A great qualifying campaign but struggle come the main event. Not so many shirts on display then.

Real Estate / Is this a bad time to buy an apartment in Poland? [142]

Be mindful of landlords here. I've heard some stories where they blame the tenant for natural wear+tear or sth that heavy rain caused (bubbles on the walls). My friend was asked to pay 8000PLN to get rid of mould and he told his landlord where to go. Lucky for him, he was already moving out.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

It happens anywhere that you lose your role in society, or the role as you see it. Look at the boxers Ricky Hatton and Frank Bruno. They went doolalley because they lost their station and calling. JK is moving in the same direction. What is he hoping to prove with his latest antics?

That's right, he was Jewish, wasn't he? ;0 ;) Until some Polish roots are established, he'll be forever shunned ;)

Is this still an ongoing saga? I haven't heard about it in the news. It's just so funny for me to see people passing themselves off as Christian when Christ himself would not go near them with a bargepole.

Genealogy / Labia: IS THIS A COMMON GIRLS NAME...in Poland..? [19]

Mods, I have answered the question more than others here. Please restore what I wrote as it was relevant. I have taught many students in 6 years and none of them were called Labia.

I see the Mods are in a flap about labia.

It's not a common name in Poland, no.

He'd have to perform some miracles for the crowd, just to be sure that they knew it was him :)

I'm just waiting for Jesus to walk across and take it away. Oh, that's right, even Jesus would need to go through the bureaucracy to get a confiscation order here.

Life / The "Rudification" Of Society - Is This Happening In Poland As Well? [146]

I think that he remembered what America was all about, freedom of speech. He pushed the boundaries on that one sometimes but I'm not conservative so he was well within the lines as far as I'm concerned. He was just zany at times, talking about cheese hats or sth like that. A positive form of wacky, more for those that wake&bake.

News / Polish leader urges EU to keep generous aid funds [32]

Debts debts debts! Why analyse deeper when we all know the repercussions that lie in waiting? :( Poles, wake up! There's no such thing as a free meal and quit trying to see it as charity. Modern day Germany has more than covered the tab and excessive payouts won't help either in the long-run.

Life / The "Rudification" Of Society - Is This Happening In Poland As Well? [146]

Yeah, there have been a few cross jokes by the likes of Dennis Leary and Bill Hicks.

Back to rudification, I was appalled at a shop assistant who left me standing while dithering around chatting to her colleagues. I wouldn't have minded so much but there were around 30 wasps flying around in manic fashion. I don't mind them that much but when they are all around you, it's not so good. They were attracted by the sugary donuts and pizzas. It was like she saw that I was uncomfortable and just decided to take no action. She saw I was peeved at her as I usually get on with that particular server.

UK, Ireland / Polish question: what's with the Germans, Brits? Foreign groups in Great Britain. [46]

I was amazed in Berlin at how many grubaski there were. It is a centre of commerce but there were meat stands everywhere. They weren't short of options either. I used to like that stuff as a kid when I didn't gain weight and my metabolism was better. Nowadays, I rarely venture from salads but there are lapses :)

UK, Ireland / Polish question: what's with the Germans, Brits? Foreign groups in Great Britain. [46]

I lived in Scotland for 24 years and Germans were never an issue. I studied with a few Germans during my postgrad and some were nice, some weren't. There was never a need to analyse them as they were so few.

Let's not sidetrack this one, lads. I said it elsewhere that Germans love the Highlands. Much money comes from them. They behave themselves and seem to like the fleisch (meat) on offer. Boy, German tourists are often overweight ;)

Travel / A video I'd like to share: Zakopane, 8-hour Hike [VIDEO] [26]

Good stuff, Sir. Squeezing in the ubiquitous mountaineers' cheese, oscypek :) Berries, nice one! There's nothing like a flourishing harvest of berries. Back in Scotland, my dogs used to eat them directly from the bushes. Quite the sustenance tool when you are so high up.

We need more material like this on PF. A nice touch indeed, Rexio :) Californians tend to be cool and have a lust for life.

No rudification needed. Already very rudified ;) ;) Nah, you just need to connect with some people and they'll connect with you, hopefully. Some old cnuts here are beyond hope. Japanese and Polish old people would get on like a house on fire.
